What type of cookware should I use with the Salton HP-20C?

Any flat-bottomed pot or pan that is safe for conventional electric stoves can be used. For best heat transfer, use cookware with a solid, perfectly flat bottom, preferably made from solid aluminum or with an encapsulated aluminum base.

Can I use an extension cord with this portable range?

Yes, but with caution. If used, the extension cord must be a grounded 3-wire cord with an electrical rating at least as high as the appliance. Arrange the cord so it does not drape over counters or where children can pull on it.

How do I clean the Salton HP-20C?

Unplug the unit and allow it to cool completely. Wipe the exterior and drip pan with a cloth or sponge dampened in warm soapy water. Raise the element slightly to clean the drip pan. Never use abrasive cleansers or immerse the unit in water.

What does the indicator light mean?

The indicator light glows when the burner is heating and cycles on and off as the selected temperature is automatically maintained. It does not indicate that the burner is on at full power continuously.

Can I leave the unit unattended while in use?

No, never leave the appliance unattended while it is operating. Always turn the knobs to 'Off' and unplug when not in use.

What should I do if the unit stops working?

First, check that it is plugged into a working 120V outlet and that the knobs are turned on. If it still does not work, do not attempt to repair yourself. Contact Salton customer service for examination, repair, or adjustment under warranty.

Is the Salton HP-20C safe to use near children?

Close supervision is necessary when used by or near children. The appliance gets hot during use, so keep children away and never allow them to operate it.

Can I use this range outdoors?

No, this appliance is for household use only and should not be used outdoors. It is designed for indoor use on a smooth, dry, flat surface.

What is the warranty period and how do I claim it?

Salton warrants the HP-20C for one year from date of purchase against defects in material and workmanship. Return the product to the original place of purchase or contact Salton Canada with proof of purchase for repair or replacement.

Can I preheat the cooking range before placing cookware?

No, do not preheat the element before placing filled cookware on it. Place the pot or pan on the burner first, then turn the knob to the desired setting.

GROUNDED PLUG

To reduce the risk of electric shock this appliance has a grounded plug. (2 blades and 1 pin) If the plug does not fit fully into the electrical outlet contact a qualified electrician. Do not modify the plug in any way or use an adaptor.

HOW TO USE YOUR SALTON PORTABLE COOKING RANGE

Any flat-bottomed pot or container that can be used on a conventional electric stove element can also be used on the Salton Portable Cooking Range. For maximum heat transfer, cookware that has a solid perfectly flat bottom is recommended. Cookware made from solid aluminum or some other material with an encapsulated aluminum base will provide the best results. Any cookware can be used to reheat but if maximum energy is required, such as boiling water, please use the recommended cookware.

1. Place the Portable Cooking Range onto a smooth, dry, flat surface. Be sure that the Knobs are in the 'Off' position. Plug into any 120 Volt A.C. outlet.
2. Place filled cookware on the element. Note: Do not preheat before using.
3. Turn Knob clockwise to desired setting. Each element is equipped with it's own 'On/Off' temperature Control Knob and Indicator Light. The Indicator Light will glow and go 'on' and 'off' as the selected temperature is automatically maintained.

CARE AND CLEANING

1. Unplug unit and allow to cool.
2. Both the outside of the unit and the drip pan should be cleaned with a cloth or sponge dampened in warm soapy water. Clean the drip pan by raising the element slightly. NEVER USE ABRASIVE CLEANSERS.
3. NEVER IMMERSE THIS UNIT IN WATER.

A short supply cord is provided to reduce the hazards of becoming entangled in or tripping over a long cord. Extension cords may be used if care is exercised in their use. If an extension cord is used, the marked electrical rating of the detachable power-supply cord or extension cord should be at least as great as the electrical rating of the appliance. If the appliance is of the grounded type, the extension cord should be a grounded 3-wire cord. The extension cord should be arranged so that it will not drape over the counter top or table top, where it can be pulled on by children or tripped over.

LIMITED WARRANTY

Salton Canada warrants that this appliance shall be free from defects in material and workmanship for a period of one year from the date of purchase. During this ‘in-warranty’ period, defective products will be repaired or replaced at the discretion of the retailer and/or Salton Canada. A defective product should be returned to the original place of purchase within the retailer’s stipulated return/exchange period*. If you do not wish or are unable to have a defective product replaced under warranty by the retailer, Salton Canada will repair or replace the defective product without charge. This warranty covers normal domestic usage and does not cover damage which occurs in shipment or failure which results from alteration, accident, misuse, abuse, glass breakage, neglect, commercial use or improper maintenance.
