To enjoy Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc featured with High Dynamic Range (HDR)
If you see a message about High Dynamic
Range (HDR) compatible issue while an Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc is played back, please check
your TV settings as follows.
An example of the message:
"This player is not connected to a High Dynamic Range (HDR) compatible TV."

1) When you use a Panasonic TV that is
compatible with 4K/High Dynamic Range (HDR) and was released in 2015 or later, enable the
HDR setting of the TV. (This setting may not be
available depending on the TV. Refer to the
operating instructions of the TV for details.)
2) If you use a TV not from Panasonic,
compatible with 4K and High Dynamic Range (HDR), please refer to the operating instructions.
3) When you play a High Dynamic Range (HDR)
disc on a TV without High Dynamic Range (HDR) capability, the disc can be played back
(in non-HDR quality) even if the message
appears.

Finalize
Any DVD-R/RW/R DL, +R/+RW/+R DL and CD-R/RW that are recorded by a recorder need to be finalized by the recorder to play on this unit.
Please refer to the recorder's instructions.
BD-Video
This unit supports high bit rate audio (Dolby® Digital Plus, Dolby™ TrueHD, DTS-HD High Resolution Audio™ and DTS-HD Master Audio™) adopted in BD-Video.
3D
3D videos and 3D still pictures can be played back when this unit is connected to a 3D compatible TV using a High Speed HDMI Cable.
■ Music CD
Operation and sound quality of CDs that do not comply with CD-DA specifications (copy control CDs, etc.) cannot be guaranteed to work.
USB device
■ Connect a USB device while the Home screen is displayed. - This unit does not guarantee connection with all USB devices. • This unit does not support USB device charging. • FAT12, FAT16, FAT32, and NTFS file systems • This unit supports USB 2.0 High Speed. - This unit supports an HDD formatted in FAT32 and NTFS. If the HDD is not recognized, the power to the HDD may not be supplied. Supply power from an external source.
BD-RE, BD-R
This unit may not correctly play back the audio portion of a video recorded to a disc in multiple languages with a Blu-ray disc recorder.

- It may not be possible to play the above media in some cases due to the type of media, the condition of the recording, the recording method, and how the files were created.
- The producers of the disc can control how discs are played, so you may not always be able to control play as described in those operating instructions. Read the disc's instructions carefully.

When the unit is turned on, the LED flashes first, and then lights up.

Press to switch the unit from on to standby mode or vice versa. In standby mode, the unit is still consuming a small amount of power.
CAUTION
Do not place objects in front of the unit. The disc tray may collide with objects when it is opened, and this may cause malfunction.
- When inserting a media item, ensure that it is facing the correct way, which is the right side facing up.
- If you connect a Panasonic product with a USB connection cable, the setup screen may be displayed on the connected equipment. For details, refer to the instructions for the connected equipment.

Connecting to a TV
4K images can be played back when this unit is connected to 4K compatible TV.
- Before making any connections, please disconnect all the units from AC power. (Connect the AC mains lead after making all connections.) ■ Use the High Speed HDMI cables. Non-HDMI-compliant cables cannot be utilized.
- This unit consumes a small amount of AC power (→ 39) even when turned off in standby mode. For the purpose of energy conservation, the unit should be disconnected if you will not be using it for extended period of time.
Enjoying 4K output
To enjoy images in 4K (50p/60p), you need an HDMI cable that supports 18 Gbps. When outputting 1080p or 24p (4K) signal, please use HDMI cables 5.0 meters or less. It is recommended that you use Panasonic's HDMI cable. - If you connect this unit to a 4K-compatible TV and perform "Easy Settings", 4K (50p/60p) will be automatically selected. (⇒ 17, 33) - To view Ultra HD Blu-ray content in 4K/HDR format, connect to the HDMI terminal of a device that supports HDCP2.2, 4K (50p/60p) 4:4:4, and HDR signals that meet Ultra HD Blu-ray standards.

It is not possible to simultaneously output audio from both the amplifier connected to the HDMI AUDIO OUT terminal and the other amplifier connected to the OPTICAL terminal.

Easy Settings

After connecting your new player for the first time and pressing [☐], the basic settings screen will appear.

- To reconnect this unit to a 4K (50p or 60p)-compatible TV after connecting this unit to a 2K-compatible TV and completing 'Easy Settings', set '4K(50p/60p) Output' to '4K(50p/60p) 4:4:4' or '4K(50p/60p) 4:2:0' (⇒ 28)

Firmware updates
This unit is capable of checking the firmware automatically when connected to the Internet via a broadband connection. When a new firmware version is available, the following message is displayed.

