Frequently Asked Questions - P116-003-HD-U Tripp Lite

How do I install the P116-003-HD-U?
Ensure all devices are powered off. Connect the built-in VGA cable to your computer's VGA port, and the built-in USB cable to a USB port. Then connect an HDMI cable (sold separately) from the adapter's HDMI output to your display. Power on your devices; the LED will turn red then blue when active.
What video resolutions are supported?
The adapter supports resolutions up to 1920 x 1080 (1080p) with 24-bit True Color and a video transfer rate of 6.75 Gbps.
Does this adapter require an external power supply?
No, it is USB-powered directly from your computer. No external power adapter is needed.
What does the LED indicator mean?
The LED lights red when the adapter is connected to power, and turns blue when it begins transmitting video to the display.
Is the adapter compatible with both Windows and Mac?
Yes, it works with any operating system that supports VGA and USB output. However, check your system requirements for proper driver support (most systems are plug-and-play).
Does it transmit audio?
Yes, it converts 2-channel stereo audio from the USB connection and embeds it into the HDMI signal, so your HDMI display can play sound.
What type of HDMI cable should I use?
Tripp Lite recommends using P568-Series High-Speed HDMI Cables for optimal performance. Any standard HDMI cable should work, but high-speed cables are best for 1080p.
My display shows no signal. What should I do?
Check that all cables are securely connected. Ensure your computer's VGA and USB ports are active. Try a different HDMI cable or input on your display. Also verify that the LED is blue; if red, the adapter may not be receiving a video signal.
Can I use this adapter with a projector?
Yes, as long as the projector has an HDMI input. The adapter works with any HDMI-compatible display, including monitors, TVs, and projectors.
What is the warranty coverage?
The P116-003-HD-U comes with a 1-Year Limited Warranty. To obtain service, you must obtain an RMA number from Tripp Lite and return the product with proof of purchase.
