PREPARATION FOR USE

Unpacking And Set Up

• Remove the unit from the carton, and remove all packing materials from the unit.
• Save the carton and packing materials in case the unit ever needs to be returned for service. Using the original carton and packing materials is the only way to safely repack the unit for shipment.
• Remove any descriptive labels or stickers from the top or front of the unit. Do not remove any labels from the back or bottom of the cabinet.
• Remove any small strips of tape that may have been used to prevent the CD door from opening in transit.
• Open the CD door and remove the CD pickup protect card from the CD compartment. Discard it and close the CD door.
• Unwind the FM wire antenna and extend it to its full length.
• Place the unit on a stable, level surface such as a table, desk, shelf, etc within easy reach of an AC outlet, out of direct sunlight, and away from sources of excessive heat, dust, moisture or humidity.

Power Supply

This unit is designed to operate only on normal 120V 60Hz AC house current. Operating this unit from any other power source may cause damage to the unit and such damage is not covered by your warranty.

This unit has a polarized AC plug with one wide blade and one narrow blade. This plug will only fit into a matching polarized AC outlet. This is a safety feature to reduce the possibility of electric shock. If this plug will not fit in your AC outlet, you probably have an outdated non-polarized outlet. You should have your outdated outlet changed by a qualified, licensed electrician. Do not file the wide blade on the plug, or use an adapter to make the plug fit into your outlet. BATTERY INSTALLATION

Insert 2 'AAA' size alkaline batteries, not included, into the battery compartment of the remote handset, observing the battery polarity and replace the cover.

BATTERY REPLACEMENT

When the batteries become too weak, the operating distance of the remote handset is greatly reduced and you will need to replace the batteries.

NOTES:

• To maintain the accuracy and long life of the transmitter, do not press two or more buttons simultaneously.
• If the remote control is not to be used for a long time, remove the batteries to prevent possible damage through leaking batteries.
• Do not mix different types of batteries, or old batteries with new ones.

USING THE REMOTE CONTROLLER CORRECTLY

• Point the remote handset at the Remote Sensor on the front panel.
• The functions of the buttons on the remote handset are the same as the corresponding controls on the main unit.
• When there is a strong ambient light source, the performance of the infrared Remote Sensor may be degraded, causing unreliable operation.
• The maximum effective distance for remote control operation is about 16 feet (Approx. 5m)

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

CONNECTION TO ACTIVE SUBWOOFER

To enhance high bass, connect the RCA SUB WOOFER jack located at back of unit to your active subwoofer.

CONNECTION TO EXTERNAL AMPLIFIER

You have a possibility to connect to external Amplifier through RCA LINE OUT jacks located at back of unit.

SETTING THE CLOCK

Clock can be set while clock time is displayed, at STANDBY mode or CD, TUNER modes. During CD, or TUNER operations, press REMAIN/MODE button until clock is displayed, and follow the procedures below:

1.) Press the MEMORY / C-ADJ button for more than one second. The unit will then display the time and HOUR will start flashing.

2.) Adjust the hour by pressing the ▶▶/◀◀ buttons. Set the correct hour for AM or PM.

3.) Press MEMORY / C-ADJ button to confirm. Minutes will start flashing.

4.) Adjust the minutes by pressing the ▶▶/◀◀ buttons.

5.) Press MEMORY / C-ADJ button to store the time.

NOTE:

- If button is not pressed within 10 seconds, the clock display stops flashing.

- If the unit is disconnected from the AC power for more than one minute, you will need to reset the clock.

LISTENING TO RADIO

1.) Press the POWER/STANDBY button to turn the unit 'On'.
2.) Select the Tuner function by pressing TUNER button.
3.) Select AM or FM band by pressing BAND button. Tune to the desired station by pressing ▶▶ or ◀◀ button.
4.) Adjust the VOLUME to the desired level using the VOLUME UP or DOWN button.
5.) After finished listening, press the POWER/STANDBY button to turn power 'Off'.

Manual Tuning

Press the ▶▶ or ◀◀ buttons as many times as required until the frequency of the desired station appears on the display.

Automatic Tuning

Hold the ▶▶ or ◀◀ buttons for approximately 2 seconds. The Tuner will begin scanning up or down automatically and will lock onto the next strong signal.

Note: Tune manually for weak stations.