Select "Yes" to start downloading the firmware. When the firmware update starts after the downloading is finished, a black screen is displayed and the POWER LED flashes rapidly.
You cannot operate the unit until the update is complete. Don't remove the AC mains lead during the update. Removing the AC mains lead while the update is in progress may damage the unit.
After the firmware is installed, unit will restart and the following screen will be displayed.

- You can also download the latest firmware from the following website and store it to a USB device to update the firmware. http://panasonic.jp/support/global/ca/ (This site is in English only.) When the update is complete the POWER LED will stop rapid flashings and start flashing in a repeating pattern of three flashes. Turn off and on the unit. (9, 36)

- Downloading will require several minutes. It may take longer or may not work properly depending on the connection environment.
You must agree to the terms of use for the Internet function and the privacy policy (=> 32, "Legal Notices"). "X.XX" represents the firmware version number.

Enjoying Ultra HD Blu-ray Enjoying 3D video and photos
You can enjoy the playback of Ultra HD Blu-ray discs with this unit.
Preparation
- For 4K/HDR viewing, connect to a device and terminals that support HDCP2.2*, 4K (50p/60p) 4:4:4 and HDR signals that meet Ultra HD Blu-ray standards. (⇒ 10)
Due to copyright restrictions, it may not be possible to play back certain discs unless this unit is connected to the Internet.

- When connected to a device or terminal that does not support HDCP2.21, this unit applies Dynamic Range Conversion15 to HDR signals to output them in 2K resolution. In addition, depending on the disc, it may not be possible to perform playback correctly.
- When connected to a device or terminal that supports 4K (50p/60p) 4:2:0 (8 bit) and lower, this unit plays back 50p/60p content by applying Dynamic Range Conversion12 to its HDR signals to output them.
- When connected to a device or terminal that does not support 4K resolution, this unit applies Dynamic Range Conversion® to HDR signals to output them in 2K resolution.
- When connected to a device or terminal that does not support HDR, this unit applies Dynamic Range Conversion2 to HDR signals to output them. In addition, depending on the disc, it may not be possible to output content in 2K resolution or perform playback correctly. 1 HDCP is a technology designed to prevent illegal copying. '2.2' represents a version. Dynamic Range Conversion is a function that converts HDR video signals into video signals suited to TVs that do not support HDR input.
Preparation
Connect this unit to a 3D compatible TV. (→ 10)
• Perform the necessary preparations for the TV.

- Please refrain from viewing 3D images if you do not feel well or are experiencing visual fatigue.
In the event that you experience dizziness, nausea, or other discomfort while viewing 3D images, discontinue use and rest your eyes.
- 3D video might not output the way it is set in "Video Format" and "3D Output" (p. 28)
- When playing back 3D photos from "Photos" screen, select from the "3D" list. (Still pictures in "2D" are played back in 2D.)
If '2D' and '3D' indications are not displayed, press the red button on the remote control to switch the view of playback contents.
Enjoying BD-Live
With "BD-Live" discs, you can enjoy bonus
contents that use Internet access. For this BD-Live function, connection of a USB device is necessary along with Internet connection.
1 Perform network connection and settings. (⇒ 16, 17)
2 Connect a USB device with 1 GB or more free space.
• The USB device is used as the local storage.
3 Insert the disc.

You can share photos, videos and music stored in the Network Contents server*! [PC, smartphone, recorders, etc.] connected to your home network.

- When this unit is connected to a Panasonic recorder with a server function, register this unit to the recorder.
1 Press [HOME].
2 Select "Home Network" and press [OK].
3 Select "Network Contents Playback" and press [OK].
- The list can be updated by pressing the green button on the remote control.
- The selected equipment can be deleted from the list by pressing the red button on the remote control.
4 Select the equipment and press [OK].
5 Select the item to play and press [OK].
- You may be able to use convenient functions depending on the content by pressing [OPTION].

Using the Digital Media Controller
You can use a smartphone or tablet as the Digital Media Controller (DMC) to playback contents from Network Contents server on the Renderer (this unit).

What is VIERA Link?
VIERA Link is a convenient function which will link the operations of this unit and a Panasonic TV (VIERA) or other device under "VIERA Link".
You can use this function by connecting the equipment with an HDMI cable. See the operating instructions for connected equipment for operational details.
* Only when connecting via an HDMI VIDEO OUT terminal on this unit.
Automatic input switching Power on link
When the following operations are performed, the input channel of the TV will be automatically switched and the screen of this unit will be displayed.
If this unit is on and the TV is off, the TV automatically turns on.

