Frequently Asked Questions - Crossfire CF-4303 Vortex

How do I focus the Crossfire CF-4203 binoculars?
First, adjust the center focus wheel with your right eye closed until the image in your left eye is sharp. Then, while keeping the center focus fixed, close your left eye and rotate the diopter ring (on the right eyepiece) until the image in your right eye is sharp. After that, you only need to use the center focus for distance changes.
Can I wear eyeglasses while using these binoculars?
Yes, the eyecups are twist-up/down. For eyeglass wearers, twist the eyecups down to get your eye closer to the lens. For non-eyeglass users, keep them fully extended.
How do I clean the lenses properly?
First, blow or brush away any loose dust or grit. Then, breathe on the lens to create a light fog or use a drop of water, and gently wipe with a clean, dry lens cloth. For stubborn marks like fingerprints, use a small amount of isopropyl alcohol on the cloth. Avoid facial tissues or heavy cotton.
What is the VIP warranty?
The VIP (Very Important Promise) warranty is Vortex's unconditional lifetime warranty. If your binoculars become damaged or defective, Vortex will repair or replace them free of charge. It does not cover loss, theft, or deliberate damage. Call 800-426-0048 for service.
How do I adjust the interpupillary distance (IPD)?
Rotate the binocular barrels inward or outward until you see a single circular image without shading. The IPD is the distance between the centers of the two eye lenses.
What accessories come with the binoculars?
The Crossfire CF-4303 includes an eyepiece rainguard, tethered objective lens covers, a neckstrap, and a carrying case.
Are these binoculars waterproof or fogproof?
The manual does not specify, but many Vortex Crossfire models are O-ring sealed and nitrogen purged. However, always avoid submerging and allow to dry if exposed to moisture before storing.
What is the best way to store the binoculars?
Keep them in the provided case when not in use. Ensure the lenses are dry before storing. If the optics get wet, leave the covers off and let them dry completely before putting them in the case.
How do I attach the neckstrap?
Thread the strap end from bottom up through the attachment loop, then through the buckle. Adjust length and pull tight. Do not attach metal rings directly; use nylon zip ties if needed.
What should I avoid when using these binoculars?
Never look at the sun or any intense light source through binoculars, as it can cause permanent eye damage. Also avoid using harsh cleaning materials that might scratch the lenses.

USER MANUAL Crossfire CF-4303 Vortex

Caution

Binoculars are not intended for looking at the sun or other intense light sources. Such viewing could damage the retina and cornea of your eyes—even to the point of causing blindness.

BASIC OPERATION

Adjust the eyecups

Enjoy comfortable viewing even if you wear eyeglasses. Simply twist the eyecups up or down to see the full field of view. Keep the eyecups fully extended if you aren't wearing eyeglasses or sunglasses.

Adjust the interpupillary distance

The interpupillary distance (IPD) is the distance between the centers of the left and right pupil. Your binocular also has an IPD. To see a single image free of shading, rotate your binocular until its IPD aligns with your eyes.

Rotate the binocular barrels inward or outward to align the ocular lenses with your eyes.

Focus your binocular

For the best views, use the center focus and diopter to adjust for vision differences in each eye. Choose an object that is about 20 yards away from you and perform this two-step process:

Adjust the center focus. Close your right eye or cover the right objective lens with your hand.

Look at the object with your left eye and adjust the center focus dial until the image is in focus.

Note: Keep the center focus in this position as you adjust the diopter.

  1. Adjust the diopter. Close your left eye or cover the left objective lens with your hand and rotate the ring until the object is in focus. Note: Be sure to record this setting so you can go back to it if someone changes the diopter setting. After setting the diopter you only need

to use the center dial to focus your binocular. If your vision changes, you may need to repeat this process.

Accessories

Use the provided eyepiece rainguard and tethered objective lens covers to protect lenses when you are not using your binocular. Between viewing sessions, safely store your binocular in the case. Note: If the optics are exposed to moisture, keep the covers off and allow the optics to dry out completely before putting them in the case for storage.

Neckstrap

Securely attach the binocular strap to your binocular:

  1. Thread the end of the strap from the bottom up through the strap attachment loop.

  2. Hold the buckle and thread the end of the strap inside the buckle.

  3. Adjust the overall length and pull the strap webbing tight so it is secure within the buckle.

Note: Please do not thread a metal ring directly onto the strap attachment loop when attaching rings or clips for other aftermarket equipment. Instead, use nylon zip ties according to the manufacturer's instructions.

LENS CARE

Follow this two-step process to gently clean the exterior lenses of your binocular.

  1. Blow away any dust or grit before wiping the lens. Use a can of pressurized air, soft camel hair brush, or acrylic optical brush.
  2. Gently remove smudges, fingerprints, and eyelash oil from the lens. Use a small amount of water or your breath to moisten the lens then wipe away smudges with a clean lens cloth. Isopropyl alcohol can help remove marks like fingerprints.

Note: Avoid over-scrubbing lenses and always use a clean lens cloth—replace the dirty lens cloth with a new, clean lens cloth. Please do not use facial tissue, heavy cotton, or flannel cloth on the lenses because these

materials can scratch the lens surface.
