Frequently Asked Questions - 14891 MONOPRICE

How do I power the Monoprice 14891 microphone?
You can power it using two AAA batteries installed in the base, or by connecting to an XLR jack with +48V phantom power. The base has an ON/OFF button and LED indicator.
Can I use the microphone without the base?
Yes, you can plug the microphone's XLR connector directly into a mixer or PA system that provides +48V phantom power. Without the base, battery power is not available.
What is the polar pattern and what does it mean?
The polar pattern is cardioid, meaning it picks up sound primarily from the front while rejecting noise from the sides and rear. This is ideal for focusing on a single speaker.
How do I connect the microphone to a mixer?
Connect the XLR plug on the microphone's stem to the base, then use the included 25-foot XLR cable from the base to the mixer. Alternatively, connect the mic directly to an XLR input on the mixer with phantom power enabled.
Why is the power LED not illuminating?
Check that fresh batteries are installed correctly, or ensure +48V phantom power is activated on the connected XLR jack. If using batteries, replace them.
The microphone is plugged in but no sound – what to do?
Ensure the proper input channel is selected on your mixer, increase the microphone input volume, and raise the amplifier's output. Also try swapping the XLR cable with a known working one.
Can I use the microphone with a 1/4" jack?
Yes, via the included female XLR to male 1/4" TS adapter. However, note that without the base, the mic cannot use batteries and a 1/4" jack does not supply phantom power, so the mic will not work unless connected through the base with batteries.
How do I clean the microphone?
Use a soft, dry cloth. Do not use chemical cleaners, solvents, or detergents. For stubborn deposits, moisten the cloth with warm water.
What is the battery life?
When powered by two AAA batteries, the microphone provides approximately 24 hours of use.
What accessories are included in the box?
The package includes: 1x condenser microphone with removable foam pop filter, 1x microphone base, 1x 25-foot XLR cable, 1x female XLR to male 1/4" TS plug adapter, and a user's manual.
