What should I do if the flat beater hits the bowl?

Stop the mixer and adjust the beater-to-bowl clearance. Turn the screw on the motor head slightly counterclockwise to raise the beater or clockwise to lower it until it just clears the bowl surface. Refer to the 'Beater to Bowl Clearance' section in the manual.

Can I wash the wire whip in the dishwasher?

No, for model 5K45SSBOB, the wire whip is not dishwasher-safe. Wash it thoroughly in hot sudsy water and rinse completely before drying. Do not store it on the shaft.

What is the maximum speed for kneading yeast dough?

Do not exceed speed 2 when preparing yeast doughs to avoid damaging the mixer. Use the dough hook at speed 2.

The mixer emits a pungent odor. Is that normal?

Yes, it is common with electric motors, especially when new. If the odor persists or worsens, contact KitchenAid service.

How do I attach the bowl?

Turn off and unplug the mixer. Unlock and lift the motor head (it locks automatically). Place the bowl on the clamping plate and turn clockwise (right) until it locks.

What does the speed control lever do?

It adjusts the mixing speed from 1 (stir) to 10 (fast whipping). You can also set intermediate speeds (3,5,7,9) by positioning the lever between marked settings.

Can I use an extension cord?

No, do not use an extension cord. Plug the mixer directly into an earthed outlet. If the cord is too short, have a qualified electrician install an outlet near the appliance.

How do I clean the mixer?

Unplug and wipe the motor head with a soft damp cloth. Do not immerse in water. Wash removable parts (bowl, flat beater, dough hook, pouring shield) in the dishwasher top rack or in hot soapy water. The wire whip must be hand washed.

What is the warranty period?

For the 5K45 series, it is a 2-year full guarantee from the date of purchase. For models 5KSM125-200 series, it is 5 years.

The mixer stopped working. What should I check?

Check if it is plugged in and the circuit breaker is not tripped. Turn the mixer off for 10-15 seconds, then restart. If it still doesn't work, let it cool for 30 minutes. If the problem persists, contact KitchenAid service.

1. To attach Bowl: Turn speed control to off (0). Unplug Stand Mixer.

1. Slip accessory onto Beater Shaft and press upward as far as possible. Then, turn accessory to the right, hooking accessory over the pin on the shaft.

1. To remove accessory: Repeat steps 1 and 2. Press accessory upward as far as possible and turn to the left. Then pull accessory from the Beater Shaft.

BEATER TO BOWL CLEARANCE

Your Stand Mixer is adjusted at the factory so the Flat Beater * just clears the bottom of the Bowl. If, for any reason, the Flat Beater * hits the bottom of the Bowl or is too far away from the Bowl, you can correct clearance easily.

1. Turn speed control to off (0). Unplug Stand Mixer.

1. Lift Motor Head. Turn screw slightly counterclockwise (left) to raise Flat Beater* or clockwise (right) to lower Flat Beater*. Make adjustment with Flat Beater *, so it just clears surface of Bowl. If you overadjust the screw, the Locking Lever may not lock into place.

NOTE: When properly adjusted, the Flat Beater* will not strike on the bottom or side of the Bowl. If the Flat Beater* or the Wire Whip is so close that it strikes the bottom of the Bowl, coating may wear off the beater or wires on whip may wear.

CARE AND CLEANING

IMPORTANT: Allow the appliance to cool completely before putting on or taking off parts, and before cleaning the appliance.

1. Always be sure to unplug Stand Mixer before cleaning. Wipe Stand Mixer with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use household/commercial cleaners. Wipe off Beater Shaft frequently, removing any residue that may accumulate. Do not immerse in water.

PROBLEM SOLUTION
If Stand Mixer warms up during use	Heavy loads should not exceed speed 2. Under heavy loads with extended mixing time periods, you may not be able to comfortably touch the top of the unit. This is normal.
If Stand Mixer emits a pungent odour	This is common with electric motors, especially when new.
If the Flat Beater hits the Bowl	Stop the Stand Mixer. See the “Beater to Bowl Clearance” section and adjust the beater to Bowl clearance.
If your Stand Mixer should fail to operate, please check the following	Is the Stand Mixer plugged in?
	Is the fuse in the circuit to the Stand Mixer in working order? If you have a circuit breaker box, be sure the circuit is closed.
	Turn off the Stand Mixer for 10-15 seconds, then turn it back on. If the Stand Mixer still does not start, allow it to cool for 30 minutes before turning it back on.
If the problem cannot be corrected	See the “Terms of KitchenAid Guarantee (“Guarantee”)” section. Do not return the Stand Mixer to the retailer; retailers do not provide service.

g) The costs of repair, including spare parts, and any postage costs (if applicable) for the delivery of a defect-free product or product part shall be borne by the Guarantor. The Guarantor shall also bear the postage costs for returning the defective product or product part if the Guarantor or the country specific KitchenAid customer service centre requested the return of the defective product or product part. However, the consumer shall bear the costs of appropriate packaging for the return of the defective product or product part.
h) To be able to make a claim under the Guarantee, the consumer must present the receipt or invoice of the purchase of the product.

2. LIMITATIONS OF THE GUARANTEE

a) The Guarantee applies only to products used for private purposes and not for professional or commercial purposes.
b) The Guarantee does not apply in the case of normal wear and tear, improper or abusive use, failure to follow the instructions for use, use of the product at the wrong electrical voltage, installation and operation in violation of the applicable electrical regulations, and use of force (e.g. blows).
