Frequently Asked Questions - JKU4021 JUNO

What should I do if the interior light does not come on?
Check that the bulb is properly screwed in. If it still doesn't work, replace the bulb with one of the same power (max rating shown on light cover). Also ensure the appliance is powered.
Why is the compressor not working?
Check that the appliance is plugged in and that the thermostat is set to an operating position (not 'O' or OFF). If the power supply is OK and the thermostat is on, contact service.
The compressor runs continuously. What can I do?
The thermostat may be set too high (coldest setting). Turn the knob to a warmer setting (lower number). Also ensure the door is closed properly and there is adequate ventilation.
There is water on the bottom of the refrigerator compartment. How to fix?
Check the defrost water drain hole in the middle of the channel. It may be blocked. Use the special cleaner tool provided to unclog it and prevent overflow.
How do I adjust the temperature?
Turn the thermostat knob clockwise to decrease temperature (colder) or anticlockwise to increase (warmer). A medium setting is generally best. Adjust based on ambient temperature and food load.
How do I defrost the refrigerator?
The refrigerator compartment defrosts automatically when the compressor stops. Frost on the evaporator melts and drains through a hole into a container at the back. Clean the drain hole periodically.
How should I clean the appliance?
Unplug the appliance. Use warm water and bicarbonate of soda to clean the interior. Rinse and dry thoroughly. Never use metal objects or abrasive powders.
Can I reverse the door opening direction?
Yes. Follow the instructions in the manual: remove hinges, swap them to the opposite side, and adjust. After reversal, discard the original plastic insert and fit the new one supplied.
Can I fit a decorative panel to the door?
Yes. Use the supplied brackets and screws. Measure distance A, position the top bracket, hook the panel onto the door, and adjust alignment. Then tighten all fixings and cover the bracket with the plastic cover.
What safety precautions should I take?
Do not use sharp instruments to remove frost; use the scraper provided. Do not place carbonated drinks in the freezer. Ensure adequate ventilation. USE

Cleaning the interior

Before using the appliance for the first time, wash the interior and all internal accessories with lukewarm water and some neutral soap so as to remove the typical smell of a brand-new product, then dry thoroughly.

Do not use detergents or abrasive powders, as these will damage the finish.

Starting-up

Insert the plug into the wall socket.

Open the door and turn the thermostat control knob, to be found on the upper right hand side of the inner compartment, clockwise beyond position «O» (OFF) to start the appliance.

Temperature control

Temperature adjustment is obtained by turning the thermostat knob clockwise until its pointer coincides with the required setting.

A medium setting is generally the most suitable.

The minimum setting (least cold) is represented by the lowest number and the maximum setting (coldest) by the highest number. In any case, bear in mind that the temperature can be either increased (warmer) by turning the thermostat knob anticlockwise or decreased (colder) by turning it clockwise.

The thermostat knob setting should be adjusted depending on the inner temperature of the refrigerator, which, in turn, depends on a number of factors, such as: the ambient temperature, the number of times the door is opened, the quantity of food stored and the location of the appliance.

JUNO JKU4021 - Temperature control - 1

Warning

If the ambient temperature is high, the thermostat knob is on the coldest setting (higher numbers) and the appliance is fully loaded, the compressor may run continuously, causing frost or ice to form on the evaporator. If this happens, turn the knob to a warmer setting (lower numbers) to allow automatic defrosting and so a saving in electricity consumption.

Fresh food refrigeration

To obtain the best performance:

do not store warm food or evaporating liquids in the refrigerator;

do cover or wrap the food, particularly if it has a strong flavour.

Position food so that air can circulate freely round it.

Useful hints:

Meat (all types): wrap in polythene bags and place on the glass shelf above the vegetable drawer.

For safety, store in this way only one or two days at the most.

Cooked foods, cold dishes, etc.: these should be covered and may be placed on any shelf.

Fruit and vegetables: these should be thoroughly cleaned and placed in the special drawer(s) provided.

Butter and cheese: these should be placed in special airtight containers or wrapped in aluminium foil or polythene bags to exclude as much air as possible.

Milk bottles: these should have a cap and should be stored in the bottle rack on the door.

Bananas, potatoes, onions and garlic, if not packed, must not be kept in the refrigerator.

Inner arrangement

Movable shelves

The walls of the refrigerator are equipped with a series of runners so that the shelves can be positioned as desired.

JUNO JKU4021 - Movable shelves - 1

Positioning the door shelves

To permit storage of food packages of various sizes, the door shelves can be adjusted in height.

To make these adjustments proceed as follows:

Gradually pull the shelf in the direction of the arrows until it comes free, then reposition as required.

For more thorough cleaning, the door shelves can be removed by pulling them in the direction of the arrows, then refitting them in position.

Defrosting

Frost is automatically eliminated from the evaporator of the refrigerator compartment every time the motor compressor stops, during normal use.

The defrost water drains out through a trough into a special container at the back of the appliance, over the motor compressor, where it evaporates.

It is important to periodically clean the defrost water drain hole in the middle of the refrigerator compartment channel to prevent the water overflowing and dripping onto the food inside. Use the special cleaner provided, which you will find already inserted into the drain hole.
