Frequently Asked Questions - RF-G1179 Rocketfish

What is the RF-G1179 used for?
The RF-G1179 is a bi-directional mini drop amplifier designed to boost cable TV signals, supporting digital cable, pay-per-view, and cable modems. It works with indoor/outdoor antennas.
What frequency ranges does it support?
It supports 5-42 MHz for the return path and 54-1000 MHz for the forward path, covering standard cable TV and modem frequencies.
How many devices can I connect?
The amplifier has 4 output ports, allowing connection of up to four TVs, cable boxes, or other devices.
Does it require an external power source?
It can be powered via the included AC adapter (120V ~ 60Hz/12V DC) or through DC injection from a compatible cable component (coaxial cable). If your component does not provide DC, use the AC adapter.
How do I install the amplifier?
Connect a coaxial cable from the wall jack to the INPUT port. Then connect another cable from the OUT 1/PWR IN port to your TV or cable box. Additional devices can be connected to OUT2, OUT3, and OUT4. Finally, plug in the AC adapter if needed.
What type of coaxial cable should I use?
Use standard 75 ohm coaxial cable with F-type connectors, which is typical for cable TV and antenna systems.
Can I use this amplifier outdoors?
Yes, it is suitable for outdoor use with an antenna, but it should be protected from direct moisture. The Quick Setup Guide does not specify an outdoor rating, so ensure proper weatherproofing if used outside.
What does the LED indicator mean?
The LED power on indicator lights up when the amplifier is receiving power, either from the AC adapter or via DC over coax.
What is the warranty period?
The RF-G1179 comes with a one-year limited warranty. For details, visit www.rocketfishproducts.com or call 1-800-620-2790.
Can it amplify both TV and internet signals?
Yes, its bi-directional design works with cable modems and digital cable, as it supports the return path (5-42 MHz) needed for internet and interactive services.
