Frequently Asked Questions - SMP1050 SYLVANIA

How do I transfer music to my Sylvania SMP1050?
You can transfer music in two ways: As a USB Disk (drag and drop files) or Using Windows Media Player (WMP) for synchronized media. For USB Disk mode, set 'Online Device' to 'USB Disk' in the SYS menu, connect to PC, and drag files into the removable drive. For WMP sync, set 'Online Device' to 'Media Device' and use Windows Media Player 10 on Windows XP SP2.
Why does the player say 'Empty Disk' even after I put songs on it?
This often indicates low battery power. Replace the AAA battery with a new one and try again. If the issue persists, format the player's memory (see manual) but back up your data first.
How do I synchronize music with Windows Media Player?
First, set 'Online Device' to 'Media Device' in the SYS menu. Then connect the player to your PC. When the dialog appears, choose 'Synchronize media files to this device using Windows Media Player'. WMP will detect the player, and you can drag songs into the Sync List and click 'Start Sync'.
Can I play lyrics on this player?
Yes. You can create a .LRC file with synchronized lyrics (from internet or manually) and save it in the same folder as the MP3/WMA file. During playback, press and hold the MODE button for 2 seconds to display lyrics. Press MODE to exit.
How do I change the repeat or EQ settings?
While playing music, press the MODE button to enter the selection menu. Use left/right to choose 'Repeat' or 'Equal' (EQ), press MODE to enter, then select your desired mode (e.g., Repeat One, Random, Rock, Pop) and confirm with MODE.
How do I record voice on the SMP1050?
From the main menu, select 'REC' and press MODE to enter voice recording mode. Press Play/Pause to start recording, and hold MODE to save. Alternatively, in STOP mode press the REC button for quick access.
What types of batteries does the player use?
It uses a single AAA 1.5V alkaline battery (not included in all packages, but often comes with one). Rechargeable AAA batteries may work but are not officially supported.
How do I format the player's memory?
Connect the player to your PC as a USB Disk. Right-click the removable drive in My Computer and select 'Format'. This will erase all data, so back up important files first. After formatting, re-add music files.
The player freezes or buttons don't respond. What should I do?
Check if the HOLD switch is on (slide it off). If not, remove the battery for a few seconds, then reinsert. If still frozen, try resetting by connecting to a PC and formatting the device (backup data first).
How can I set the player to turn off automatically?
Go to SYS menu > Power off. Select the desired idle time (e.g., 5 min). If no buttons are pressed for that duration, the player will shut off. Set to '0' to disable auto-power-off.
