Battery Grip BG-R10

BG-R10 is a battery grip for EOS cameras.

Make sure you read this guide before using the product.

Store this guide safely so that you can use it in the future.

For detailed instructions and precautions, refer to the Advanced Guide (online manual) for the camera in use.

■ Attaching to the Camera

  1. Detach contact covers (1) and (2) (Fig. 1-1).
  2. Attach contact cover (1) to (2) to store it (Fig. 1-2).
  3. Remove the battery pack from the camera (Fig.2-1).
  4. Detach the camera's battery compartment cover (Fig.2-2).
  5. Attach the removed battery compartment cover to the battery grip.

  6. Insert the hinge part of the battery compartment cover to the battery grip (Fig. 3-1).

  7. Press on the battery compartment cover to fix it in place (Fig. 3-2).
  8. To detach the battery compartment cover, slide the battery compartment cover release lever to unlock it (Fig. 3-3), and then detach the cover by performing the attaching procedure in reverse.

  9. Insert the battery grip into the camera's battery compartment (Fig.4-1).

  10. Align the attachment screw with the camera's tripod socket, and then turn the attach/ detach dial to tighten it securely to the camera (Fig. 4-2).

Equipped with buttons and dials for vertical shooting, Battery Grip BG-R10 is an optional camera accessory that can power the camera with two batteries.

1. Remove the contact covers.

2. Remove the battery compartment cover.

- Attach the cover to the battery grip.

Caution

  • When reattaching the battery compartment cover to the camera, attach it opened to at least 90^ .
  • Do not touch the camera or battery grip contacts.

Attaching Batteries

1. Attach the batteries.

Insert the batteries as shown.

When only one battery is used, it can be inserted in either position.

To secure the batteries, push in the direction of the arrows until they click into place.

To remove the batteries, press the battery magazine lever in the direction of the arrow.

- Insert the battery magazine all the way in to secure it.

Caution

  • When attaching batteries, make sure the electrical contacts are clean. Wipe off any dirt on the contacts with a soft cloth.
  • Attach batteries after attaching the battery grip to the camera. If the battery grip is attached to the camera with batteries already attached, it may prevent correct display of battery check results.
    Before removing the battery grip, turn the camera off and remove the batteries.
  • Reattach the protective covers for the camera and battery grip contacts after removing the battery grip. If the battery grip will not be used for some time, remove the batteries.
  • If a battery communication error message is displayed when a battery grip is attached, follow the instructions in the message. If the camera loses power, reinstall the battery magazine and restart the camera.

Pass the DC coupler cord through the battery magazine cord groove.
- Insert the battery magazine all the way in to secure it.

• Guide the end of the cord out of the cord hole.

3. Connect the DC coupler to the AC adapter.

- Fully insert the DC coupler plug into the socket of AC Adapter AC-E6N (sold separately).

4. Connect the power cord.

- Connect the power cord to the AC adapter and insert the power plug into a power outlet.

Caution

  • While the camera is on, do not connect or disconnect the power cord or socket, and do not remove the battery magazine.
  • Avoid getting the DC coupler cord caught between the battery grip and battery magazine.

To use the buttons and dials, turn the vertical-grip on/off switch (4) to ON.
- The buttons and dials are used the same way as corresponding buttons and dials on the camera.

Using USB Power Adapter PD-E1, you can charge Battery Pack LP-E6NH or LP-E6N without removing it from the battery grip. The camera can also be powered.

CANON BG-R10 - Caution - 4

Caution

LP-E6NH and LP-E6N can be charged together.
- Otherwise, you can charge a single LP-E6NH or LP-E6N battery at a time.
- LP-E6 cannot be charged this way. No battery will be charged if LP-E6NH or LP-E6N is attached at the same time as LP-E6.
The battery is not charged if LP-E6NH or LP-E6N is loaded when DC Coupler DR-E6 is connected.
Charging stops if you operate the camera.
- When batteries are depleted, the adapter charges them. In this case, power is not supplied to the camera.

Charging

1. Connect the USB power adapter.

- With the camera power switch set to < > , insert the USB power adapter plug fully into the camera's digital terminal.

2. Charge the battery.

CHARGE

  • Connect the power cord to the USB power adapter and plug the other end into a power outlet.
    ● Charging begins, and the charge lamp lights up.
  • [1] is displayed on the LCD panel.
  • When charging is finished, the charge lamp turns off.

Supplying power

To power the camera without charging batteries, set the camera power switch to < >.

Caution

  • To protect the battery pack and keep it in optimal condition, do not charge it continuously for more than 24 hours.
  • If the charging lamp fails to light up or a problem occurs during charging (shown by the charge lamp blinking), unplug the power cord, reinsert the battery, and wait a few minutes before plugging it in again. If the problem persists, take the camera to the nearest Canon Service Center.
  • The charging time required and the amount charged vary depending on ambient temperature and remaining capacity.
  • For safety, charging in low temperatures takes longer.
  • The remaining battery level may decline when power is supplied to the camera. To avoid running out of battery power, use a fully charged battery when shooting at regular intervals.

CANON Imaging Products and Accessories Limited Warranty – For U.S.A. & Canada Only

The limited warranty set forth below is given by Canon U.S.A., Inc. (Canon U.S.A.) in the United States or Canon Canada Inc. (Canon Canada) in Canada with respect to the Canon Imaging Products (see List A on Warranty Card), as well as with respect to the accessories packaged with this limited warranty (collectively the "Products")*, when purchased and used in the United States or Canada. The Products are the only Products to which this limited warranty applies.

Your Products, when delivered to you in new condition in its original container, are warranted against defects in materials or workmanship as follows: for a period of one (1) year from the date of original purchase, defective parts or defective Products returned to Canon U.S.A. or Canon Canada, or their authorized Products service providers, as applicable, and proven to be defective upon inspection, will be repaired with new or comparable rebuilt parts or exchanged for refurbished Products, as determined by Canon U.S.A. or Canon Canada, or the authorized Products service provider.

