Frequently Asked Questions - ALA15T Atlas Sound

How do I connect the ALA15T speaker to an amplifier?
Ensure the amplifier is powered off. Use the barrier terminal strip for 70.7V or low impedance connections. For low impedance (8Ω or 6Ω), remove the jumper on the terminal block. Alternatively, use the NL4 Speakon connector for low impedance. Select the appropriate power tap (7.5, 15, 30, or 60W) for 70.7V systems.
What are the available power taps on the transformer?
The built-in 60W 70.7V transformer offers taps at 7.5, 15, 30, and 60 watts. Select the tap that matches your system requirements.
Can I use the ALA15T as a low impedance speaker?
Yes. Remove the jumper on the barrier terminal block to enable low impedance operation at 8Ω or 6Ω. You can also use the NL4 Speakon connector for direct low impedance connection.
What safety precautions should I follow during installation?
Always turn off the amplifier before making connections. The speaker can produce high sound pressure levels that may cause permanent hearing damage; avoid prolonged exposure. Overhead mounting must be performed by qualified installers following local building codes.
How do I mount the speaker to a wall?
Attach the wall bracket to the wall using appropriate anchors (not included). Use a level to ensure it is straight. Attach the speaker bracket to the sliding mount block, then connect to the wall bracket. Adjust horizontal position and tighten bolts. Refer to the manual for angle adjustment tables.
What is the difference between the short, medium, and long speaker brackets?
The bracket lengths determine the tilt angle of the speaker. Use the short bracket for parallel mounting, medium for lower tilt angles, and long for higher tilt angles. See the manual for exact angle vs. bracket spacing calculations.
Is the ALA15T suitable for outdoor use?
The manual does not specify outdoor rating. It is designed for indoor commercial/industrial use. For outdoor installation, consult Atlas Sound technical support.
What hardware is not included with the speaker?
The wall anchors and screws for attaching the wall bracket to the wall are not included. You must provide appropriate hardware for your wall type.
How do I adjust the horizontal position of the speaker after mounting?
Loosen the bolts on the sliding mount blocks, slide the speaker to the desired position, then retighten the bolts. Ensure the assembly is secure.

Hearing Damage

CAUTION: All professional loudspeaker systems are capable of generating very high sound pressure levels. Use care with placement and operation to avoid exposure to excessive levels that can cause permanent hearing damage.

Suspension and Mounting

Installing speaker systems requires training and expertise. Improper speaker installation may result in injury, death, equipment damage, and legal liability. Installation must be carried out by fully qualified installers, in accordance with all required safety codes and standards at the place of installation.

Legal requirements for overhead installation vary by municipality, please consult the Building Inspector office before installing any product and thoroughly check any laws and bylaws prior to installation. Installers that lack the skills, training, and proper ancillary equipment to install a speaker system should not attempt to do so.

Installation

  1. Run the wiring from the power amplifier to the location desired for mounting the ALA Series speaker.
  2. Attach the wall bracket to the wall. Use a level to be certain that the wall bracket is straight. Secure the wall bracket to the wall. Be sure to use the appropriate wall anchors when attaching the bracket. Use all four screw holes for maximum integrity and safety.
Note: Hardware for attaching the wall bracket to the wall is not included.

  1. Attach the upper wall bracket as required.

A. The location of the upper wall bracket will vary according to the angle that the speaker will be used.
B. If the speaker will be parallel to the wall, the upper wall bracket can be located 25" to 38" center to center. Two short speaker brackets, one on the top and one on the bottom will be used. Refer to figure 2a.
C. For an angled installation, please refer to the tables and figures below to determine the center to center distance for the wall brackets.
D. For higher angles of tilt, use the long speaker bracket. Refer to figure and table 2b.
E. For lower angles of tilt, use the medium speaker bracket. Refer to figure and table 2c.
