Frequently Asked Questions - PFA 9111 Vogel's

How do I connect the PFA 9111 speaker to an audio source?
Use the supplied stereo audio cable (cinch to jack 3.5mm). First connect the speaker to the audio source, then connect the 12V power supply, and finally plug the power supply into a mains outlet.
How do I turn on and off the speaker manually?
Turn the volume knob clockwise to switch on and increase volume. Turn counterclockwise to switch off and decrease volume. The amplifier will not switch on immediately; wait until the green LED flashes once (power saving function). When switched on, both green and red LEDs flash once, then green stays on. When off, green LED flashes every 3-4 seconds (standby).
How do I control the speaker via RS232 or RS485?
Use readable ASCII commands based on the AMX/Crestron Basic Control Structure (BCS) protocol. Baudrate: 9600, 8 bits (8n1). When RS232/485 is active, the volume knob is ignored. Commands include COVA (volume), SOVAT (volume status), COVMT (switch off), COVUT (switch on), SOST (status request), COPT (potentiometer mode).
What does the green and red LED indicate?
Green LED on: amplifier is on. Red LED: error signal. If both flash together, it indicates a warning. Standby: green LED flashes every 3-4 seconds.
What are the pin assignments for the RS232 and RS485 connectors?
The connector has 5 pins: Pin1 GND, Pin2 RS232 TX, Pin3 RS232 RX, Pin4 RS485+ (non-inverting), Pin5 RS485- (inverting). For RS232, connect to PC: Pin2 (RX) to PC TX, Pin3 (TX) to PC RX, Pin5 GND. For RS485, recommended use UT-850 USB-RS485 cable: Pin1 T/R+(A+), Pin2 T/R-(B-), Pin5 GND.
What is the maximum volume in dB?
Volume range is -100 to 0 dB, where 0 is maximum amplification. At -100 dB, the amplifier switches to standby.
Can I use the speaker with other video conferencing equipment?
Yes, the PFA 9111 is designed for video conferencing with RS232/485 communication for integration with other equipment.
How should I clean the speaker?
Wipe the surface with a dry, soft cloth. Do not use water, solvents, or abrasive cleaners.
What is the power consumption of the speaker?
The speaker operates on 100-230V AC, 50/60Hz. The supplied power adapter is 12V 2A. Exact power consumption is not specified.
Is there a warranty for the Vogel's PFA 9111?
Refer to the purchase documentation. Vogel's products are covered by manufacturer warranty; contact Vogel's customer service for details.

• Only use the supplied power supply.
- First connect the loudspeaker to the audio source with the supplied audio cable.
• Then connect the 12V plug from the power supply.
• Only then plug the power supply into a mains source.

Manualoperation:

• Switching on and volume up: turn volume knob right, clockwise.
• Switching off and volume down: turn volume knob left, counter clockwise.
- The amplifier will not switch on immediately after turning the volume knob, it will wait till the green LED has flashed once. This is part of the power saving function.
- When the amplifier is switched on the green and red LED will flash once. After that the green LED will stay on.
- When the amplifier is switched off, the green LED will flash every 3-4 seconds as stand-by indication. This is also the RS232/485 monitor moment.

RS232/RS485operation:

  • When the amplifier is switched on (green LED on), it will scan the RS232 and RS485 ports on activity.
  • When the amplifier detects activity on one of the ports it will switch to this port. The other port will be ignored as long as power is on.
    • Scanning of the ports will be resumed only when the power is switched off and on again.
  • When the amplifier is RS232 / RS485 operated, the position of the volume knob will be ignored.
  • When the amplifier is switched off via the RS232 / RS485 ports is will scan these ports every 3-4 seconds on new activities.

RS232 / RS485 Protocol:

• The amplifier is operated by readable ascii commands.
• These commands can, as example, be send and viewed by a terminal emulation program.

○ Baudrate: 9600

○ 8 Bits (8n1)

• The operation is based on the Basic Control Structure (BCS) Protocol of AMX/Crestron.
