How do I reset the Seiko ER2100?
Press the RESET button on the front of the unit. This should be done after battery replacement or if the unit fails to operate properly. Note that resetting clears the Easy Learn memory.
How do I change the battery in the ER2100?
Turn the unit off, remove the screw and battery cover on the back, take out the old CR2032 battery, insert a new one with the + side up, replace the cover and screw, then press the RESET button.
How do I use the Spellchecker?
Press SPELL, type the word, and press ENTER. If correct, it will show 'Correctly spelt'; if incorrect, it displays a correction list. You can use ? for a single unknown letter or * for multiple unknown letters.
How do I look up synonyms in the Thesaurus?
Press THES, type a word, and press ENTER. The unit shows synonym groups by part of speech and meaning. Press to see more groups, ENTER to see example sentences and core synonyms.
How do I use the Anagram Solver?
Press SOLV, select Anagram, type letters (e.g., 'rail'), and press ENTER. The unit displays all anagrams. Use to scroll through the list.
How do I use the Crossword Solver?
Press SOLV, select Crossword, type the pattern using ? for single unknown letters and * for multiple (up to two *), then press ENTER. The unit shows matching words.
How do I add words to the Easy Learn list?
When a word is underlined on the screen (e.g., in Spellchecker results), press LEARN to add it. The unit stores up to 100 words of 3–12 letters. Duplicates are rejected.
How do I convert currency or units?
Press CALC, then use to select Converter (Money, Metric, or Clothing). For currency, you can enter an exchange rate first. Follow the on-screen prompts to convert amounts.
How do I adjust the contrast?
Press SET, select LCD Contrast, press ENTER, then use or to adjust from Level 1 to 16 (default 10). Press ENTER to save.
What are the game levels and how do I change them?
The unit has three game levels: Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced. Press SET, select Game Level, press ENTER, choose the level, and press ENTER again.

Functions and Features

1 Thesaurus

You can find synonyms for the word you enter.

When the word you enter has more than one meaning, the unit will group the synonyms according to part of speech and meaning.

The unit offers a high speed search of over 4 million synonym links.

The thesaurus entries, including examples, sense groupings, and all alternative and opposite words, are taken from the latest edition of the Concise Oxford Thesaurus.

2 Spellchecker

Instant phonetic spelling correction for over 130,000 words ensures you will always have the answer at your fingertips.

You can search for a word using wildcards (“?” and “*”) if you are uncertain of the spelling.

3 Solvers

Anagram Solver / Look for new words using the same letters as the word or letters you have entered.

Crossword Solver / Look for the right word by entering letters you know along with question marks for any letters you don't know.

The Crossword Solver database is 200,000 words from Oxford University Press.

Preparation for using the Unit

1. Resetting

Before using the unit, press the "RESET" button on the front of the unit.

The contrast adjustment display will appear. (See page 9.)

ALWAYS press the "RESET" button on the front of the unit after battery replacement or if the unit fails to operate properly.

NOTE: Pressing the "RESET" button will clear the Easy Learn Memory.

2. Contrast Adjustment

  1. After resetting, the contrast adjustment display will appear.

  2. You can use either ▼ or ▶ to adjust the contrast of the display Level 1 to Level 16. (Initial setting = 10)

3 Press ENTER to finish. The display will enter the Thesaurus mode.

* If you want to adjust the contrast of the display again, press SET. Select "LCD Contrast" by using ▼ or ▲. (See page 63.)

3. Demo Function

When you turn on the power, a demonstration display will begin to explain the contents of the unit.

* You can stop the demonstration by pressing any of the keys.

● Changing the Battery

The battery needs to be changed as soon as the display becomes dim. Make sure that the power is switched off before replacing the battery.

  1. Turn the unit OFF.
  2. Remove the screw and the battery cover from the back of the unit.
  3. Remove the old battery.
  4. Insert the new (CR2032) battery with the “+” side facing up.
  5. Replace the battery cover and the screw.
  6. Press the "RESET" button.

CAUTION

  • The battery may pose a choking hazard to small children.
  • Keep the battery and product away from small children.
  • Do not expose the battery to open flame or intense heat.

Resetting:

If the unit does not operate properly after the battery has been replaced, or if at any time the unit fails to operate properly, gently press the “RESET” button.

1 Press SPELL.

If you are unsure of part of the spelling of a word, enter the word using “?” or “★” for the letter(s) of which you are unsure.

Thesaurus

You can investigate the synonyms (and antonyms) for a word you enter. When the word you enter has more than one meaning, the unit will group the synonyms according to part of speech and meaning.

The thesaurus also includes synonym groups for some phrases - these are listed after the groups for the main parts of speech.

● Complex Entries

To find a thesaurus entry for a word within another list, use ◀ or ▶ to select the word from the screen display, then press ENTER to search for the underlined term. This function is particularly useful following cross-references.

● Words not in memory

If you press ENTER when a word you have entered is not contained in the unit's list of entries, or if the word you entered is misspelled, the unit will find and display the word which is spelled most closely to your entered word.

This happens even if the found word has no linguistic relationship to your entered word.

The unit provides two solvers that can help you to solve word games.

■ Hangman

This is a game in which you have to find a mystery word whose spelling is unknown to you with a limited number of allowed tries.

1 Select "Hangman" and then press ENTER.

The number of letters in the mystery word is indicated by question marks.

The number of times you can try is shown at the right of the screen.

2 When you enter one of the letters used in the mystery word, the question mark will be replaced by the letter.

Example: Enter "e".

* In some cases, the same letter is used two or more times in the same word:

When you enter the letter, all the corresponding question marks will be replaced by the letter simultaneously. Example: Enter “t”.

* The number of tries you are allowed will decrease progressively every time you enter an incorrect letter.

3 If all the letters in the word are displayed before you have used up all the tries, a congratulatory message will be displayed and counted in the "Won" column.

Then the next mystery word will be displayed.

This is a game in which you have to find a mystery word with a limited number of tries, in a limited time.

• 0 has been used as a divisor.
