Frequently Asked Questions - 5329 Taylor

How do I install the Taylor 5329 thermometer?
Mount the thermometer on a north-facing window to avoid direct sunlight. Use the template guide to position screws, then hang using keyhole slots. Ensure 12 inches of tubing is exposed to outside air and the bulb is shielded from sunlight.
What temperature range does the 5329 measure?
It measures both indoor and outdoor temperatures from -50°F to 120°F (-45°C to 50°C).
Can the 5329 measure outdoor humidity?
No, it only measures indoor humidity within a range of 10% to 80%.
What should I do if the liquid column is separated?
Hold the thermometer with the coil supported and tap the edge lightly against your palm until the column reunites. This is normal for Permacolor® liquid.
Does the thermometer need batteries?
No, it is a mechanical liquid-filled thermometer and does not require batteries.
How do I clean the Taylor 5329?
Wipe the exterior with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using water or cleaning solutions to prevent damage.
Why is my thermometer reading inaccurately?
Check if the liquid column is separated (see FAQ above), ensure the bulb is not in direct sunlight, and verify that exactly 12 inches of tubing is exposed to outdoor temperature.
Can I mount the thermometer on any window?
Avoid south-facing windows or locations near heat sources, air conditioners, or large bodies of water. A north-facing window is best for accurate true air temperature.
What is the warranty on the Taylor 5329?
It comes with a one-year limited warranty from Taylor Precision Products.
How do I cut the tubing if it's too long?
Do not cut or sharply bend the tubing, as it is liquid-filled. Instead, route the excess tubing along the window casing, avoiding kinks. For accuracy, exactly 12 inches must be exposed to the outside.

Taylor 5329 - 2

Do not mount in direct sunlight, near a heat source, or near a large body of water as these situations could affect the proper air temperature reading. Ultraviolet light from sunlight can prematurely weather the product.

MOUNTING INSTRUCTIONS:

Choose a window near which the thermometer is to be installed, and where the bulb will be shielded from the sun's rays. (North side is preferable for true air temperature readings).

The tubing which connects the bulb to the outdoor scale is liquid filled. Do not cut, disconnect or sharply bend in a manner which may restrict the flow of liquid. Make certain location chosen will permit ample tubing to run along the window casing and over the frame as illustrated (Fig. 1). For maximum accuracy, exactly 12" (30.5cm) of tubing should be exposed to the outside temperature.

Use the template guide at right to locate position for mounting screws. Hold template against wall at location selected for thermometer. Punch through cardboard at both dots until heads are about 1/8" (2.8mm) from surface. Hang thermometer by means of keyhole slots in backplate.

Form tubing over window casing as illustrated in Fig. 1, avoiding sharp bending. Select either an upper or lower corner. Closing of the window must not crush the tubing; if sufficient clearance does not exist, a small notch or groove should be made with saw or file to provide for this. The same provision for clearance should be made in storm sash of either permanent or removable type.

Using small screws, fasten outside bulb bracket and insert bulb.

SEPARATED FLUID:

Under normal shipping conditions, the Permacolor® liquid in this thermometer may become separated. When this occurs, the thermometer will not read accurately. Should one of the tubes read substantially lower than the other, it may be due to the fact that the liquid has become separated, and is at the extreme top of the tube. Such separation does not represent defect or damage. The column may be reunited as follows:

  1. Hold thermometer as shown in Fig. 2, supporting the coil of tubing
  2. Tap edge of thermometer lightly against palm of other hand
  3. Continue to tap lightly until column is reunited
