Frequently Asked Questions - ACPHP09K Defy

How do I install the exhaust hose?
Attach the exhaust hose to the back of the unit and extend it to a window or vent. Use the supplied window kit to seal the opening. Ensure the hose is as short and straight as possible for efficient cooling.
How often should I clean the air filter?
Clean the filter every two weeks under normal use. Remove it, wash with lukewarm water, let it dry completely before reinstalling. A dirty filter reduces cooling performance and increases energy consumption.
Why is the unit not cooling enough?
Check that the filter is clean, the exhaust hose is properly installed and not blocked, and the room is sealed from outside air. Also ensure the set temperature is lower than room temperature and the unit is the correct size for the room (up to 20-25 m² for 9000 BTU).
How do I drain the condensate water?
In humid conditions, water collects in the internal tank. You can either use the continuous drain by attaching a hose to the drain outlet, or empty the bucket manually when the full indicator lights up. Refer to the manual for your model.
Can I use the air conditioner without the exhaust hose?
No, the exhaust hose must always be vented to the outside to expel hot air. Using it without the hose will cause the unit to overheat and not cool effectively.
What does the timer function do?
The timer allows you to set the unit to turn on or off automatically up to 24 hours in advance. Use it to cool the room before you arrive or to save energy by turning off after you sleep.
The remote control is not working. What should I do?
First, check the batteries and replace them if needed. Ensure there are no obstacles between the remote and the unit, and that you are within range (about 7 meters). If still not working, point the remote at the unit and press the button firmly.
How to switch between cooling and fan only mode?
Press the Mode button on the remote or control panel until you see the desired mode icon. In fan mode, the compressor does not run, so it only circulates air without cooling.
What is the recommended temperature setting for optimal cooling?
For energy efficiency and comfort, set the thermostat to 24-26°C. This balances cooling performance with electricity consumption. Each degree lower increases energy use by about 10%.
The unit displays an error code E1/E2/E3. What does it mean?
Error codes indicate sensor or system faults. E1 usually means a room temperature sensor error, E2 indicates a coil sensor error, and E3 may be a refrigerant leak or compressor issue. If the error persists, contact Defy service center.

Protection Functions

Frost Protection Function

In cooling, dehumidifying or economic power saving mode, if the temperature of the exhaust pipe is too low, the machine will automatically enter protection status; if the temperature of the exhaust pipe reaches a certain temperature, it automatically reverts to normal operation.

Overflow Protection Function

When water in the water pan exceeds the warning level, the machine will automatically sound an alarm, and the "FULL" indicator light will flash. At this point, you need to move the drainage pipe connecting the machine or the water outlet to sewer or other drainage area to empty the water (See drainage instructions). After the water is emptied, the machine will automatically return to the original setting.

Automatic Defrosting ( Only cooling models have this function)

The machine has automatic defrosting function.

Protection Function of the Compressor

To increase the service life of the compressor, it has a 3-minute delay booting protection function after the compressor is turned off

Water drainage

Manual drainage:

1) When the machine stops after the water is full, turn off the machine power and unplug the power plug. Note: Please move the machine carefully, so as not to spill the water in the water pan at the bottom of the body.

2) Place the water container below the side water outlet behind the body. 3) Unscrew the drainage cover and unplug the water plug, the water will automatically flow into the water container.

  1. Keep the drainage cover and the water plug in a safe place.
  2. During drainage, the body can be tilted backwards slightly.
  3. If the water container gets too full, plug the water outlet with the water plug as soon as possible to prevent water from flowing onto the floor or the carpet.
4 When the water has completely drained refit the water plug, and tighten the drainage cover. Note. Restart the machine only after the water plug and drainage cover are installed, or condensate water from the machine will flow onto the floor or the carpet.

Warning: In order to avoid an electric shock, always power off the air conditioner and pull out the plug from the wall socket before cleaning, maintenance or repairs.

Warning: Do not attempt to maintain or repair the appliance yourself. Only authorised agents are to carry out repairs.

Cleaning the appliance

  1. Wipe the surface of the appliance with a soft moist cloth and then wipe it again with a soft dry cloth. (Do not use benzene, solvent or any other chemical products).

Cleaning the air filters

  1. Clean the air filters at least once in every two weeks. Before cleaning, be sure to stop the operation of the appliance and pull out the plug from the wall socket.
  2. If the filters are blocked and are not cleaned then the efficiency of the air conditioner will be reduced.
  3. Wash the filters in clean water and leave them to dry in the shade.

Note: Do not run the appliance without filters.

Clean the filter screen

If the filter screen is clogged with dust, and the effectiveness of the air conditioning is reduced, be sure to clean the filter screen once every two weeks.

Clean the upper filter screen frame

1) Clasp the wedging block of the EVA filter screen frame with hands. Push down from the outside to remove the EVA filter screen frame. Unscrew four screws fixing the EVA filter screen and the rear housing to remove the EVA filter screen (as shown in the above figure).

If you will not be using the appliance for a long period of time

1: Unscrew the drainage cover, unplug the water plug, and discharge the water in the water pan into other water containers or directly tilt the body to discharge the water into other containers.
2: Turn on the machine, adjust it to low-wind ventilation mode, and maintain this state until the drainage pipe becomes dry, so as to keep the inside of the body in a dry state and prevent it from mildewing.
3: Turn off the machine, unplug the power plug, and wrap the power cord around the wrapping post; install the water plug and the drainage cover.
4: Remove the exhaust pipe and keep it properly.
5: Cover the air conditioning with a plastic bag. Put the air conditioning in a dry place, keep it out of the reach of children, and take dust control measures.
6: Remove batteries of the remote control and keep them properly.
Note: ensure that the body is placed in a dry place and keep all machine components properly.

If you have not used the air conditioner for a long period of time

  • Clean the filters and refit them to their original position. Clean the appliance with a piece of soft cloth.
  • Insert the power plug (ensure the earth wire is not loose).
  • Refit the batteries into the remote controller.
