Frequently Asked Questions - Practilite 632 Kinotehnik

How do I connect the Practilite 632 to the smartphone app?
Download the free Practilite Remote Control App from the App Store or Google Play. Turn on Bluetooth on your smartphone. Launch the app and tap the magnifying glass with '+' to search for devices. Select your Practilite 632 from the list. The middle LED indicator on the fixture will turn green when connected.
What is Boost mode and when should I use it?
Boost mode temporarily increases the lumen output by approximately 50% at 4500 K by engaging additional LED phosphors. It is activated by pressing the BOOST button on the fixture or via the app's fan button. Note that Boost mode requires extra cooling (fan speeds up) and is disabled when operating on battery power.
Can I use the Practilite 632 with a battery?
Yes, but only with an external battery plate (V-Mount or Gold Mount) connected via the 4-pin XLR DC input. The fixture does not have an internal battery. When on battery power, Boost mode is automatically disabled to preserve battery life.
How do I adjust the color temperature?
Rotate the Color Balance knob on the fixture to continuously adjust the color temperature from 3000 K (warm) to 6000 K (daylight). The OLED display shows the Kelvin value. You can also control color temperature via the app when connected.
What is the beam angle range and how do I change it?
The beam angle can be manually adjusted from 10° (spot) to 60° (flood) by turning the focusing knob on the rear of the fixture. Note that focus cannot be controlled from the app.
Is the Practilite 632 fan loud?
No, the cooling system is designed to be super silent, operating at less than 12 dB in normal mode. In Boost mode, the fan may increase slightly but remains very quiet.
What is included in the box?
The package includes: Practilite 632 LED lighting instrument, barndoors, AC adapter with attached 10' (3 m) cable, reusable custom-cut foam insert, and the user manual.
How do I mount the Practilite 632 on a light stand?
The fixture has a 5/8" (16 mm) Baby Pin receiver, which fits standard light stands. Insert the pin into the receiver and tighten the yoke lever. It is also compatible with Profoto speedrings (4" inner diameter) for use with softboxes.
Can I control multiple Practilite 632 units from one app?
Yes, the app supports up to six fixtures simultaneously via Bluetooth LE. Each unit is assigned a channel, which can be reordered and linked for synchronized color balance and/or dimming.
How often should I service the Practilite 632?
The manufacturer recommends a thorough inspection and service at least every 24 months. Additionally, regularly check for visible damage and do not operate if any is found. Keep ventilation slots clear and avoid operating with closed barndoors to prevent overheating.

Remote Control Application

For a quick video overview and introduction to the smartphone application visit www.kinotehnik.com/practilite602/remote. Otherwise, read on.

After downloading the Practilite remote control App make sure you turn on Bluetooth on your smartphone to enable effortless connection and control over one or up to six Practilite 632 instruments.

Launch the App and you will see three channels grayed out, there are three more hidden on the right side of the screen and can be revealed by swiping from right to left and vice versa.

Now, to make a connection just tap the magnifying glass with „+“ in it. Repeat the procedure for any remaining Practilites you might have set up. To identify which channel is connected to which instrument just tap the „eye“ it will blink the light associated.

To arrange the channels into a more logical sequence, hold your finger down on the vertical tab in the middle of a channel, it should light up to let you know that's it's ready to be dragged into a more logical and easy to remember position. Repeat this to all the lights connected and when satisfaction is achieved.

Now, when all the light are connected and arrange it's time to set the intensity of each or if you prefer set the appropriate colour balance by taping the „OO“ tab on the bottom. Notice that you can link all or some of the connected lights together to have the same colour balance.

Light intensity linking is also available, independent from the colour balance.

There is also this „fan“ button which toggles the Boost mode on and off. Boost mode also requires a bit more cooling so the fan will rev up a bit. Boost mode works basically like if you engaged a tungsten bulb and a daylight bulb both at the same time almost doubling the lumen output. The downside is the need for cooling. Please notice that Boost mode is disabled when working on battery power. (Corresponding red indicator lights up on the fixture.)
