How do I measure rice for cooking?

Use the provided Measuring Cup which holds approximately 6.1 oz (180 mL). One level cup of uncooked rice yields about two servings.

How much water should I add?

Add water up to the corresponding scale line on the inner pan for the number of cups. For example, for 6 cups of rice, fill water to the '6' mark on the 'CUP' scale.

Why is my rice not cooking properly?

Ensure the Inner Pan is properly seated on the Heating Plate, the Upper Lid is firmly closed, and you have added the correct amount of water. Also, check that the power is on and the switch is pushed down.

How do I clean the rice cooker?

Unplug and let cool. Clean the Inner Pan with a soft sponge and mild detergent. Wipe the Main Body with a well-wrung cloth. Remove and wash the Steam Vent Set and Dew Collector under running water.

What should I do if the rice smells bad?

Possible causes: reheating cold rice, Upper Lid not closed properly, power interruption, keeping warm over 12 hours, or unclean parts. Discard spoiled rice, clean thoroughly, and avoid these practices.

Can I cook other foods in the rice cooker?

No, this rice cooker is designed exclusively for cooking rice. Do not use it to reheat other foods, make porridge, or stew, as it may cause damage or malfunction.

IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS

WHEN USING ELECTRICAL APPLIANCES, BASIC SAFETY PRECAUTIONS SHOULD ALWAYS BE FOLLOWED, INCLUDING THE FOLLOWING:

1 Read all instructions carefully.
2 Do not touch hot surface. Use handles or knobs. Do not close or clog the steam vent opening under any circumstance.

4 Close supervision is necessary when the appliance is used by or near children.

HOW TO USE

1 Measure rice accurately and wash.

● Measure rice accurately with the provided Measuring Cup. One cup measures approx. 6.1oz. (approx. 180mL).
● Wash rice with cold water until the water becomes relatively clear.
● Do not use the Inner Pan to wash rice.

2 Put washed rice into the Inner Pan, and add proper amount of water.

The scale of the Inner Pan represents the standard amount of water. Adjust the amount of water according to sorts of rice.

3 Place the Inner Pan in the Main Body.

● Wipe off any water and foreign objects carefully from the top, bottom, and sides of the Inner Pan, and from the surface of the Heating Plate. Otherwise, corrosion may develop, noise may be produced during cooking, and rice may not be cooked properly.
● Slightly turn the Inner Pan so that it sits properly on the Heating Plate.
- If the Inner Pan is at an angle, the rice may not be cooked well.

Before Cooking

For best results to cook fluffy and tasty rice, it is recommended to soak the raw rice in water for about 30 minutes in the summertime and about 2 hours in the wintertime.

4 Close the Upper Lid firmly and properly.

• If the Upper Lid is not firmly closed, it will affect rice cooking.
  ● Do not open the Upper Lid during cooking.

HOW TO USE

5 Plug in the Plug and push down the Switch.

• Insert the Plug securely into a household electric outlet.
  ● Then, push the Switch down, the "KEEP WARM" Light turns off, and "COOK" Light turns on.

6 Switch turns off with a "click" sound.

- When the rice is cooked, the Switch turns off automatically with a "click" sound. Then the "KEEP WARM" system starts working automatically and the "KEEP WARM" Light turns on.

The cooking time shown on above chart is based on voltage of 120V, room temperature of 68°F (20°C) and water temperature of 64°F (18°C).

The time is from start of cooking to start of keep warm.

Please note that the cooking time may vary depending on voltage, room temperature, season and amount of water.

7 Keep the Upper Lid closed.

- Do not open the Upper Lid until the cooking process is completed. For better results, after the Rice Cooker switches to "KEEP WARM", it is recommended to keep the Upper Lid closed for about 15 minutes so that the rice can be steamed and softened by its own moisture. This is an important process to make fluffy, tasty rice.

HOW TO USE

8 Loosen the cooked rice.

• When the steaming process ends, open the Upper Lid and loosen the cooked rice with the Spatula.
  ● This is an important process because it releases any excess steam and helps keeping freshness of the cooked rice.
  ● This must be done whether the cooked rice is to be served at once or to be kept warm for hours.

9 Unplug the Plug if you do not want to keep rice warm or when the unit is not in use.

CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS

● Clean the Rice Cooker thoroughly after every use.
● Be sure to unplug the Plug and allow the Main Body and the Inner Pan to cool down.
- Do not use a thinner, benzene, abrasive cleaners and brushes (nylon/metal), bleach or anything that may damage the surface of the Rice Cooker.
- Do not use a dishwasher or dish-dryer. Doing so may cause scratches, deformation or discoloration.
● Be sure to reattach the Steam Cap, Spatula Holder and Dew Collector correctly.

HOW TO MAINTAIN THE INNER PAN IN GOOD CONDITION

The nonstick coating can peel off if damaged. Please take special care to prevent damage and follow these precautions:

Do not use the Inner Pan for dish washing.

Do not use vinegar in it.

Clean the Inner Pan immediately after using any seasonings.

Do not use brushes or abrasive cleaners to clean.

