Frequently Asked Questions - ATEMNO Hoffman

How do I install the ATEMNO thermostat?
The thermostat should be installed by a qualified technician. It clips onto a 35 mm DIN rail (EN50022). Ensure the ventilation openings are not covered and that the device is placed correctly: for heating in the upper area of the enclosure away from heaters; for cooling at the bottom away from cooling devices.
Where should I place the thermostat in my enclosure?
For heating applications, install the thermostat in the upper area of the enclosure, as far as possible from heaters or other heat sources. For cooling applications, install it at the bottom of the enclosure, away from the cooling device. This ensures accurate temperature measurement.
How do I set the temperature?
The set point is adjusted via the adjustment knob. However, you must account for the hysteresis (7 K ±4 K). For example, if you need a minimum of 5°C with a normally closed contact, set the knob to 16°C (5°C + 11 K max hysteresis).
What is the hysteresis value?
The hysteresis (switching difference) is 7 K ±4 K. This means the temperature must change by at least 3 K to 11 K before the switch changes state.
What is the difference between normally open and normally closed contacts?
A normally closed (a) contact opens when temperature rises, while a normally open (b) contact closes when temperature rises. The combination (c) provides both functions in one device.
Can I use this thermostat for both heating and cooling?
Yes, the ATEMNO can be used for both heating and cooling by selecting the appropriate contact type. For heating, use the normally closed contact; for cooling, use the normally open contact. The combination type can handle both functions.
What is the operating temperature range?
The operating temperature range of the thermostat is -45°C to 80°C (-49°F to 176°F). Ensure the enclosure temperature stays within this range.
Does the thermostat require external power?
No, the ATEMNO is a passive switching device. It does not require external power; it simply opens or closes a contact based on temperature.
How do I test if the thermostat is working?
To test, measure continuity across the contacts with a multimeter. For a normally closed contact, it should show continuity below the set point and open above it. For normally open, continuity above the set point. Use a thermometer to verify temperature.
What should I do if the ventilation openings are covered?
Never cover the ventilation openings. Covering them can cause inaccurate temperature readings and potential damage. Keep the openings clear to allow ambient air circulation.

Temperature Controls

• The temperature control should only be installed by qualified technicians in accordance with the respective national electrical codes.
- The safety and protection against incidental contact is to be ensured through proper installation.
• The technical specifications (voltage and current) as stated on the product must not be exceeded!

a. Normally closed contact (switching contact opens at rising temperature)
b. Normally open contact (switching contact closes at rising temperature)
c. Combination (combination of a) and b))

Applications:

The temperature controls are used to regulate heating equipment, cooling equipment, filter fans and heat exchangers. In addition, they can also be used as switching contacts for signal devices used as low—or high temperature alarms.

Installation guidelines:

The temperature controls are designed to measure the temperature in enclosures. When used in heating applications, they should be installed in the upper area of the enclosure as far away as possible from heaters or other heat-generating components. When used in cooling applications, they should be installed at the bottom of the enclosure as far away as possible from the cooling device.

Clip–mounting onto 35 mm DIN rails according to EN50022 is standard.

The ventilation openings of the temperature control should not be covered at any time.

Operating temperature range: -45 °C to 80 °C (-49 °F to 176 °F)

Important: as operating conditions vary widely, safe operation of the temperature control is to be checked in the final application.

Setting recommendations:

The hysteresis (switching difference) of the temperature control should be taken into account:

a), b) and c): 7 K± 4 K (Kelvin)

In order to determine the actual set point of the normally closed contact, the maximum rated hysteresis should be added to the required minimum operating temperature:

Example for a):

required minimum temperature in enclosure: 5 C (41 F)

Hysteresis of temperature control: +11 K (= 7 K ± 4 K)

Set point on adjustment knob: 16 C (61 F)

a) 1 2 LOAD L N <θ>

b) 1 2 LOAD L N <9>

c) 11 12 L1 N1 <9 LOAD1 23 LOAD2 24 <9 L2 N2
