Frequently Asked Questions - BB-RE-2436-V2 Angler

How do I install batteries in the Angler BB-RE-2436-V2 flash?
Open the battery compartment on the side of the flash. Insert four AA batteries following the polarity markings (+/-) inside the compartment. Use Ni-MH rechargeable batteries for best performance. Close the cover securely.
Can I use this flash wirelessly with my camera?
Yes, the flash supports optical slave modes (S1 and S2). To use wirelessly, set the flash to slave mode and trigger it with another flash or the camera's built-in flash. Ensure the camera's flash is set to manual or optical triggering.
What is the maximum guide number and how is it measured?
The guide number is approximately 30 meters at ISO 100. This means at f/1.0 and ISO 100, the flash can illuminate a subject up to 30 meters away. In real use, adjust aperture and ISO accordingly.
How do I adjust the flash power output?
Press the power level button (often labeled 'POWER' or 'LEVEL') repeatedly to cycle through power settings from 1/1 (full) to 1/64. The current setting is displayed on the LCD screen. This allows you to control the flash intensity.
What does the S1 and S2 slave mode mean?
S1 mode triggers the flash on the first flash burst from the master unit, regardless of pre-flashes. S2 mode ignores pre-flashes and fires on the main flash burst, which is useful with TTL systems. Select the mode using the slave switch.
Can I tilt and swivel the flash head for bounce photography?
Yes, the flash head tilts up 90 degrees and rotates horizontally 270 degrees. This allows indirect lighting by bouncing the flash off ceilings or walls for softer illumination. Make sure the head locks into position.
How long does it take to recycle the flash between shots?
Recycle time depends on battery condition and power setting. With fresh alkaline batteries, it is about 4-6 seconds at full power. Using Ni-MH rechargeable batteries can reduce recycle time to 3-5 seconds. Use a faster recycling if needed.
Is the flash compatible with any camera?
The flash features a standard hot shoe mount and a PC sync port, making it compatible with most cameras that have a hot shoe or flash sync socket. However, it does not support TTL metering; it fires manually or via slave. Use in manual mode.
How should I clean and maintain the flash unit?
Wipe the flash body with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or solvents. Keep the flash head lens clean with a microfiber cloth. Store in a cool, dry place. Remove batteries if not used for extended periods to prevent leakage.
What safety precautions should I take when using the flash?
Do not disassemble the flash as it contains high-voltage capacitors. Avoid using the flash in flammable or explosive environments. Do not expose to water or excessive humidity. Keep away from children. If overheating occurs, stop use and let cool.

Setting Up the BoomBox

  1. For Monolights and studio strobes with Bowens mounts, align the mounting tabs with the Bowens mount and insert the BoomBox into the Bowens mount. Turn the BoomBox clockwise until it locks.

  2. Open the BoomBox, and push the center ring over the shaft until it's all the way in, just like an umbrella.

Tip: You may find it easier to hold the base of the shaft through the side opening while pushing the center ring over it.

  1. Adjust the BoomBox's orientation by loosening the adapter ring's thumbscrew and rotating the BoomBox. Tighten the thumbscrew until secure.

Optional: To add the deflector to the BoomBox, screw the deflector extension into the center stem. Once it's attached, slide the deflector plate onto the extension.

Try experimenting with the curved side of the deflector facing out or in, and by varying the distance from the light source.

Attaching the Diffusers

The inner and outer diffusers add two levels of diffusion that soften and spread the light for an even and flattering effect. The diffusers can be used with or without the deflector plate.

  1. Attach the inner diffuser by attaching the diffuser's touch-connect strips to the touch connect tabs inside the BoomBox.

  2. Attach the outer diffuser by pressing the touch-connect strips against the inner rim of the BoomBox.