Power off link
When you set the TV to standby mode, this unit is also automatically set to standby mode.
Playing music continuously even after turning off the TV
When the unit is connected to a Panasonic TV (VIERA) that supports VIERA Link and an amplifier/receiver supports VIERA Link.

- Dynamic Range Adjustment: Set the brightness of the entire screen when outputting HDR (High Dynamic Range) video to a connected HDR-compatible TV.
- DR Conversion Adjustment: When this unit is connected to a TV that does not support HDR (High Dynamic Range) input, HDR video is output converting to a SDR (Standard Dynamic Range) video signal. If you set a smaller value, their contrast will be reproduced more faithfully, but the entire screen will appear darker. To increase the brightness, set a larger value.
■ Luminance Adjustment Adjust the contrast, brightness and tone curve (white/black). Adjust the colour saturation and hue.
■ Colour Adjustment
■ Sharpness Adjustment
Adjust the sharpness of images. The greater the value is, the sharper images will be.
Noise Reduction
Reduce unnecessary noise in videos. The greater the value is, the less noise will appear.
■ Bandwidth Limitation
Adjust the bandwidth limitations.
Progressive
Select the method of conversion for progressive output to suit the type of material being played. - If the video is disrupted when "Auto" is selected, select either "Video" or "Film" depending on the material to be played back.
■ Reset to Default Picture Settings
Return "Picture Settings" of the selected tab ("Set 1" or "Set 2") to the factory preset.

(Upsampling up to 192 kHz/32 bit is possible.)
Night Surround
Enjoy a movie with powerful sound even when the volume is kept low at night. The audio is set in such a way that it can be heard easily.

This feature gives you brighter sound by increasing the high frequency portion of the audio.

Even when '96/88.2kHz' is selected, an audio source with a sampling frequency of 96 kHz or higher will be output with the original sampling frequency.
- When "Sound Effects" is set to "Off", this setting is disabled.
DSD Decode Sampling Frequency
Select the settings that suit your sound quality preferences.
DSD LPF Setting
Select the settings that suit your sound quality preferences.
Dialogue Enhancer 2
The volume of the centre channel is raised to make dialog easier to hear.
High Clarity Sound
Stop processing signals that affect the audio quality to make the audio quality clearer. (See page 31)
Select whether or not to output images. This setting can be switched by pressing the green button on the remote control during music playback.
- If "On (Video Off)" is selected, the setting will be cancelled after you play back a video.

Original: Keep original picture format.

■ Video Format
The items supported by the connected devices are indicated on the screen as "+". When any item without "+" is selected, the images may be distorted.
- If "Automatic" is selected, the best suited output resolution to the connected TV is automatically selected.
This unit automatically chooses to output images in 4K 27 (50p/60p) when connected to a 4K (50p or 60p) compatible TV.
- This item is available only when "Video Format" is set to "Automatic" and "4K".
This item is not available when "HDMI(AUDIO) Output Mode" is set to "Video+Audio".
- To connect to a TV that supports 4K (50p/60p) 4:4:4/8 bit or 4K (50p/60p) 4:2:2/12 bit, select '4K(50p/60p) 4:4:4'.
Images will not be output correctly with an
- HDMI cable that does not support 18 Gbps. - To connect to a TV that supports 4K (50p/60p) 4:2:0/8 bit, select '4K(50p/60p) 4:2:0'.
■ 24p Output
Content recorded at 24p *3 , such as BD-Video
- When this unit is connected to TV compatible with 4K/24p and "Video Format" is set to "Automatic" or "4K", images will be output in 4K/24p.
- When this unit is connected to a TV compatible with 1080/24p and "Video Format" is set to "Automatic", "1080i" or "1080p", images will be output in 1080/24p.
- If images output in 24p are distorted, change the setting to "Off".
■ HDMI(VIDEO) Output Mode
Set whether or not to output audio from the HDMI VIDEO OUT terminal.
- When an amplifier is connected to the HDMI AUDIO OUT terminal and this menu item is set to "Automatic (Video Only / Video+Audio)", the TV may not output audio. In that case, select "Video+Audio".
■ HDMI(AUDIO) Output Mode
Set whether or not to output images from the HDMI AUDIO OUT terminal.
- It is not possible to output 3D, 4K or HDR content from the HDMI AUDIO OUT/HDMI VIDEO OUT terminal when "Video+Audio" is selected.

