Frequently Asked Questions - HB-40R Harley Benton

How do I connect my guitar to the HB-40R amplifier?
Use a standard 1/4 inch instrument cable to connect your guitar to the input jack on the front panel. Ensure the amp is turned off or volume set to minimum when plugging in.
How can I switch between the clean and overdrive channels?
The HB-40R may have a dedicated channel switch button on the front panel. Alternatively, use the footswitch (not included) connected to the footswitch jack for hands-free channel switching.
Can I use headphones with this amplifier?
Yes, plug your headphones into the headphone output on the front or rear panel. This will mute the internal speaker for private practice.
How do I use the built-in reverb effect?
Turn the Reverb control knob clockwise to increase the reverb level. Adjust to your preference for a more spacious sound.
What is the correct way to clean the amplifier?
Disconnect the power cord and use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the exterior. Do not use any solvents or abrasives. Avoid moisture near controls and vents.
My amplifier has no sound. What should I check?
First, ensure the power cord is connected and the power switch is on. Check that your guitar volume is turned up and the cable is working. Verify that the amp volume and gain controls are not at minimum. If using headphones, ensure they are properly inserted.
Can I connect an external speaker cabinet?
The HB-40R typically does not have an external speaker output. It is a combo amplifier with a built-in speaker. Do not connect an external cabinet unless specified otherwise.
What type of fuse does it use and how do I replace it?
The amplifier uses a 5x20 mm glass fuse. For 230V operation, use a 500 mA slow-blow fuse; for 120V, use 1 A. Disconnect power, locate the fuse holder near the power cord inlet, and replace with the correct rating.
Can I use an effects pedal with this amp?
Yes, connect your effects pedal between the guitar and the amp input. The HB-40R also has a line out for connecting to additional gear or recording interfaces.
How should I store the amplifier when not in use?
Store it in a dry, stable environment away from extreme temperatures and humidity. Cover it to protect from dust. Avoid placing heavy objects on top.

7 Plug and connection assignment

Introduction

This chapter will help you select the right cables and plugs to connect your valuable equipment in such a way that a perfect sound experience is ensured.

Please note these advices, because especially in 'Sound & Light' caution is indicated: Even if a plug fits into the socket, an incorrect connection may result in a destroyed power amp, a short circuit or 'just' in poor transmission quality!

Balanced and unbalanced transmission

Unbalanced transmission is mainly used in semi-professional environment and in hifi use. Instrument cables with two conductors (one core plus shielding) are typical representatives of the unbalanced transmission. One conductor is ground and shielding while the signal is transmitted through the core.

Unbalanced transmission is susceptible to electromagnetic interference, especially at low levels, such as microphone signals and when using long cables.

In a professional environment, therefore, the balanced transmission is preferred, because this enables an undisturbed transmission of signals over long distances. In addition to the conductors 'Ground' and 'Signal', in a balanced transmission a second core is added. This also transfers the signal, but phase-shifted by 180irc .

HB-40R

Harley Benton HB-40R - Balanced and unbalanced transmission - 1

Since the interference affects both cores equally, by subtracting the phase-shifted signals, the interfering signal is completely neutralized. The result is a pure signal without any noise interference.

8 Cleaning

Device components

Clean the device components that are accessible from the outside regularly. The cleaning frequency depends on the operating environment: damp, smoky or particularly dirty environments can cause greater accumulation of dirt on the device components.

■ Clean with a dry soft cloth.
■ Stubborn dirt can be removed with a slightly dampened cloth.
■ Never use solvents or alcohol for cleaning.
