How do I charge the battery for the first time?
Insert the supplied Li-ion battery pack (DB-L20) into the camera, then connect the AC adaptor (VAR-G8) to the camera and a power outlet. Charging begins automatically and takes approximately 90 minutes. The multi-indicator lights red during charging and turns off when charging is complete.
How do I switch between still photo and video recording modes?
Press the MENU button to display the Mode Select Screen. Toggle the SET button left or right to choose the still image shooting mode or video clip recording mode, then press MENU again to confirm.
What memory cards can I use with this camera?
You can use SD Memory Cards and Multi Media Cards. The camera also has 32 MB of internal memory for shooting without a card.
How do I use the touch focus feature?
The touch sensor is enabled by default. Simply rest your finger lightly on the shutter button to activate autofocus (focus lock). Then gently press the shutter button fully to take the picture. You can disable the touch sensor in the Shooting Setting Screen.

The maximum continuous recording time depends on the card capacity and resolution. For example, with a 1 GB card in 640H mode, you can record up to about 11 minutes 7 seconds. The camera records in QuickTime Movie format.

Set the flash mode to red-eye reduction (icon with an eye) by toggling the SET button up in still shooting mode. You can also use the red-eye correction feature during playback (page 110 of the manual).

No, the camera does not charge when it is in shooting mode. You must turn the camera off for charging to occur. However, when the AC adaptor is connected, you can use the camera in playback mode or while it is off.

GETTING UP AND RUNNING

Install the battery pack

1 Open the battery slot cover, and insert the battery pack.

- The battery slot cover is located on the bottom of the camera.

Shooting

1 Press the ON/OFF button to turn the camera on.

• The Still Image Shooting Screen appears.

2 Press the shutter button.

• The image is captured.

■Video clip recording

1 Press the ON/OFF button to turn the camera on.

2 Press the MENU button, and toggle the SET button to the right.

• The camera changes to the video clip recording mode.

3 Press the MENU button.

4 Press the shutter button.

  • Recording begins.
    • To stop recording, press the shutter button again.
  • Press the MENU button, toggle the SET button to the left, and press the MENU button. The camera changes to the still image shooting mode.

Playback

■Still image playback

1 Press the playback button [▶].

• The display switches to the Playback Screen.
• To view other images, toggle the SET button to the left or right.
- If the playback button [▶] is pressed, the display returns to the Shooting Screen.

■Video clip playback

1 Press the playback button [▶].

• The display switches to the Playback Screen.
- Toggle the SET button to the left or right to display the video clip you wish to play back.
• Video clips are indicated by a video clip pattern along the top and bottom of the screen.

2 Press the SET button.

  • Playback of the selected video clip begins.
  • If the playback button [▶] is pressed again, the display changes to the Shooting Screen.