PRESET STATIONS INTO MEMORY

You can store up to 40 of your favorite FM and AM stations randomly. Once a station is preset in the memory, you will have quick and easy access to that station.

1.) Press the TUNER button to select the Tuner mode.
2.) Select the band (AM/FM) by pressing the BAND button.
3.) Select the desired station by pressing the ▶▶ or ◀◀ buttons.

4.) Press the MEMORY button. The memory indicator will flash in the display.

5.) Press the MEMORY-UP button to select any one of the 20 available preset station memories.

6.) Press the MEMORY button again to enter the selected radio station into the selected memory location.

7.) Repeat the above steps 2 – 6 to enter all your desired stations into the preset station memories.

TUNING TO PRESET STATIONS

After you have entered up to 40 (20 AM, 20 FM) stations in the preset memories, you can select any one of the memorized stations quickly and easily by simply pressing the MEMORY-UP button until the desired memory number and station frequency appear in the display.

ANTENNA INFORMATION

• For best FM reception, the FM lead wire antenna, located on the back of the set, should fully unwound and extended.
• The AM bar antenna is inside the cabinet. To improve AM reception, you may have to move or slightly rotate the main unit until you obtain the best reception.

PLAYING COMPACT DISCS

LOADING AND UNLOADING COMPACT DISCS

1.) Press the POWER ⏻ button to turn the unit 'On'.
2.) Select the CD function by pressing the CD button.

3.) Press the the CD Door OPEN/CLOSE button to open the CD compartment.

NOTE: The CD door is motorized and will open slowly. Do not touch the CD Door.

OPEN/CLOSE

4.) When the disc compartment has opened, insert the disc with the label side facing out. Push down in the center until disc is locked in place.
5.) Close the disc compartment by pressing the CD Door OPEN/CLOSE button. When the compartment is fully closed, the disc will start turning automatically. The total number of tracks and playing time will appear in the display.

NOTE: DO NOT PUSH CD DOOR WITH HAND OR BY ANY MEANS TO CLOSE THE DOOR.

6.) The disc compartment may be opened at any time by first pressing the STOP ■ button and then pressing the CD Door OPEN/CLOSE button. Remove the CD only after the compartment has fully opened and the disc has stopped spinning.

CAUTION

• Do not put anything except a compact disc into the compartment.
  • Foreign objects can damage the mechanism.
• Keep the disc compartment closed when not in use to prevent dirt and dust from entering the mechanism.
• Never place more than one disc into the disc compartment at any time.
• If the disc is correctly loaded, the total number of tracks on the disc will be displayed.

NOTES:

After the disc compartment is fully closed, the disc information may not appear on the display. This means that the disc is improperly loaded (most likely it is upside down). To check, open the disc compartment again and reload the disc.

DISC PLAY

1.) Insert a CD as described in the previous section and close the disc compartment.
2.) The display will then show the total number of tracks and total play time.
3.) Press the PLAY/PAUSE ▶ button. Disc play will begin from the start of the first track of the disc.
4.) As each track on the CD disc is played, the corresponding track number will flash in the Calendar display. The “>” indicator will appear if the disc in the player contains more than 10 tracks.
5.) A particular track can be selected using either of the CD Skip ◀◀/▶▶buttons. If this is done before pressing the PLAY/PAUSE ▶▶ button, disc play will start with the selected track when the PLAY/PAUSE ▶▶ button is pressed.
6.) At the end of the disc, the unit will switch to stop mode.

NOTES:

• If the disc is deeply scratched, or too dirty, disc play may not start.
• If the disc is inserted incorrectly, or the disc is damaged the "no disc" indicator will flash on display.

DISC ERRORS

• This compact disc player has built-in error compensation circuits to correct for minor defects in a disc. There are limits, however, to the amount of correction available.
• In some cases, the CD player may skip some tracks, or parts of tracks, on a disc during disc play. This problem may be caused by defects (such as scratches) in the disc being played, which are too large for the error compensation circuits to handle. If you encounter this problem, check the CD player's operation as follows, before having the unit serviced:
  Play a new disc. If the CD player operates normally, the skipping problem is probably due to a defective disc.

