Frequently Asked Questions - JKC930C BLACK & DECKER

What is the capacity of the Black & Decker JKC930C kettle?
The kettle has a maximum capacity of 1.7 liters (60 oz) or 7 cups, and a minimum of 3.5 cups (0.8 L) for safe operation.
How do I descale the kettle?
Use a commercial scale/lime remover and follow the manufacturer's instructions. Alternatively, boil a mixture of water and vinegar (2 cups water + 1/4 cup vinegar), let it sit, then rinse thoroughly.
Why won't the kettle turn on?
Check that the kettle is properly placed on the base, the on/off switch is set to I, and the outlet is working. If the kettle has boiled dry, unplug and allow it to cool before refilling.
Can I use the kettle without the filter?
It is recommended to always use the removable filter to prevent scale particles from pouring into your beverage. However, the kettle will still function without it.
How do I clean the kettle?
Unplug and let cool. Wash the interior and removable filter with hot soapy water; rinse well. Wipe the exterior and base with a damp cloth. Do not immerse the kettle or base in water.
The switch won't stay on. What should I do?
Allow the kettle to cool for 5-10 minutes and ensure there is enough water. The switch is designed to not stay on when the kettle is too hot or empty.
What is the boil-dry protection?
The kettle automatically shuts off if it is turned on without water or if the water level drops too low. It will cycle on/off until unplugged, so always unplug if not in use.
Is the kettle cord long enough?
The kettle comes with a short power cord to reduce tripping hazards. Extra cord can be stored under the base. Extension cords may be used if rated for the appliance's power.
Can I boil other liquids like milk or soup?
The kettle is designed for water only. Do not use it for milk, soup, or other liquids as they may cause damage or create a safety hazard.
What does the warranty cover?
The 2-year limited warranty covers defects in material or workmanship. It does not cover commercial use, misuse, or normal wear. See the manual for full details.

HELPFUL TIPS

• Always use fresh, cold water for each boiling process.
- Do not store water in the kettle. This helps to prevent build up of mineral deposits.
- For your safety, make sure the lid of the kettle is closed securely before pressing the on/off (I/O) switch.
• Always unplug the kettle before filling.
- Never use less than the minimum amount of water (3½ cups / 0.8 L). Note the MIN line on the kettle.
- Never use more than the maximum amount of water (7 cups / 1.7 L). Note the MAX line on the kettle.
- The power supply is connected only to the base. This allows for easy movement of the kettle to the table. (Remember to use a trivet or hot pad under the hot kettle.)
- Do not try to hold the on/off switch in the on (I) position when water has boiled.
- Use your kettle to boil water for beverages, soups, cereal, noodles, rice and pasta.

REMOVABLE FILTER

BLACK & DECKER JKC930C - REMOVABLE FILTER - 1

Always boil water with the filter in place just behind the spout. To insert filter, place behind the spout, align and push down until securely in place (E).

Note: Lime scale forms over time when water is heated. Though scale is natural and harmless, it may produce a powdery substance or mineral-like chunks that can get into your hot beverages and affect the taste. While the concealed heating element in this kettle is designed to help reduce scale buildup, the filter helps prevent particles from pouring into your beverage.

Care and Cleaning

This appliance contains no user-serviceable parts. Refer service to qualified service personnel.

CLEANING

  1. Before cleaning, be sure the base is unplugged and the kettle has cooled completely. Empty any remaining water from the kettle.
  2. Pull out the removable filter for cleaning. Wash the filter in hot, soapy water and rinse or place it in the utensil holder of the dishwasher.
  3. Wash the inside of the kettle with soapy water and rinse.

Important: Never immerse the kettle in water or other liquids or place in a dishwasher.

  1. Wipe exterior of the kettle and base with a damp cloth or sponge and dry.

Note: The heating element at the bottom of the interior may discolor. This will not affect performance. Do not use abrasive soaps, cleansers, or scouring pads.
