Frequently Asked Questions - Digitstat+C RF Drayton

How do I set the required temperature on the Digitstat+C RF?
Turn the dial clockwise to increase or anticlockwise to decrease. One click changes the temperature by 5°C. The display shows 'SET' and the setpoint while adjusting. After a few seconds, it returns to normal operation.
What do the red and green LEDs on the receiver (SCR) indicate?
Green LED: on when there is a call for heat. Red LED: flashes for about 7 seconds every 5 minutes to indicate a radio signal is being received. If the red LED stays on continuously, it means no signal or low battery.
How do I replace the batteries in the thermostat?
When the battery symbol flashes (approx. 30 days remaining), replace with 2 x AA 1.5V alkaline batteries. Pinch the tabs on the battery compartment and pull downwards to remove. Insert new batteries ensuring correct polarity, then push compartment back into place.
The display shows 'E2'. What does that mean?
'E2' indicates a fault: the external temperature sensor may have failed, the ambient temperature is outside the operating range, or the external sensor is wired incorrectly. Check connections and replace sensor if necessary.
How do I commission the Digitstat+C RF system?
First, ensure power is off. Fit the receiver (SCR) and wire it. Temporarily power on the SCR. Push and hold the 'overide' button once, then press and hold the two buttons simultaneously (the red LED will flash). Insert batteries into the transmitter within 1 metre of the receiver. The red LED should flash for 7 seconds and then go out. Check that the system responds by adjusting the setpoint.
What should I do if the red LED on the receiver stays on continuously?
This means the receiver is not receiving a reliable radio signal. First, check battery voltage in the transmitter. If low, replace batteries. Then try repositioning the transmitter closer or away from metal objects. You can also re-commission by removing and reinserting batteries. If the issue persists, consult a qualified engineer.
How do I adjust the minimum and maximum temperature limits?
Press and hold the 'Set' button for 5-10 seconds to enter the User menu. Rotate the dial to see 'Hi' (max) or 'Lo' (min). Press 'Set' again to edit, turn the dial to adjust (min: 40°C, max: up to 75°C), then press 'Set' to confirm. Wait 1 minute or press 'Set' for 5 seconds to exit.
What is the recommended cylinder thermostat setting for energy efficiency?
Set the cylinder thermostat between 60°C and 65°C. This temperature is high enough to kill harmful bacteria but avoids wasted energy. Ensure the boiler thermostat is set higher than the cylinder thermostat.
Can I use this thermostat for multi-zone heating systems?
Yes, for multi-zone installations each Digitstat+C RF must be commissioned exclusively with its corresponding receiver by pairing them one at a time. Ensure the power is off to other receivers while commissioning to avoid interference.
How do I perform a manual override of the heating?
On the receiver (SCR), press the 'OVERIDE' button once. The green LED will come on, forcing heating on. Press again to return to automatic operation. The red LED will stay on until a satisfactory signal is restored.

Check the Signal Strength from that location. To do this, remove the batteries, press and hold the set button whilst refitting the battery, keep the set button held and after a few seconds the display will show VF which indicates that the Distnet-CRF is continuously seeking an OFF signal to view the SCR recovery. Leave the Distnet-CRF in position and return to view the SCR. If the red LED is community flashing, this indicates a good signal. If the red LED is still flashing, this indicates a poor signal and you need to reposition the Distnet-CRF and the red LED is flashing.

'Alcan the signal strength has been confirmed remove the batteries to cover the wire and follow the installation instruction.

Before Installation

If you do not have the knowledge to install the thermostat safely then you must arrange for a competent electrician to install it for you. Wiring must confirm to the current IIE regulators.

Prior to commencing the installation you must ensure the mains supply is switched off.

What is a cylinder thermostat?

an explanation for Householders

A cylinder thermostat switches on and off the heat supply from the boiler to the hot-water cylinder. It works by sensing the temperature of the water inside the cylinder, switching on the water heating when the temperature falls below the thermostat setting, and switching it off once this set temperature has been reached.

Turning a cylinder thermostat to a higher setting will not make the water heat up any faster. How quickly the water heats up depends on the design of the heating system, for example, the size of boiler and the heat exchanger inside the cylinder.

The water heating will not work if a time switch or programmer has switched it off. And the cylinder thermostat will not always switch the heater off, because the heater sometimes needs to heat the radiators.

Cylinder thermostats are usually fitted between one quarter and one third of the way up the cylinder. The cylinder thermostat will have a temperature scale marked on it, and it should be set at between 60°C and 65°C, then left to do its job. This temperature is high enough to kill off harmful bacteria in the water, but rising the temperature of the stored hot water any higher will result in wasted energy and increase the risk of wading.

If you have a boiler control thermostat, it should always be set to a higher temperature than that of the cylinder thermostat. In most boilers, a single boiler thermostat controls the temperature of water sent to both the cylinder and radiators, although in some there are two separate boiler thermostats.