TO STOP A CD BEFORE THE DISC ENDS

1.) Press the STOP ■ button. Disc play will stop, and the display will show the total number of tracks.
2.) To temporarily stop disc play (Pause mode), press the PLAY/PAUSE ▶ button. Disc play will stop at the current play position. The display and the track playing time will flash.
3.) To resume disc play, press the PLAY/PAUSE ▶ button again.

TRACK SKIP

Starting disc play from the beginning of a particular track

Press the ▶▶ or ◀◀ Skip Track buttons to select the desired track. The number of

the selected track will be shown on the CD display.

Press the PLAY/PAUSE ▶ button to start play.

To skip to the next track

For example, to skip ahead to the beginning of track 5 while track 4 is playing.

1.) Press the ▶Skip track button once. Disc play will resume at the beginning of track 5.
2.) The CD player will skip ahead to the next track each time the ▶Skip track button is pressed. Repeatedly pressing the ▶Skip track button makes the CD player skip ahead through the disc track by track. Once the beginning of the last track is reached the CD player advance to the first track.

To skip to the previous track on a disc

For example to skip back to the beginning of track 3 while track 4 is playing.

1.) Press the ◄◀ Skip track button twice. Disc play will resume at the beginning of track 3.
2.) The CD player will skip back one track each time the ◄◀ Skip track button is pressed. If this button is pressed in the middle of a track, the CD player will skip back to the beginning of that track. To make it skip back to the previous track press the ◄◀ Skip track button twice.
3.) Repeatedly pressing the ▶◀ Skip track button makes the CD player skip back through the disc track by track. Once the beginning of the first track is reached, the CD player will go to the last track.

NOTES:

The ▶▶ and ◀◀ Skip track buttons can be used to select a desired track to play before disc play starts. In this case the number of the selected track will be displayed until the PLAY/PAUSE ▶▶ button is pressed.

TRACK SEARCH

You can search through the track by holding the ▶▶ or ◀◀ track skip button down. Normal play will resume when the button is released.

REPEAT DISC PLAY

Use the REPEAT button to play an entire disc or one track continuously.

Repeat The Whole Disc

1.) Press the REPEAT/MEMORY-UP button once. The "REPEAT" indicator

appears in the display.

2.) Press the PLAY/PAUSE ▶ button.

3.) The disc will then begin playing through to the end of the last track. At which point it will automatically return to the beginning of the first track. This will continue until the STOP ■ button is pressed.
4.) If the REPEAT / MEMORY-UP button is pressed twice more, the "REPEAT" indicator will disappears and repeat play will end. Normal disc play will resume from that point.
5.) When the last track has finished playing, the CD play will Stop.

Repeat The Same Track

1.) Select the desired track by pressing the ▶ or ◀ Skip track buttons. The track will be shown in the display.
2.) Press the REPEAT/MEMORY-UP button twice. The "REPEAT" indicator flashes in the display.

3.) Press the PLAY / PAUSE ▶ button.

4.) The selected track will then begin playing through to its end. At which point it will automatically return to the beginning of that track. This will continue until the STOP ■ button is pressed.

5.) If the REPEAT / MEMORY UP button is pressed once more, the "REPEAT" indicator will disappear and, repeat play will end. Normal disc play will resume from that point.
6.) When the last track has finished playing, the CD player will then Stop.

PROGRAMMED DISC PLAY

• It is possible to program the tracks you wish to play in a sequence of your choice. It is not possible to enter program a disc during playback. Press the STOP button first, then follow the instructions below.
• It is easier to use the remote control for the following settings, however you may also use the controls on the main unit if desired.

ENTERING A PROGRAM

1.) Press the MEMORY button. "TRACK MEMORY" flashes and "P-01" will be displayed on the display.

2.) Select the first desired track using the ▶ and ◀ Skip buttons.
3.) Press the MEMORY button. The first program selection is now stored in the program memory. The display will now show "P-02".

4.) Select the next desired track using the Forward ▶▶ and Reverse ◀◀ Skip Buttons.

5.) Press the MEMORY button. Continue entering tracks in this way until all the desired tracks are stored (up to 20 tracks).

NOTES:

• If the PLAY/PAUSE ▶ button is pressed before the MEMORY button is pressed to store a track, the track will not be programmed, and the disc will start playing from the first selected track.
• Any track can be programmed to play more than once.
• Repeatedly pressing the MEMORY button will enable you to check the program if required.