● The nonstick coating may wear out with use. The nonstick coating may eventually discolor or peel off. This will not affect the cooking / Keep Warm performances or sanitary properties, and is harmless to your health.
- If concerned with the peeling of the nonstick coating or if the Inner Pan deforms, please replace it by purchasing a new one. → pg.12

CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS

HOW TO CLEAN THE EXTERIOR

Main Body: Wipe clean with a well-wrung soft cloth.

- If using a cloth that is chemically treated, use sparingly to avoid transferring the chemical smell and do not scrub the Rice Cooker forcefully.

Push Button

If the Push Button becomes clogged with rice or other matter, remove with a bamboo stick.

Wipe with a well-wrung soft cloth.

HOW TO CLEAN THE INTERIOR

Upper Lid

Hold the Upper Lid securely and wipe with a well-wrung soft cloth. Remove any rice or residue on the inside of the Upper Lid.

● Do not use kitchen detergents.
● Leaving rice and other matter on the surface may cause the Upper Lid to rust or discolor.

Lid Packing

Wipe with a well-wrung soft cloth.

Heating Plate

Wipe with a well-wrung soft cloth. If rice or other matter become stuck to the Heating Plate, lightly polish them off with a sand paper of about No.320 after dipping in water.

Dew Collector

Pull out the Dew Collector and wash with lukewarm water.

Electromagnetic Thermostat

Wipe with a well-wrung soft cloth. If it becomes clogged with rice or other matter, remove with a bamboo stick.

CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS

HOW TO CLEAN THE STEAM VENT SET

Pull off the Steam Vent Set straight toward you to remove it from the Upper Lid. Wash it under running water.

The Steam Vent Cap can be detached by turning it to the direction marked "DETACH". To attach, align the △ of the Steam Vent Cap and the △ of the Steam Vent Case.

Then turn it in the direction marked "ATTACH", and make sure that it is securely fitted.

Please do not remove the Reverse Stopper Valve.

After cleaning and maintenance, please make sure the Steam Vent Set is inserted into the Upper Lid. Align the △ mark of the Steam Vent Case with the ▽ mark of the Upper Lid and push in straight to attach.

Reattach the Steam Vent Set if △ mark of the Steam Vent Case and the ▽ mark of the Upper Lid are not aligned.

GENERAL PRECAUTIONS

1 Do not touch:

• Do not touch the area near the Steam Vent while "COOK" Light (Red), or "KEEP WARM" Light (Orange) is "ON" because it is very hot.
• Do not cover the Steam Vent with any kind of cloth. The Upper Lid may deform or change color.

2 Do not use a power source other than 120V AC. Use only an electrical outlet rated at 15 amperes minimum, and do not plug other devices into the same outlet. Do not bend or twist the Power Supply Cord.

GENERAL PRECAUTIONS

3 Do not immerse the Rice Cooker in water or splash it with water. Do not pour water directly into the Rice Cooker.

Doing so may cause short circuit or electric shock.

4 Insert the Plug to an electric outlet only when rice is ready to be cooked.

Then push the Switch down immediately to start cooking. If the Plug is left plugged while the Switch is not pushed down, the Thermal Reed Switch will close automatically and electric current will flow to the keep warm heater.

5 Do not turn on the Switch when empty.

- Do not turn the Switch on when the Inner Pan is empty or the Inner Pan is not in the unit.

6 To prevent overflowing, do not fill the Inner Pan with too much rice or water.

7 Do not use for other purposes.

● Do not use your Rice Cooker for purposes other than cooking rice.

- Do not reheat cold, pre-cooked rice, make rice porridge or make stew.

● Do not use it to warm soup, curry, stew and other cooked foods.

● Do not leave the plastic spatula in the Rice Cooker.

8 Keep away from any source of intense heat.

● Do not immerse the Rice Cooker in water for cleaning, because it may cause electrical shock.

- Do not place it near gas or electric ovens, stoves or any source of intense heat.

● Also keep it away from a water tap to protect it from moisture.

GENERAL PRECAUTIONS

9 Do not shake.

- Do not shake the Rice Cooker when the Upper Lid is open, because it may cause the Upper Lid to shut and injure your fingers.

10 Do not use sauce, vinegar, ketchup, salt, sugar, oil, butter, or spices with water to cook rice. These additives often spoil cooked rice in a few hours.
11 Any other servicing should be performed by an authorized service representative.

If the rice smells bad...

the cause could be one of the following reasons.

1. Cold, pre-cooked rice is reheated.
2. The Upper Lid is not closed properly.
3. The electric power supply is intermittent.
4. The rice is kept warm over 12 hours.
5. A Spatula or other foreign material is left in the Inner Pan while the Rice Cooker / Warmer is in use.
6. Upper Lid and Inner Pan are not clean.
7. Possible mechanical or electrical malfunction which causes an extraordinary low temperature.

If the rice shows yellowish color...

1. The rice is kept warm over 12 hours.
2. Possible mechanical or electrical malfunction causes an extraordinary high temperature.

In either case, do not eat or serve the spoiled rice.

Empty, clean, and dry the Upper Lid and Inner Pan thoroughly before you use the Rice Cooker again.
