Frequently Asked Questions - H4Xi 3-12x56 Steiner

How do I mount the Steiner H4Xi 3-12x56 on my rifle?
Use a quality 30 mm scope rings or a one-piece mount. Ensure the scope is level and the reticle is perpendicular to the rifle axis. Tighten rings to manufacturer's torque specifications (typically 15-20 in-lbs).
How do I zero the riflescope?
Place the rifle on a stable rest. At a known distance (e.g., 100 m), fire a group and adjust the windage/elevation turrets. Each click corresponds to 0.25 MOA. Turn the turret in the direction you want the point of impact to move.
How do I change the battery for the illuminated reticle?
Locate the battery compartment on the saddle of the scope (usually near the turret housing). Unscrew the cap, remove the old CR2032 battery, and insert a new one with the positive side facing up. Reattach the cap securely.
How can I clean the lenses properly?
Use a lens brush to remove dust, then apply a small amount of lens cleaning solution to a microfiber cloth. Wipe gently in circular motion from the center outward. Avoid using paper towels or rough materials.
What does the H4Xi reticle look like?
The H4Xi reticle is a crosshair with a center dot, designed for precision shooting. It is illuminated and available in different versions (e.g., with or without markings). Refer to the manual for exact reticle drawing.
Is the scope waterproof? Can I use it in rain?
Yes, the Steiner H4Xi is waterproof rated IPX7, meaning it can withstand immersion in 1 m of water for 30 minutes. It is safe to use in heavy rain.
What is the parallax setting? Do I need to adjust it?
The H4Xi 3-12x56 has a fixed parallax set at 100 m (or 91.4 m). For most hunting and target shooting at typical distances, this works well. No adjustment is necessary.
How do I use the sunshade included with the scope?
Screw the sunshade onto the objective lens end of the scope. It helps reduce glare and lens flare in bright conditions, especially when the sun is low.
What should I do if the reticle illumination does not turn on?
First, check the battery orientation and replace it if needed. Ensure the illumination dial is turned to a setting (usually 1-11). If still not working, inspect the battery contacts for corrosion. Contact Steiner customer service if the issue persists.
Can I use this scope for air rifles or crossbows?
The Steiner H4Xi is designed for centerfire rifles. For air rifles or crossbows, check the scope's recoil rating. This scope may withstand moderate recoil, but it is not recommended for heavy air rifles without a specific warranty.

INTRODUCTION

Steiner is one of the largest manufacturers of high-quality optics in the world. Steiner products represent the highest level of precision and technology.

Your H4Xi riflescope is proudly designed, machined and assembled in the USA for big game hunters who demand the best.

This manual outlines the basic operation and maintenance of the scope.

Zoom adjustment Windage and height adjustment of the reticle Ocular Diopter adjustment Parallax adjustment (4-16x56 model only) Illumination knob Objective

EYEPIECE FOCUSING AND MAGNIFICATION ADJUSTMENT

The ocular should be focused such that the reticle appears sharp and black. Follow these two steps for quick and easy adjustment:

1 Point the riflescope at a bright surface (e.g. wall) and glance through the riflescope. If the reticle appears already sharp and black, no further adjustment is required.
2 If this is not the case, turn the diopter adjustment, until the reticle is sharp and clear.

For distances less than 100 yards, we recommend the lowest magnification to avoid problems with focusing on the image instead of the reticle. To turn the ring to the left. To lower the magnification, turn the ring to the right.

WINDAGE AND ELEVATION ADJUSTMENT

The windage and height adjustment for precise reticle calibration is located behind the protective covers. The reticle adjustments are calibrated so that 1 click corresponds to 1/4-inch/100 yards. The windage adjustment is located on the right side of the riflescope and the elevation adjustment on the top. Turn clockwise (marked "UP") to move the impact point upwards. Turn counterclockwise (marked "DN") to move it downwards. The windage adjustment operates the same. The individual clicks can be felt and heard.

Warning

Never use the riflescope to look at the sun or other bright light sources! This will damage your eyes!

ILLUMINATION CONTROL

The H4Xi scopes feature an illuminated reticle that makes it easier to see the reticle in low light. The rotary illumination dial, located on the left side of the adjustment turret, controls the intensity of the illumination. The switch has 11 intensity levels and a "battery saver" position in between

each level that turns off the illumination completely to prevent battery drain. Each level also has a detent to prevent unintended changes during use.

Reticle illumination is powered by a 3-volt CR 2032 battery. The battery is located in the illumination knob and can be accessed by unscrewing the cover. To insert a new battery, screw the battery compartment open on the left side. Press on one side of the battery to lift and remove. Install the new battery with the flat side (+) up. If you are planning on not using the riflescope for an extended period, it is advisable to remove the battery.

PARALLAX/FOCUS ADJUSTMENT

The H4Xi 4-16x56 model includes a parallax adjustment from 54 yards to infinity. Parallax is the apparent movement of the reticle in relation to the target when the eye is not directly in line behind the center of the riflescope. The 3-12x56 model has parallel fixed at 100 yards. Parallax is only required at higher magnifications. To adjust the parallax, rotate the adjusting ring on the left side of the riflescope to the known target distance. If the distance is unknown, rotate the adjusting ring, until the target image is sharply focused. When the riflescope is adjusted

parallax free for the distance you are viewing, you should be able to move your eye side-to-side or up and down without seeing the reticle move relative to the target.

Steiner H4Xi 3-12x56 - NOTE - 1

MOUNTING THE RIFLESCOPE

Quality components ensure that your scope will remain safely and securely mounted, while providing maximum accuracy. Both models require 30mm rings. Steiner recommends using high-quality rings and bases.

Read the manufacturer's directions regarding the installation of mounts and rings.

WARNING! Make sure your firearm is unloaded before attempting to mount the scope on your firearm. Practice safe firearms handling at all times.

CARE AND MAINTENANCE

Your H4Xi riflescope is fully waterproof and fog-proof due to its nitrogen filling. In the event that the lenses are subjected to dust, dirt, or mud, follow the following steps: Coarse dirt must be removed from the lens first to avoid damage to the lens coating. Position the riflescope such that particles can fall away from the lens and use a soft brush to gently whisk away debris/dirt, while blowing on the lens to dislodge the particles. For heavy dirt, such as dried mud, you can spray the lens with clean water or lens cleaning fluid to remove the dirt. Your Steiner riflescope will provide years of reliable performance given regular cleaning and care. All moving parts are permanently lubricated. Only the surface of the riflescope and the exterior lenses require occasional cleaning. Never disassemble your riflescope.

Disassembly will void the warranty. Protective objective and ocular covers are included as accessories.
