Frequently Asked Questions - NUC 7 Business INTEL

Can I upgrade the memory on the Intel NUC 7 Business?
Yes, the NUC7i3DNHNC has two DDR4 SO-DIMM slots. It comes with one 4GB module, and you can upgrade to a maximum of 32GB using 1.2V low-voltage, 2133 MHz, non-ECC memory modules. Refer to the Intel Product Compatibility Tool for compatible modules.
How do I install an M.2 SSD?
Remove the bottom cover, locate the M.2 connector. Remove the screw from the standoff (80mm or 42mm). Insert the M.2 SSD at a 45-degree angle, then press down and secure with the screw. Ensure the notch aligns with the key. Compatible drives include SATA and PCIe NVMe.
What type of storage drives are supported?
The NUC 7 Business supports a 2.5-inch SATA SSD or HDD (pre-installed with 1TB HDD) and an M.2 SSD (80mm or 42mm) in the M.2 slot. Use the Intel Product Compatibility Tool to verify compatibility.
How do I perform a factory reset?
If Windows starts, go to Settings > Update & Security > Recovery and choose 'Reset this PC'. If Windows doesn't start, press F8 during boot to enter recovery mode. You can refresh (keep files), reset (remove everything), or restore to a previous point. Always back up data first.
Does the NUC 7 Business come with a power cord?
It depends on the product code: BOXNUC7i3DNHNC includes no power cord (purchased separately), others (e.g., 1 for US, 2 for EU) include a region-specific cord. The adapter uses a C5 connector.
Can I mount the NUC behind a monitor?
Yes, the package includes a VESA mount bracket. Attach the bracket to the back of the monitor using small screws, then attach two larger screws to the NUC bottom and slide it onto the bracket.
How do I update drivers?
Use the Intel Driver & Support Assistant (Intel DSA) to automatically detect outdated drivers. Alternatively, manually download drivers from Intel's Download Center for chipset, graphics, wireless, Bluetooth, Ethernet, etc.
What are the safety precautions before opening the NUC?
Disconnect the computer from power and networks. Use an ESD workstation (antistatic wrist strap and conductive foam). Avoid touching sharp pins, edges, and hot components. Work in a static-safe area.
Can I use Intel Optane Memory?
Yes, the M.2 slot supports Intel Optane Memory modules. Before removing an Optane module, you must disable it via the Intel Optane Memory software. Refer to 'Removing Intel Optane Memory' in the manual.
How do I replace the 2.5-inch drive?
Remove the bottom cover, unscrew the four screws holding the drive bay, slide out the old drive. Insert the new 2.5-inch drive (SATA) ensuring the connectors align, then secure with the screws and close the chassis.

User Guide

Before You Begin

INTEL NUC 7 Business - Before You Begin - 1

CAUTIONS

The steps in this guide assume you're familiar with computer terminology and with the safety practices and regulatory compliance required for using and modifying computer equipment.

Disconnect the computer from its power source and from any network before performing any of the steps described in this guide.

Failure to disconnect power or networks before you open the computer or perform any procedures can result in personal injury and/or equipment damage. Some circuitry on the board can continue to operate even though the front panel power button is off.

Follow these guidelines before you begin:

• Always follow the steps in each procedure in the correct order.
- Create a log to record information about your computer, such as model, serial numbers, installed options, and configuration information.
- Electrostatic discharge (ESD) can damage components. Perform the procedures described in this chapter only at an ESD workstation using an antistatic wrist strap and a conductive foam pad. If such a station isn't available, you can provide some ESD protection by wearing an antistatic wrist strap and attaching it to a metal part of the computer chassis.

Installation Precautions

When you install and test the Intel NUC, observe all warnings and cautions in the installation instructions.

To avoid injury, be careful of:

  • Sharp pins on connectors
  • Sharp pins on circuit boards
  • Rough edges and sharp corners on the chassis
    • Hot components (such as SSDs, processors, voltage regulators, and heat sinks)
    • Damage to wires that could cause a short circuit

Observe Safety and Regulatory Requirements

If you don't follow these instructions, you increase your safety risk and the possibility of noncompliance with regional laws and regulations.

This guide tells you how to:

• Upgrade memory (RAM)
• Change/install an M.2 SSD
• Change/install a 2.5-inch drive
• Use a VESA mount bracket
- Connect power
• Set up Microsoft® Windows® 10
• Install the latest device drivers and software
• Recover the operating system

Open the Chassis

Unscrew the four corner screws on the bottom of the chassis and lift the cover.

Upgrade System Memory

The Intel NUC Kits NUC7i3DNHNC have two 260-pin DDR4 SO-DIMM sockets, pre-installed with one 4GB DDR4 2133 MHz SO-DIMM.

To upgrade memory, be sure to select memory modules that meet these requirements:

• 1.2V low voltage memory
• 2133 MHz SO-DIMMs
- Non-ECC

Find compatible memory modules in the Intel® Product Compatibility Tool.

NOTE If you plan to install only one memory module, install it in the lower memory socket.

To upgrade or add memory, follow these steps:

  1. Observe the precautions in "Before You Begin" on page 2.
  2. Turn off all peripheral devices connected to the computer. Turn off the computer and disconnect the power cord.
  3. Remove the computer's bottom chassis cover.

Upgrade to different memory

a. Remove the pre-installed memory module

i. Gently spread the retaining clips at each end of the memory socket, which causes the module to pop out of the socket (C).

ii. Holding the module by the edges, lift it away from the socket, and store it in an anti-static package.

b. Install the new memory module

i. Align the small space at the bottom edge of the memory module with the key in the socket.

ii. Insert the bottom edge of the module at a 45 degree angle into the socket (A).

iii. When the module is inserted, push down on the outer edges of the module until the retaining clips snap into place (B). Make sure the clips are firmly in place (C).
