The longest-running symphonic drama, The Lost Colony, is performed on an outdoor theatre in North Carolina. Now in its 82nd season, the theatre has 24 PSA mics that stand up to the outdoor elements including water—both rain and sweat—as well as wind and heat.

As Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas toured the UK at the end of 2019, virtuoso violinist Sandy Cameron received a new miking technique thanks to Point Source Audio's EMBRACETM EO-8WL earmount microphone. Reflecting on the tour, both Paul Bevan, the sound engineer, and Cameron have been highly impressed. "It sounded much more natural to her and I had to do almost no EQ-ing to get it to sound just like the acoustic instrument," says Bevan. "There was so much gain before feedback that we were never close to ringing – even in arenas, with huge PA systems and a full monitor system. An added bonus was that as the microphone was attached to Sandy, and not the violin, she could put it down and walk away. After a few years of using a clip-on, it took her a while to remember that she had this freedom! Also, because the microphone was hidden by her hair, it was completely invisible to the audience, even on tight camera shots. The clip-on with attached cable always looked untidy."

Broadcast Studio Televisa Adopts EMBRACE™

A rapid and Concealable Mic'ing System for its Television Productions

EMBRACE mics have allowed them to wire the actors so much faster.

Televisa, the television studio and broadcast behemoth, added Point Source Audio's EMBRACE EO-8WL microphones for use in their popular telenovela and music competition reality productions.

Headquartered in Mexico City, Televisa is considered to be one of the largest mass media conglomerates and content creators in Latin America. The vast majority of its programming is for the Hispanic market with much of its content airing in the United States.

With traditional lavaliers, it used to take a lot of time to wire an actor and to conceal it for television. EMBRACE mics have allowed them to wire the actors faster while reducing noise problems with clothing, jewelry, or chest hair when using traditional lavs.

GO-8WM Moldable Mics Capture the Fierce Fight Sounds of Cirque du Soleil's R.U.N

Renowned sound designer Jonathan Deans says Point Source GO-8WM mics shine onstage with R.U.N for many reasons. First, they offer superior fidelity. "I need good quality," he says. "I want to be able to capture the true sound of what's going on." Point Source GO-8WM mics are unconventionally malleable: "We could just shape them to whatever form we wanted, not knowing exactly how the performers' moves would work and whether they would feel comfortable about how it would be best placed on them," he explains. The body-fitted Point Source GO-8WM moldable microphones turned stunt performers into "moving mic stands" onstage. The transmitter and the microphone needed to be located where they could capture the sounds—not just of the performers—but the sound around them.

"It's a completely unconventional way that we're using microphones.

A worthwhile Investment of "In-Ear" Headsets

Jared Olson is production director at Elevation's Ballantyne Campus. Olson says, "I wear mine for 8-10 hours a day every Saturday and Sunday. I've had the same headset for four years with no problems. Any production I do, I do with this headset. I wear glasses and any muff-style headset gives me a headache." Olson continues, "Most of the techs have custom in-ear molds and you can easily replace the stock or standard earbuds with your in-ear molds. It's even more comfortable, and also provides an added measure of isolation. Olson wears the headset listening to rehearsals, front-of-house mixes or the streaming mix, as well as for conducting party line communication with camera operators, graphics, the stage, the band—the full production team.
