Frequently Asked Questions - Kilobyte Caroline

What power supply does the Kilobyte use?
The Kilobyte requires a 9V DC center-negative power supply with at least 50 mA current capability. A 9V battery can also be used for standard operation.
How do I adjust the delay controls?
The pedal has three knobs: Volume (output level), Repeats (feedback amount), and Time (delay time). A toggle switch selects between normal delay and self-oscillation mode.
Is the Kilobyte true bypass?
Yes, the Kilobyte features true bypass switching, ensuring your guitar signal remains unaffected when the pedal is off.
Does the Kilobyte have an internal expression pedal input?
No, the Kilobyte does not have an expression pedal input. It is designed as a standalone delay pedal with manual controls.
Can I use the Kilobyte with a bass guitar?
Yes, the Kilobyte works well with bass guitars as well as electric guitars. Its frequency response is suitable for low-end instruments.
What is the self-oscillation mode?
When the toggle switch is in the up position, the pedal enters self-oscillation mode, allowing controlled feedback and infinite repeats for ambient effects.
How do I clean the Kilobyte pedal?
Use a dry, lint-free cloth to wipe the enclosure. Avoid liquid cleaners or abrasives that may damage the finish.
What type of warranty does Caroline offer?
Caroline provides a limited lifetime warranty to the original owner against defects in materials and workmanship. Proof of purchase is required.
Is the Kilobyte analog or digital?
The Kilobyte is an analog delay pedal using bucket brigade (BBD) chips, known for warm, lo-fi repeats with a distinctive character.
Can the Kilobyte be used with a daisy chain power supply?
Yes, as long as the total current draw of all pedals does not exceed the supply's rating. The Kilobyte draws ~50 mA, so it is compatible with most daisy chain setups.

USER MANUAL Kilobyte Caroline

ATTACK adjusts the gain in the repeater preamp, allowing you to boost or overdrive the echoes. CLOCK sets the amount of delay time. SUM is the number of repeats; set this high and this pedal can run away and self oscillate. LEVEL is the overall volume of the repeats relative to your original signal. MODULATION controls a gentle amount of pitch shifting in the repeats. It was designed for us by our friend Jack DeVille at Mr. Black Pedals.
Holding down the HAVOC footswitch will allow the pedal to run away in a focused, less 'woofy' manner than simply turning up SUM. Releasing it will return to the level set by the SUM control.

We're making a different kind of delay here, folks! If you're reading this, you must be getting ready to party like it's 1983. We've kept your original signal path analog and pure, then given you a 21 db overdrive preamp to smash a lo-fi digital delay chip designed for karaoke machines and children's toys into rich, warm, smeared and repeated glory. Yeah, we're going back in time - back to when they measured data in KILOBYTES!

Each of the controls has a lot of range, and YES, this thing can get plenty loud and powerful. We give you that power in hopes that you'll use it wisely.

Proudly made in the USA at our small batch distortery ^™ in Columbia, S.C.