THIS WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER ANY ACCESSORIES NOT MENTIONED ABOVE. This limited warranty shall only apply if the Products are used in conjunction with compatible computer equipment and compatible software, as to which items Canon U.S.A. or Canon Canada shall have no responsibility.

Non-Canon brand equipment and software that may be distributed with the Products are sold "as is" and without warranty of any kind by Canon U.S.A. or Canon Canada, including any implied warranty regarding merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose, and all such warranties are disclaimed. When you call, have your Products serial numbers and your date of purchase available to expedite service. A Canon Customer Care representative will attempt to diagnose the nature of the problem and correct it over the telephone. If the problem cannot be corrected over the telephone, you will be asked to follow the applicable procedures for MAIL-IN SERVICE. Note that a dated proof of purchase is required at the time of service. This requirement will be satisfied by providing a copy of your dated bill of sale.

MAIL-IN SERVICE

MAIL-IN SERVICE is a program under which your Products are repaired by a Canon U.S.A. or a Canon Canada authorized Products service provider. You will be given the name, address and phone number of an authorized Products service provider, by contacting 1-800-OK-CANON (1-800-652-2666) (Canon U.S.A. Customer Care representative / Canon Canada Customer Care representative). It is your responsibility to properly package and send the defective Products, together with a copy of your dated proof of purchase, a complete explanation of the problem and a return address to the authorized Products service provider at your expense. Do not include any other items with the defective Products. The defective Products covered by this limited warranty will be repaired and returned to you without charge by the authorized Products service provider. Any Products received by the authorized Products service provider that are not covered by the limited warranty will be returned unrepaired, or at the discretion of the authorized Products service provider, you may receive a written estimate of repair at such cost as the service provider may establish from time to time.

This limited warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights, which vary from state to state (or province to province in Canada).

CANON MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY FOR CANON CONSUMER IMAGING PRODUCTS (applies to purchases made on or after 1 February 2019)

This warranty applies to the Canon consumer product categories listed below (Products) purchased in Australia or New Zealand from Canon Australia Pty Ltd or Canon New Zealand Ltd (Canon) or their respective authorised distributors, dealers or retailers.

Canon-branded products purchased from other sources (including 'grey', 'parallel' or 'direct' imports) are not covered by this warranty. They may come with a different warranty offered by the retailer or relevant sales company based in another country.

You will need proof of purchase to make a warranty claim so please keep your receipt and this warranty card safe. You can also register your product on our website as a record of your purchase.

CONSUMER GUARANTEES

You may have rights under applicable Australia & New Zealand consumer laws.

For goods supplied in Australia only: Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure and for compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. You are also entitled to have the goods repaired or replaced if the goods fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure.

For goods supplied in New Zealand only: This warranty applies in addition to your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993. More information on the Consumer Guarantees Act is available from Consumer Affairs.

CANON MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY

In addition to your consumer rights, Canon offers the following manufacturer's warranty:

  1. With normal use and service, during the Warranty Period stated below, Canon warrants the Products will be free from defects arising wholly or substantially from faulty parts, manufacture or workmanship:

  1. Canon's warranty does not apply where damage is caused by external factors including:

a. normal wear and tear;
b. damage caused outside Canon's control including accidents, electrical faults, power surges, internet connection fault, vandalism or burglary;
c. your negligent or improper use of the Products including failing to follow operating instructions or providing an unsuitable environment;
d. leaking batteries;
e. liquid exposure (except for waterproof Products) or infiltration of foreign particles;
f. repairs or modification of the Products except by Canon or its authorised service agents;
g. using unsuitable ink or toner or other materials in the Products;
h. using any other consumables, accessories, supplies, parts or devices (including batteries, tapes/cards, lenses and flash attachments) not conforming to Canon's specifications; or
i. shipping or other transit.

  1. Subject to your consumer rights, Canon excludes all liability in respect of the Product for any loss that is not reasonably foreseeable from a failure of the Product including liability for negligence, loss of your data, loss or damage to third party software, loss of expenditure associated with the Product, losses incurred while the Product is being repaired or during transit to or from Canon, or loss of enjoyment.

  2. This warranty is not transferable.

MAKING A WARRANTY CLAIM

The process for making claims differs by Product as described below. We may ask you for a written description of the problem, images or other relevant material. We may try to troubleshoot and resolve the problem with you first. Remember, please have your proof of purchase ready.

Projectors purchased in Australia

To make a claim, call Canon as soon as possible on 1300 799 604.

If Canon accepts your warranty claim, we will collect the Product to repair or replace any faulty parts or rectify any faulty workmanship at our cost but any costs to unmount it and/or securely and safely package it for delivery to Canon is at your cost (subject to consumer law rights).

All other Products

To make a claim, call Canon or our authorised service agents as soon as possible on 13 13 83 (Australia) or 0800 222 666 (New Zealand), submit a request at www.canon.com.au/en-AU/Personal/Support-Help (Australia) or visit www.canon.com.au/warranty (Australia) or www.canon.co.nz/warranty (New Zealand).

If we need to examine the Product then, except as otherwise required by consumer law, you must pay for all packing, freight and insurance costs to ship the Product to Canon or our authorised service agent.

If Canon accepts your warranty claim, we will (at our cost and subject to consumer law rights) repair or replace any faulty parts or rectify any faulty workmanship, either perform the work on-site or return the Product to you.

If your warranty claim is not accepted, Canon or our authorised service agents may still be able to resolve your problem, where service is charged at our standard rates (only with your prior approval) and either perform the work on-site or deliver the Products for repair at your cost.
