Frequently Asked Questions - 1731DD JUNG

What types of loads can this dimmer control?
The JUNG 1731DD dimmer can control dimmable LED lamps, compact fluorescent lamps, incandescent lamps, and halogen lamps (with electronic or inductive transformers). It works with both leading edge and trailing edge phase control, and can automatically adapt to the load in universal mode.
How do I set the minimum brightness?
Ensure the load is off. Press and hold the Dimm-Mode button until the LED lights up, then briefly press repeatedly to select the operating mode. Once the mode is set, press and hold the Dimm-Mode button for more than 1 second. The light turns on at lowest brightness and slowly increases. Release the button when the desired minimum brightness is reached. Save by pressing briefly or waiting 30 seconds.
Can I use this dimmer without a neutral conductor?
Yes, the dimmer can operate without a neutral conductor. However, the minimum load must be at least 50 W (except for HV-LED and compact fluorescent lamps). For optimal performance, connecting a neutral conductor is recommended if available.
How do I save the switch-on brightness?
Adjust the brightness to the desired level, then press the setting knob for longer than 4 seconds. The light will briefly switch off and on again to confirm. To delete the saved brightness, press the knob again for longer than 4 seconds while the light is on at the saved brightness; the next switch-on will use the last set brightness.
What does the hotel card function do?
The hotel card function allows the dimmer to automatically turn on the light with the saved switch-on brightness when mains voltage is restored (e.g., when a hotel card is inserted). It is available only in LED trailing edge or LED leading edge modes. To enable or disable, press and hold the rotary axle, then press the Dimm-Mode button for more than 4 seconds; the LED flashes red (on) or green (off).
Why do my LED lamps flicker or buzz?
Flickering or buzzing can be due to incompatible lamps, incorrect operating mode, or the dimmer being used without a neutral conductor. Try the following: 1) Ensure lamps are dimmable. 2) Change the operating mode (e.g., from universal to LED trailing edge). 3) Reduce the connected load. 4) If possible, connect a neutral conductor. 5) Replace lamps with a different type.
How do I reset the dimmer after short-circuit or over-temperature protection?
First, disconnect the dimmer from the mains by switching off the associated circuit breaker. Eliminate any short-circuit or reduce the connected load if over-temperature. Let the dimmer cool for at least 15 minutes. Then switch the circuit breaker back on and test the dimmer. If the problem persists, check the load or contact a skilled electrician.
Can I use multiple dimmers or extensions together?
Yes, you can connect up to 10 rotary extensions or 3-wire extensions, and an unlimited number of 2-wire push-buttons. The total line length for extensions should not exceed 100 m. For higher power loads, use power boosters as described in their instructions.
What is the maximum connected load for LED lamps?
The maximum connected load for LED lamps is typically 20-420 W, with a typical range of 3-400 W for LED lamps. For electronic transformers with LV-LED, it is 20-200 W. The exact values depend on the operating mode and ambient temperature. At 25°C, the rated load is 20-420 W for ohmic-capacitive loads.
How do I clean the dimmer?
Use only a dry or slightly damp cloth to clean the surface. Do not use any cleaning agents or abrasives as they may damage the device. Ensure the dimmer is switched off and disconnected from power before cleaning.

1 Safety instructions

JUNG 1731DD - Safety instructions - 1

Electrical devices may only be mounted and connected by electrically skilled persons.

Serious injuries, fire or property damage possible. Please read and follow manual fully.

Danger of electric shock. Device is not suitable for disconnection from supply voltage because mains potential even is applied on the load when the device is switched off. Before carrying out work on the device or load, switch off all associated circuit breakers.

Risk of destruction of the dimmer and load if the set operating mode and load type do not match. Set the correct dimming principle before connecting or exchanging the load.

Fire hazard. For operation with inductive transformers, each transformer must be fused on the primary side in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. Only safety transformers according to EN 61558-2-6 may be used.

This manual is an integral part of the product, and must remain with the end customer.

Switching the hotel card function on or off

If a hotel card is used, removing the card switches off the mains voltage, inserting the card switches it on. The hotel card function means that no separate operation of the dimmer is required. After mains voltage return the dimmer switches on the light with the saved switch-on brightness. Only the operating modes LED trailing edge phase control or LED leading edge phase control are available.

Precondition: Load is switched off.

■ Press and hold down the rotary axle (3) until the setting was made.

■ Press the Dimm-Mode button (1) for more than 4 seconds.

LED (2) flashes green or red.

■ Press button Dimm-Mode (1) briefly.

LED (2) flashes red. The hotel card function is switched on. LED (2) flashes green. The hotel card function is switched off.

■ Release the rotary axle (3).

The setting is saved. For confirmation, the light is briefly switched on and switched off again.

If the Universal operating mode was set before the hotel card function was switched on, the system automatically switches to LED trailing edge phase control or LED leading edge phase control. If the LED trailing edge phase control or LED leading edge phase control operating mode was set, it is retained. If the hotel card function is switched off, the last set operating mode is retained.
