Frequently Asked Questions - A7E32ET#ABB HP

What laptop models are compatible with the HP 2012 90W Docking Station (A7E32ET)?
This docking station is compatible with HP ProBook b-Series, HP EliteBook 8xxx p Series Notebook PCs, and HP EliteBook 8xxx w Series Mobile Workstations. Some models may require alternative docking solutions such as the HP 3005pr USB 3.0 Port Replicator. Always check your notebook's QuickSpecs for compatibility.
How do I dock my notebook to the HP 2012 Docking Station?
Align the docking posts on the notebook with the docking station's guide pads. Gently press down until the connector engages. The docking light will turn on when properly connected. To undock, press the eject button and lift the notebook.
Can I charge my notebook while it is docked?
Yes, the docking station includes a 90W Smart AC adapter that charges the notebook while docked. The adapter also provides integrated surge protection.
How many monitors can I connect?
You can connect up to two monitors simultaneously using the DVI-D, DisplayPort, and VGA ports. Note that only single-link DVI-D is supported, and maximum resolution may be limited by the notebook's graphics capabilities.
What is the purpose of the Always-On USB ports?
Always-On USB ports allow you to charge USB devices (e.g., smartphones, tablets) even when the notebook is in standby, powered off, or not connected to the docking station.
How can I secure the docking station and notebook?
The docking station has an integrated cable lock slot that supports the HP Docking Station Cable Lock (AU656AA) or any industry standard notebook lock. You can lock the docking station alone or lock both the docking station and the notebook for added security.

The Advanced models (A7E36AA and A7E38AA) add an integrated SATA upgrade bay, eSATA port, additional USB 2.0 ports, and support for up to three displays. The standard 90W model offers essential port replication and does not include an upgrade bay.

Can I use the docking station with a non-HP notebook?
The HP 2012 Docking Station uses a proprietary connector designed for HP Business Notebooks. It is not compatible with other brands or consumer HP laptops. Check your notebook's QuickSpecs for docking support.
What should I do if the docking station is not recognized?
Ensure the notebook is fully docked with the docking light on. Try undocking and redocking. If the issue persists, check for BIOS or driver updates on HP's support website. If still unresolved, contact HP technical support.