Colour Mode
This setting is for selecting colour-space conversion of the image signal.
▶ Deep Colour Output
Set the output method to be used when this unit is connected to a TV that supports Deep Colour.
▶ HDR (High Dynamic Range) Output
Output images in HDR (High Dynamic Range) format depending on the content and connected device.
HLG / PQ Conversion
Set whether or not to convert HDR (High Dynamic Range) videos in HLG format to PQ format before outputting them when this unit is connected to a TV that supports only HDR (PQ) format.
- When "HDR (High Dynamic Range) Output" is set to "Off", this setting is disabled.
HDCP Output Setting
If you connect to a TV that does not support HDCP2.2 via an amplifier or speaker, some images may be displayed as black screens. In that case, select "HDCP1.4 Limit".
Contents Type Flag
Depending on the playback content, the TV will output adjusting to the optimal method when a TV that supports this function is connected.
Audio Output
This setting selects whether or not to output audio from HDMI.
- To enjoy audio with the HDMI terminal, select "On". To enjoy audio with the OPTICAL terminal, select "Off". Audio will not be output from the HDMI terminal regardless of the settings for "HDMI(VIDEO) Output Mode" and "HDMI(AUDIO) Output Mode".
7.1ch Audio Reformatting
Surround sound with 6.1ch or less is automatically expanded and played back at 7.1ch.
- If "Off" is selected, sound is played over the original number of channels. (Note that in the case of 6.1ch audio, playback will be at 5.1ch.)
- Audio reformatting is enabled in the following cases:
- When you have selected "PCM" in "Digital Audio Output".

Downmix
Select the downmix system for converting multi-channel to 2-channel sound.
- Select "Surround encoded" when the connected equipment supports the virtual surround function.
- The downmix effect is not available when "Digital Audio Output" is set to "Bitstream".

The following do not indicate a problem with this unit:
– Regular disc rotating sounds. – Image disturbance during search. – Image disturbance when replacing 3D discs.
■ Unit does not respond to remote control or unit's buttons.
Press and hold [∅/l] on the main unit for 3 seconds - If still unable to turn the unit off, disconnect the AC mains lead, wait 1 minute, then reconnect the AC mains lead.
■ Cannot eject disc.

Press and hold [OK], the yellow button, and the blue button on the remote control at the same time for more than 5 seconds.
- The POWER LED starts to flash, and "00 RET" is displayed on the screen.

General operation
To return to the factory default, select "Yes" in "Default Settings" in the Setup menu. (⇒ 33)

The remote control and this unit are using different codes.
Turn on this unit by using [0/1] on the main unit, and check "Remote Control □", which is displayed on the screen when you press a button on the remote control. Press and hold [OK] and the displayed number ("T") for more than 5 seconds.
This unit is turned off automatically.
To save on electricity, this unit is turned off automatically depending on the media if there is no button operation for about 20 minutes when not playing back (such as when paused or displaying the menu, displaying still pictures, etc.).

You have forgotten your ratings password. You want to cancel the ratings level.
The ratings level returns to the factory defaults. ① While the unit is on, press and hold [OK], the yellow button, and the blue button on the remote control at the same time for more than 5 seconds. - The POWER LED starts to flash, and "00 RET" is displayed on the screen. ② Press [▶] (right) repeatedly on the remote control until "03 VL" is displayed on the screen. ③ Press [OK].
The TV screen turns black.
In the following cases, HDMI authentication takes place and a black screen is displayed: - When "24p Output" is set to "Automatic".
- When the display is switched between 2D and 3D images.
- When you quit the 4K playback by displaying another screen, including the HOME menu.
- When "HDMI Output Settings of Music Playback" is set to "Sound Quality Priority".
This unit does not recognize the USB connection correctly.
➢ Disconnect and re-connect the USB cable. If it still does not recognize the connection, turn this unit off and on again. USB devices may not be recognized by this unit when connected using the following: - a USB hub - a USB extension cable. If you connect USB HDD to this unit, use the USB cable that is supplied with the HDD. If the USB HDD is not recognized, the power to the USB HDD may not be supplied. Supply power from an external source.
Images from this unit do not appear on the TV screen, or they are distorted.
An incorrect resolution is selected in "Video Format". Reset the setting as follows: The connected devices are changed. Reset the setting as follows: ① While the unit is on, press and hold [OK], the yellow button, and the blue button on the remote control at the same time for more than 5 seconds. - POWER LED starts to flash.
② Press [8] and the blue button on the remote control at the same time for more than 5 seconds.
Set the item again. (→ 28)
- When Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, and DTS-HD® audio are not output properly, select "Yes" in "Default Settings" (⇔ 33) and make proper settings. - "4K(50p/60p) Output" will be set to "Off". Make the correct setting again. (⇔ 28)
▶ PAL discs cannot be correctly viewed on an NTSC TV. When "3D BD-Video Playback" in the Setup menu is set to "Automatic", images may not be output depending on the connection method. After removing the disc from this unit, select "Set before play" in the Setup menu, and select "2D Playback" in the setup screen displayed when playing 3D discs. (→ 31) When outputting in 4K, images may be distorted depending on the HDMI cable. Use an HDMI cable that supports 18 Gbps.
Video is not output.
▶ Video is not output when the "High Clarity Sound" is set to "On (Video Off)". (⇒ 27) Video from the HDMI AUDIO OUT terminal is not output when the "HDMI(AUDIO) Output Mode" is set to "Audio Only". (⇒ 28)

