Frequently Asked Questions - FS95 Duronic

How do I use the Duronic FS95 food steamer for the first time?
Before first use, remove all packaging and wash the Rice Steaming Bowl, Lid, Steamer Baskets, and Drip Tray in warm soapy water or dishwasher. Wipe the base unit with a damp cloth. Place the steamer on a flat, dry surface near a power outlet. Fill the water tank up to the MAX line, assemble the drip tray and baskets, add food, place the lid, turn the timer dial, and steam.
What is the maximum water level in the tank?
The water tank has a maximum capacity of 1500 ml indicated by a MAX line. Do not exceed this line to avoid overflow. The minimum is 500 ml.
Can I steam rice in the FS95?
Yes, the steamer includes a Rice Steaming Bowl. For best results, use 400g of rice and steam for 45-50 minutes with cold water.
How do I clean the Duronic FS95?
Unplug and let cool completely. Wash removable parts (Baskets, Lid, Drip Tray, Rice Bowl) in warm soapy water or dishwasher. Do not immerse the base unit; wipe with a damp cloth. Descaling: fill tank with white vinegar, steam for 20-25 minutes, let cool, empty, and rinse.
Why is my steamer not producing enough steam?
Check water level: ensure it's above the minimum line. If low, refill. Clean any blockages in baskets or water tank; limescale buildup may require descaling. Also avoid overcrowding the baskets.
Can I put the steamer parts in the dishwasher?
Yes, the Steamer Baskets, Lid, Drip Tray, and Rice Steaming Bowl are dishwasher safe. However, the base unit must never be immersed or placed in the dishwasher.
What are the cooking times for common foods?
Refer to the recipe guide in the manual. Examples: Rice (400g) 45-50 min, Potato (900g) 40 min, Carrot (550g) 25 min, Eggs (8) 15-20 min, Chicken (550g) 40 min. Times vary based on size and preference.
Is the Duronic FS95 safe to leave unattended?
No, never leave the steamer unattended during operation. It has an auto shut-off when water runs low, but you should stay nearby to monitor and prevent dry burning.
What should I do if the steamer leaks water?
Ensure all parts are assembled correctly: Baskets, Lid, and Water Tank must be aligned. Check that steam vents at the bottom of baskets are not blocked. Avoid overfilling the water tank.
How often should I descale the steamer?
Descaling frequency depends on water hardness. Use distilled or filtered water to reduce scale. When you notice limescale buildup or reduced steam, fill the tank with white vinegar, steam for 20-25 minutes, cool, empty, and rinse.

Recipe Guide

Note: The information provided is intended as a guide; individual preferences and conditions may affect results. Use cold water for the times below.

Ingredient Quantity Time
Rice 400g 45 - 50 min
Potato 900g 40 min
Carrot 550g 25 min
Egg 8 Eggs 15 - 20 min
Chicken 550g 40 min

Usage Tips:

• Cooking times are for reference; actual cooking time varies based on food size, freshness, and preference. Experienced users can set their own times.
- For optimised cooking, a single-layer of spaced out food cooks faster. Cooking food in similar-sized chunks can help with even cooking.
- Leave space in the steaming bowl for maximum steam.
• Stir large quantities of food during cooking.
• Defrost meat before steaming.
- The steam cooks food faster directly above the base unit in the bottom Steamer Basket. Place long-cooking foods in the lower basket. This can help you to manage steam times for different foods.
- Assemble the bracket securely to ensure excess steam does not escape.

Cleaning and Maintenance

You will need to both clean and descale your Food Steamer frequently. You should clean the parts of the machine (Rice Steaming Bowl, Lid, Steamer Baskets and Drip Tray) after each use. Times between descaling will differ depending on the hardness of your water.

Note: You can reduce the amount you need to descale the steamer by using distilled or filtered water

  • Before cleaning, unplug the steamer and leave to cool completely.
  • Do not immerse the main base unit in water or any other liquids, nor rinse under the tap. Use a damp, well rung, soft cloth to clean these parts.
  • Never use scouring pads, abrasive cleaning agents, or aggressive liquids such as alcohol, gasoline, or acetone to clean the appliance.
  • Cleaning of the appliance, its parts, and accessories is easiest immediately after use.
    • After each use, disassemble the steamer and clean the removable components thoroughly.
  • Wash the Rice Steaming Bowl, Lid, Steamer Baskets and Drip Tray in warm, soapy water and dry them well. Alternatively you can wash these parts in the dishwasher.
  • Do not forget to clean the water storage tank as food residue and juices collect at the bottom.

Descaling:

  1. Fill the Water Tank with white vinegar to full scale.
  2. Connect power then steam for 20-25 minutes.
  3. Unplug the steamer and leave to cool. Once cool, pour out the vinegar.
  4. Wash the steamer base and parts with cold water.