LISTENING TO PROGRAMMED TRACKS

1.) Enter all tracks you want to program into memory following the procedures on page 18.
2.) Press the PLAY/PAUSE ▶ button. Disc play will start at the beginning of the first programmed track.
"TRACK MEMORY" indicator appears on the display.

TO CLEAR THE PROGRAM MEMORY

• Press MEMORY button to enter programming mode, then press the STOP button.
• The program memory will also be cleared if the disc compartment is opened, if the function is changed, or if the power is turned 'Off'.

RANDOM PLAYBACK

Press the RANDOM button to play the tracks in random order. The RANDOM indicator appears in the display and random playback will begin in the play position. When all tracks have been played in random order, the player stops and the display shows the total tracks and playing time.

Random playback can be selected while a disc is playing or while the player is in the stop mode.

To cancel random playback press the RANDOM button until the RANDOM indicator disappears.

INTRO SCAN PLAYBACK

Press the INTRO button to begin Intro Scan playback. The INTRO indicator appears and the player will play the first 10 seconds of every track on each disc in the player, starting with the disc that is in the play position. You can begin Intro playback while a disc is playing or while the player is in the stop mode. After the first 10 seconds of each track have been played the player stops automatically.

To cancel Intro playback at any time press the INTRO button again. The INTRO indicator disappears and normal playback resumes.

REMAIN FUNCTION

Press REMAIN/MODE button while CD is playing, display changes to disc remaining play time, REMAIN indicator appears on display.

Press REMAIN/MODE button 2nd time, display shows Clock Time.

Press REMAIN/MODE button 3rd time, display shows "TIMER ON" time.

Press REMAIN/MODE button 4th time, display shows "TIMER OFF" time.

NOTE: IF NO BUTTON IS PRESSED IN 10 SECONDS, DISPLAY RETURNS TO NORMAL CD PLAY TIME.

• This unit is equipped with a preset equalizer which has been added to enhance your listening pleasure by altering the frequency response of the music.
• Press the Preset EQ button on main unit repeatedly to cycle through the following equalization modes.

MUTE

• Press the MUTE button on remote control to switch off the sound, the MUTE indicator will illuminate.
• Press MUTE again to restore the sound to the previous level. MUTE indicator will extinguish.

STEREO HEADPHONE JACK

For private listening without disturbing others connect a set of stereo headphones (not included) to the PHONES Jack on the back panel. The built-in speakers automatically shut off when stereo headphones are connected to the headphone jack. When using stereo headphones always start with the volume control set to a low level and gradually increase until you find the desired level.

AUTOMATIC ON/OFF TIMER (Remote Control Only)

This system now features a programmable timer that can turn the system 'On' and 'Off' whenever you like. To use the timer function you must first set the desired 'Timer On' and 'Timer Off' times, which can be set at Power 'On' or Standby modes.

SETTING THE TIMER ON/OFF TIMES

1.) Press the REMAIN/MODE button repeatedly until the display shows:

3.) Press the MEMORY button. The hour digits will be flashing.

MEMORY/C-ADJ

4.) Press the ◄◀/▶▶ buttons to adjust the hour. Observe the AM/PM indicators to be sure you are setting the hour correctly. When the desired hour appears, press the MEMORY button again. The hour digits remain 'On' and the minute digits begin to flash.

5.) Press the ◄◀/▶◀ buttons to adjust the minutes. When the desired 'turn on' time is on the display, press the MEMORY button again. The 'Timer On' time is set.

6.) Press the REMAIN/MODE button, MEMORY button and then the ◀◀/▶▶ buttons to adjust the 'turn off' hour.

7.) Press the MEMORY button and then the <</▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶▶>

8.) When the desired 'turn off' time is on the display press the MEMORY button once more. The display will return to the normal function display. Press the TIMER button to turn Timer 'On'. The 'TIMER' indicator appears on display.

9.) Press the appropriate function button to select the function you wish to hear when the unit turns 'On' (TUNER or CD). Adjust the VOLUME, EQ, AND controls as desired and the press the POWER button to shut the system 'Off'.

Note: If you selected the CD function make sure that the disc you want to hear is in the play position. If you selected TUNER function make sure that the unit is tuned to the desired station before shutting the system 'Off'.

