Frequently Asked Questions - 57005 Klein Tools

How do I set the torque on the Klein 57005?
Unlock the grip lock by turning it to the right. Adjust the grip to the desired torque setting using the micrometer markings. Then turn the grip lock to the left to lock the grip.
What does the release feel like when the set torque is reached?
When the applied torque equals the setting, the wrench releases automatically through an approximately 10° arc. This break-away is distinctly felt and heard, signaling completion.
Can I use this torque wrench to loosen fasteners?
Yes, you can loosen fasteners as long as the rated capacity is not exceeded. However, the torque limiting mechanism works only in the right-hand (tightening) direction.
How do I know which socket or adaptor to use?
The wrench has a square drive tang (typically 3/8-inch for model 57005). Install a socket or adaptor that matches the drive size and is suitable for the fastener.
What should I do if the wrench does not click or release?
First, ensure the grip lock is fully engaged. If the issue persists, the wrench may need calibration or repair. Contact Klein Tools customer service at 800-553-4676 for assistance.
How should I store the Klein 57005 torque wrench?
Store the wrench in a clean, dry place. After use, set the torque to its lowest setting to relieve spring tension and extend service life.
Can I calibrate the torque wrench myself?
Klein recommends returning the wrench to the factory for any repair or adjustment. The factory has a well-equipped repair department to restore it to 'like new' condition for a nominal charge.
What is the torque range of the 57005?
The manual does not specify exact range for model 57005, but typical torque wrenches in this series cover moderate torque values for screwdriver applications (e.g., 20-150 in-lb). Check the markings on your wrench for the specific range.
How do I clean and maintain the torque wrench?
Wipe the wrench with a dry cloth to remove dirt and oil. Avoid using solvents or abrasive cleaners. Periodically check for wear and ensure the locking mechanism functions smoothly.
Is the Klein 57005 suitable for professional use?
Yes, it is a precision tool designed for dependable service. It is factory tested and inspected, making it suitable for professional applications where accurate torque is required.

Adjustable Torque Wrenches

Klein Cat. Nos. 57000, 57005 and 57010

Description

This torque wrench is a precision torque limiting tool. It was thoroughly tested and inspected before it left the factory and with proper care, will give years of dependable service. The wrench consists of a steel case enclosing a precision power spring, a torque signaling mechanism, a ratchet drive tang at the head of the case, and an adjustable hand grip with a locking device at the other end. The case and grip have calibration markings that are read in the same way as a micrometer.

Operation

Install a socket or adaptor on square drive. Unlock grip lock by turning to the right, and adjust grip to desired torque setting. Turn grip lock to the left to lock grip. With wrench installed on fastener, apply a steady pressure on the grip.

Note: Wrench will limit torque in the right hand direction only, but can be used to loosen fastener if the rated capacity is not exceeded.

When torque applied equals the setting on the grip, the wrench will automatically release through approximately a 10^ arc. This release, or break-away, can be distinctly felt and heard by the operator and signals that the operation is complete. Upon release of pressure on the grip, the wrench resets itself and is ready for the next operation.

Repair Service

If repair or adjustment becomes necessary, it is recommended that the wrench be returned to the factory. A well equipped repair department is maintained where, for a nominal charge, the wrench will be restored to "like new" condition.
