How do I install the LG GCC-H21N drive?

First, turn off the system power and disconnect the power cord. Remove the computer cover and a vacant 5.25" drive bay panel. Slide the drive into the bay. Set the jumper on the rear of the drive: use Slave if connected to the primary IDE port with a hard drive, or Master on the secondary IDE port if alone. Connect the audio cable (optional), IDE data cable, and DC power cable. Replace the cover, connect power, and restart the computer.

What jumper settings should I use?

If using the primary IDE port and sharing with a hard drive, set the drive to Slave. If using the secondary IDE port with no other device, set to Master. If two drives are on the same channel, set one to Master and the other to Slave. If interface problems occur, try swapping the jumpers or moving one drive to another IDE channel.

What disc types does the GCC-H21N support?

Can I use 8 cm discs in the drive?

Yes, 8 cm discs can be used, but only when the drive is placed horizontally. Do not use them with the drive in a vertical position.

What software should I install before using the drive?

Install the included CD Recording Software (which includes PowerDVD for playback). It is recommended to uninstall any previous CD burning software to avoid compatibility issues. After installing the new software, you may reinstall previous software if needed.

How do I manually eject a disc?

The drive has a power tray loading mechanism. For manual ejection, insert a small pin or paper clip into the emergency eject hole (located on the front panel) to release the tray.

What are the power requirements for the drive?

The drive requires DC 5V and DC 12V from the computer's power supply. It connects via a standard 4-pin power connector.

Installing the Drive

Before installing the drive, turn off the system power.

Disconnect the power cord, and remove the cover.

- Remove a vacant 5.25" drive bay panel from the computer. Slide the drive into the drive bay.

Set the jumper on the rear of the drive as necessary.

A. When using a Primary IDE port

If you need to connect your drive to the same primary IDE channel as the hard drive, the drive should be set to SLAVE position.

B. When using a Secondary IDE port

① If there is no device connected to the secondary IDE channel, connect the drive to this channel and set the jumper to MASTER.
② When two drives are connected, set one drive to MASTER and the other drive to SLAVE. If your operating system encounters interface problems after installing the new drive, try swapping the jumpers or move one drive to another IDE channel.

Connect the audio cable/IDE data cable/DC power cable to the drive.

Connect the audio cable (if applicable) to the drive and then to the computer's audio connection, located on the sound card or the mother board. This connection is normally not required.
② Connect the IDE data cable to the back of the drive.
③ Connect a 4-pin power supply cable from the computer to the drive.

Replace the cover, connect the power cord and restart your computer.