Confirm that "Video Format" in the Setup menu is set properly. (→ 28) Confirm the HDMI cable, related connections and the compatibility of TV video input. To output images in 4K, connect the HDMI cable to a 4K compatible terminal of the connected device. (→ 10) Set "HDMI(AUDIO) Output Mode" to "Audio Only". (→ 28) To enjoy image in 4K (50p/60p), set "4K(50p/60p) Output" to "4K(50p/60p) 4:4:4" or "4K(50p/60p) 4:2:0". (→ 28) If "4K(50p/60p) Output" is set to "4K(50p/60p) 4:4:4", check to see if the connected HDMI cable supports 18 Gbps. (⇒ 10, 28) If 4K images are not output from the connected 4K-compatible TV, set "4K(50p/60p) Output" to "4K(50p/60p) 4:4:4" or "4K(50p/60p) 4:2:0". (→ 28) When the unit is connected to a TV that supports formats up to 4K(50p/60p) 4:2:0 or "4K(50p/60p) Output" is set to "4K(50p/60p) 4:2:0", material recorded in 4K(50p/60p) cannot be output in HDR. To play back material recorded in 24p, set "24p Output" to "Automatic". (→ 28)
Cannot output video in HDR quality even when connected to an HDR-compatible TV.
When connected to a device or terminal that does not support HDR, this unit applies Dynamic Range Conversion to HDR signals to output them. In addition, depending on the disc, it may not be possible to output content in 2K resolution or perform playback correctly (→ 20)
Video may not be output from your TV in HDR quality, depending on the content. Set "HDR (High Dynamic Range) Output" and "HLG / PQ Conversion" to "Automatic". (→ 29)
3D video is not output.
- Connect to a 3D compatible device (e.g., TV and amplifier/receiver). When a non-3D compatible amplifier/receiver is connected between this unit and a TV, 3D video is not output. (⇔ 12) If there is a non-3D compatible amplifier/receiver connected to the HDMI AUDIO OUT terminal, set the 'HDMI(AUDIO) Output Mode' to 'Audio Only'. (→ 28) ▶ Confirm the settings on this unit and the TV for 3D. (⇒ 20)
3D video is not output correctly as 2D.
Select "Set before play" in the Setup menu, and select "2D Playback" in the setup screen displayed when playing 3D discs. (⇔ 31. "3D BD-Video Playback") Discs that have recorded titles with Side by side (2 screen structure) and that can be enjoyed in 3D are played back in accordance with the settings of the TV.
No picture is output from Netflix.
When the unit is connected to a TV that does not support HDCP2.2 via an amplifier or speaker, it may not be possible to view Netflix.*
If HDCP2.2 is not supported by your TV, try either of the following solutions:
- Connect the unit and the TV directly. (→ 11.12) - Set "HDCP Output Setting" to "HDCP1.4 Limit". (→ 29)
* This limitation is due to a specification defined by Netflix, Inc. Press [RETURN] if a black screen is displayed.
A black band is displayed around the edge of the screen.
The aspect ratio of the screen is abnormal. ▶ Adjust the aspect setting on the TV.
There is a lot of image lag when playing video. ▶ Set "0" all items in the "Noise Reduction". (⇒ 26)

Cannot hear the desired audio.
Check the connections and the "Digital Audio Output" settings. (⇒ 11, 30) To output audio from a device connected with an HDMI cable, set "Audio Output" to "On" in the Setup menu. (→ 29) When connecting this unit to a TV via an HDMI VIDEO OUT and to an amplifier/receiver via an HDMI AUDIO OUT, set "HDMI(VIDEO) Output Mode" to "Automatic (Video Only / Video+Audio)". (→ 11, 28)
There is no sound coming out.
To output audio using OPTICAL terminal, set "OPTICAL Down Sampling" properly. (→ 30)

The audio output is amplified from 5.1ch or 6.1ch to 7.1ch.
