Sunbeam's Total Safety System

Safety auto shut off

Your Sunbeam Compact Oscillating Ceramic heater is equipped with a safety system that detects any abnormally high temperatures within the heater and automatically shuts it off to prevent overheating. If the heater is getting excessively hot, an alarm will sound.

Do not operate the heater with the alarm sounding. Immediately turn the heater off at the power outlet and check that there aren't any objects on or around the heater.

This first stage of the safety system requires the user to manually reset the heater for it to resume operation.

For instructions on how to reset your heater, see page 7.

Thermal back-up device

In addition to this automatic shut-off, your heater contains an over temperature thermal back-up device to provide additional back-up protection. If the heater is in an overheat situation, the back-up device will operate, stopping the power flow to the element and fan.

In the event that the back-up device is activated, the heater will need to be reset. For instructions on how to reset your heater, see page 7.

Instant tip over cut out

The instant tip over cut out interrupts the power to the heating element and fan if the heater is accidentally tipped over. The heater will not resume operation until it is replaced in the upright position.

Thermostat dial

When in auto mode, turn the thermostat dial to select your desired temperature.

Ceramic element

The 1800 watt ceramic element is more efficient than other element types as it converts more electricity into heat.

Ceramic elements are also safer than other element types. They do not glow and operate at such low temperatures that they will not ignite even highly flammable materials such as tissue paper.

Using your Compact Oscillating Ceramic Heater

  1. Place the heater on a flat level surface and ensure that the air intake and outlet are clear of obstructions.
  2. Insert the plug into a 230/240V power outlet and turn the power on.
  3. The power on light and LCD screen will illuminate.

NOTE: When the heater is switched on it will be automatically set to the Standby mode.

  1. Press the mode button to select the desired setting, as follows. Each time you press the mode button it will scroll through the various settings.
LOW – low heat setting
HIGH – high heat setting
AUTO – for operating the electronic thermostat
FAN – for fan only operation without heat
STANDBY – the heater remains inactive when in this mode

NOTE: The fan speed will not change when the mode is changed from low to high.

  1. To switch the heater off, press the mode button until the standby mode is set and switch the power off at the power outlet.

Setting the electronic thermostat

The electronic thermostat allows you to set the precise temperature. Once the desired temperature level is reached the heater will cycle on and off to maintain it.

  1. Press the mode button until the AUTO mode is displayed. The LCD screen will display the ambient room temperature.
  2. Set the desired temperature by turning the thermostat dial. The selected temperature will appear on the LCD screen.

NOTE: The temperature range is from 15^ C to 30^ C.

  1. When the room temperature reaches the set temperature the heater will automatically turn off. The fan will continue running for 15 seconds to cool the heater. The unit will only turn on when the room temperature falls below the preset temperature.

NOTE: It is normal for the heater to cycle on and off as it maintains the preset temperature. To prevent the unit from cycling, raise the thermostat setting.

Using the Oscillation Function

The 90 degree oscillation function can be used in any mode except standby.

  1. Press the oscillation button (OSC), positioned on the top of the heater. The heater will then begin to oscillate from side to side.

  2. To stop the heater from oscillating, simply press the oscillation button (OSC) once again.

Resetting the Total Safety System

Resetting the safety auto shut-off

The safety auto shut-off detects any abnormally high temperatures within the heater and shuts it off to prevent overheating. Should the safety auto shut-off activate and switch off the heater, it will need to be reset.

  1. To reset the heater, press the mode button until the standby mode is selected.
  2. Unplug the heater and wait 10 minutes for the unit to cool down.
  3. After 10 minutes, plug the heater in again and operate as usual.

Resetting the thermal backup device

In addition to the safety auto shut-off, your heater also contains a thermal back-up device for additional protection. Should the thermal back-up device activate and switch off the heater it will need to be reset.

  • The safety auto shut-off may have activated, so follow the instructions for resetting on page 7.

Care and Cleaning

Ensure that the heater is switched off and disconnected from the power outlet before cleaning.

Carefully wipe the exterior of the heater with a soft damp cloth and dry thoroughly with a dry cloth.

Over time, dust may accumulate on the front grilles. This can be removed by wiping with a damp cloth.

Store the heater in a cool dry place when not in use. Store the heater in its carton if possible.
