Frequently Asked Questions - WNC-861 Sunnydaze Decor

How do I assemble the Sunnydaze Decor WNC-861 fountain?
Place the fountain on a smooth, level surface against a wall. Connect the light cable to the pump cable through the access hole. Firmly attach the pump to the water tube inside the fountain topper. Place the pump in the basin and run the power cord out the back. Connect the AC adapter to the pump power cable. Fill with enough water to submerge the pump, then plug into a GFCI outlet.
Why is water not flowing from the fountain?
Ensure the pump is fully submerged. If air is trapped, unplug for a few moments and plug back in. Check the flow control valve on the pump; adjust if necessary. Also inspect the pump and tubing for obstructions.
How can I adjust the water flow rate?
The pump has a flow control valve with maximum (+) and minimum (-) settings. Turn the valve to achieve the desired flow rate.
Can I use tap water in the fountain?
Yes, tap water is acceptable. Distilled water helps prevent mineral buildup but is not required. Avoid heavily chlorinated water as it may damage the fountain and pump.
How should I clean the fountain?
Always unplug the power supply first. Change the water periodically. Remove scale and buildup with a mild cleaner; do not use abrasive substances or a pressure washer. Use a soft cloth or sponge.
What should I do in freezing weather?
Drain the fountain completely. Disconnect the pump and store it indoors. Allowing ice to form can crack the fountain, damage the pump, or cause lighting malfunction.
The lights are not turning on. What could be wrong?
Ensure the AC adapter is fully connected to the pump power cable. Check that the light cables are firmly connected with dry, tightened seals. If the pump runs but lights don't work, inspect the connector ends for moisture and ensure they are completely dry before reconnecting and plugging in.
How can I reduce pump noise?
Pump noise may be caused by trapped air, low water level, or the pump touching the fountain walls. Ensure the pump is fully submerged. Gently tap the pump to release air. Add water if needed, or reposition the pump away from the walls.
Can I hang this fountain on a wall?
No. This fountain is designed to sit on the ground against a wall. It is not intended for wall hanging.
What should I do if water splashes out of the fountain?
First, adjust the flow control valve to reduce the water flow rate. Ensure the fountain is placed on a level surface. If splashing persists, move the fountain to an area where water damage is not a concern, as some splashing is normal.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

  • The water tubing is built into the fountain body. Take care when handling the water tube; detaching the water tube from the fountain topper will damage the unit and void the warranty.
  • Familiarize yourself with the flow control valve on the pump, maximum (+) and minimum (-). This may need to be adjusted to achieve optimal water flow.
  • The lights and light cables are rated for contact with water. Use care when handling the lights, jarring movements or dropping them may cause the lights to burn out prematurely.
  • Rattling noise inside the fountain? Due to the casting process, there may be loose pieces of casting material inside the fountain. Simply remove casting material before use.
  • This fountain is designed to set on the ground, against a wall. It is not designed for hanging on a wall.

ASSEMBLY

Diagram illustrating a traditional stone fountain with labeled components and electrical connections, including water transfer and power outlet.

  1. Through the access hole in the back of the basin, locate the light cable and firmly attach it to the short cable on the pump.
  2. Firmly connect the pump to the water tube that is inside the fountain topper. Place the pump inside the basin and run the power cord out the access hole in the back of the fountain.
  3. Firmly connect the AC Adapter to the pump power cable.
  4. Fill the fountain with enough clean water to keep the pump fully submerged during operation.
  5. Plug the power cord directly into a properly grounded GFCI outlet.

Note: When first used, there may be air trapped in the pump. It may take several minutes for trapped air to escape, allowing water to flow.

Care & Maintenance

  • Some splashing may occur; adjust the flow rate on the pump if the water rate is too high. Do not use fountain in areas that can be damaged if water happens to splash or leak.
  • Some climates and weather conditions increase water evaporation, requiring water to be added more frequently. Frequently check water levels during times of high temperatures, wind, and long-term exposure to direct sunlight to ensure the pump remains underwater. Never allow the pump to run dry as it will burn out the motor.
  • Only use water in this fountain. Distilled water will help prevent mineral buildup but is not required. Tap water is okay to use, but avoid heavily chlorinated water as it may damage the fountain and the pump.
    • Over time, the finish may gradually mellow in color due to sun exposure; this is part of the natural aging process and is not cause for return.

  • Periodically change the water to help keep the fountain and pump clean. Remove scale and buildup regularly.
DO NOT use harmful additives such as bleach, chlorine, etc.
DO NOT use anything that is abrasive to scrub the fountain.
DO NOT use a pressure washer to clean the fountain.

• Always unplug the power supply before cleaning and maintaining the fountain and the recirculating pump.

Take care when handling the pump; only pick it up by the body of the pump, never the power cord.

- During freezing weather, drain the fountain, disconnect the pump and store indoors; allowing ice to form may damage the fountain in such ways as, but not limited to, fountain cracking, permanent pump damage and/or lighting malfunction.

Troubleshooting

- If water is not flowing within several moments of the fountain being plugged in, ensure that the pump is fully submerged underwater. Add water to the reservoir if necessary. The pump may have air bubbles trapped inside, which can prevent water from circulating properly. Unplug the power supply for a few moments and plug it back in.

- Check the flow control on the body of the pump, it may need to be adjusted to achieve the desired water flow rate.

- Inspect the pump and tubing for obstructions.

- Pump noise can be caused by trapped air, low water level, or the pump being too close to the walls of the fountain. While the pump is fully submerged, try gently tapping the pump with your finger to help release the trapped air. Also, check if adding water or moving the pump helps to reduce noise.

- If water is not flowing and the lights do not turn on, ensure the AC adapter is fully connected to the pump power cable. If the pump is running but the lights are not working, ensure the cables are fully connected, and the seals are adequately tightened (do not over-tighten). Ensure the connector ends are completely dry before connecting and plugging the power cord back into an outlet.

- Check to make sure the power outlet is working; consult a certified electrician if in doubt about electrical connections.
