Frequently Asked Questions - TPKX SMEG

What is the Smeg TPKX griddle used for?
The Smeg TPKX is a Teppanyaki-style flat cooking plate designed for use on gas hobs. It is ideal for searing meats, fish, vegetables, and preparing teppanyaki dishes.
How do I clean the griddle plate?
Clean the plate when it is hand-warm using a non-abrasive sponge and mild stainless steel detergent. Soak to remove residues, then dry thoroughly. Do not immerse in water immediately after use; let it cool first.
What is the maximum cooking time?
The plate should not be used for more than 60 minutes at a time. After that, turn off the burners and allow the plate to cool for at least 60 minutes before reuse.
Can I use the oven at the same time as the griddle?
Yes, the oven can be used simultaneously for up to 60 minutes, except when the plate is placed in Position 2 (where the oven must be off). Refer to the manual for specific positions.
Which burners should I use?
For even results, use the plate on a pair of medium/small burners with similar power ratings, such as fishplate + auxiliary or semirapid + auxiliary burners. Never use more than one plate at a time.
How long can burners be on maximum?
Burners under the plate may be on at maximum setting for no more than 15 minutes, after which they must be reduced to minimum.
What is the required clearance for installation?
Any wall at the side higher than the appliance top must be at least 15 cm away. The appliance must have a rear upstand or steel panel. Both sides cannot have high walls.
Can I use the plate on any gas hob?
Only on hobs that meet the minimum installation requirements and only in the positions shown in the manual (Fig. 2). The plate must be placed on the provided grids and on aligned burner pairs.
How should I season the griddle before first use?
Rinse the plate with water, dry it thoroughly, and apply a light coat of cooking oil to the surface. This helps create a non-stick layer and prevents rust.
Is it safe to immerse the plate in water?
No, do not immerse the plate in water while it is hot. Allow it to cool to hand-warm temperature before cleaning. For tough residues, soak in water after cooling.

Rinse, dry and lightly oil the plate before use.

The plate must be placed only on the provided grids and on pairs of burners aligned with the side of the appliance. (See Fig. 1- Fig 2)

The only permitted positions are those shown at the end of this manual in Fig. 2

Never attempt to use more than one plate on a single appliance at the same time.

The appliance on which the plate is to be used must satisfy the following minimum installation requirements:

  • any wall at the side of the appliance which is higher than its top must be at least 15 cm distant; there may not be such walls on both sides;
    • the appliance must be fitted with a rear upstand or steel panel.
The burners under the plate may be on at the same time, at maximum setting, for no more than 15 minutes, after which they must be returned to the minimum setting.

The plate should not be used for more than 60 minutes at a time.

After this time the burners must be turned off and allowed to cool for at least 60 minutes.

The cooker's oven or ovens may be used at the same time as the plate (except for the cases shown in figure 2) for no more than 60 minutes, within the limits indicated in the appliance's instruction booklet.

For even cooking results, use the plate on a pair of medium/small size burners with a similar power rating: for example, fishplate + auxiliary or semirapid burner + auxiliary.

After use, wait for at least 15 minutes before removing the plate from the appliance.

Even when using a single burner, observe the same precautions.

The plate can be cleaned more easily when it is still hand-warm. Do not immerse it in water immediately after use: wait for it to cool down first. Clean the plate with a normal stainless steel detergent and non-abrasive sponge.

To facilitate removal of deposits or residues, soak the plate in water for a while. Dry the plate thoroughly after washing.