At the selected 'turn on' time the system will turn on to the function you selected. It will play until it reaches the 'turn off' time and then shut off automatically. To shut the system 'Off' immediately press the POWER button. The system shuts off but the TIMER indicator remains in the display and the timer remains 'On'. The system will turn 'On' and 'Off' again at the same time every day until the timer is switched 'Off.

SWITCHING THE TIMER ON AND OFF

Simply press the TIMER button to switch the Timer 'On' or 'Off'. This can be done even at Power 'Off'. When the TIMER indicator appears in the display the Timer is 'On'. When the TIMER indicator disappears, the Timer is 'Off'.

SLEEP TIMER OPERATION (On Remote Control Only)

The Sleep Timer function allows you to operate the system for up to 90 minutes and then shuts the power off automatically.

1.) Press POWER button to turn the system 'On', and press TUNER or CD to the desired function.
2.) Press the SLEEP button on the remote control handset. The display will show "SLEEP" and "90" for a few seconds. Then the display returns to the normal function display but the SLEEP indicator remain 'On'. The system will play for 90 minutes and then shut off automatically.
3.) To adjust the amount of Sleep Timer operation, press and hold the SLEEP button. Release the button at the desired Sleep time.

4.) To shut the system 'Off' before the Sleep Timer ends, press the POWER button at any time.

Wall mounting Instruction:

1.) Use the metal bracket supplied with unit as template to mark anchor hole locations, making sure that holes are leveled.
2.) Drill 3/16" holes.
3.) Insert the plastic anchor supplied with unit through the hole and tap it until it is flush with the wall.
4.) Inset the screw and tighten the screw 1/8" away from the wall.
5.) Place the metal bracket and tighten the screws.
6.) Align the rectangular hook on the back of unit with the metal bracket opening and slowly lower the unit to rest on the bracket.
7.) Make sure that the unit is securely attached to the bracket.

CARE AND MAINTENANCE

There are no user serviceable parts inside the unit. Do not attempt any adjustments other than those described in the manual. Refer all other problems to qualified service personnel.

Compact Disc Care

• To remove a disc from its storage case, press down on the center of the case and lift the disc out, holding it carefully by the edges.
• Treat the disc carefully. Handle the disc only by its edges. Never allow your fingers to come in contact with the shiny, unprinted side of the disc.

• Do not attach any tape, stickers, etc. to the disc label.
• Clean the disc periodically with a soft, lint-free, dry cloth. Never use detergents or abrasive cleaners to clean the disc. If necessary, use a CD cleaning kit.
• If a disc skips or gets stuck on a section of the disc, it is probably dirty or damaged (scratched).
• When cleaning the disc, wipe in straight lines from the center of the disc to the outer edge of the disc. Never wipe in circular motions.

Care Of The Cabinet

• If the cabinet becomes dusty wipe it with a soft dry dust cloth. Do not use any wax or polish sprays on the cabinet.
• If the front panel becomes dirty or smudged with fingerprints it may be cleaned with a soft cloth slightly dampened with a mild soap and water solution. Never use abrasive cloths or polishes as these will mar the finish of your unit.

Caution:

Never allow any water or other liquids to get inside the unit while cleaning.

Should this unit exhibit a problem, check the following before seeking service.

For how long? For a period of one (1) year from the date of original purchase in the U.S.

What will we do? If you need service under this warranty, and you provide us with the dated proof of purchase, we will provide repair service at no charge for labor and parts at an authorized Depot Repair Facility, or replace the product in our discretion.

How do you make your warranty claim? If it becomes necessary to repair your unit, you can obtain the name and mailing location of a Depot Repair Facility by dialing 1-888-837-8370. You should pack your unit in a well-padded heavy corrugated box, enclose your check or money order payable to the Depot Repair Facility in the amount of \$15.00 to cover the return shipping and handling costs, and enclose a copy of your proof of purchase (warranty service will not be provided without a dated proof of purchase). Finally, you should ship the unit prepaid via UPS or parcel post (insured).

What does your warranty not cover? Your warranty does not cover the following:

• Damage from negligence, misuse, abuse, accident, or failure to follow operating instructions.
• Use of product in a commercial application or rentals.
  • Changes or repairs by anyone other than an authorized Depot Repair Facility.
• Damage because your unit is improperly connected to the equipment of other manufacturers.
• Units on which the serial number has been defaced, modified or removed.
• Damage to equipment not properly connected to the product.
