Frequently Asked Questions - MWH6045B Chief

How do I install the MWH6045B wall mount?
First, locate a wood stud and drill pilot holes. Use two people to place the mount against the wall, align with stud, and secure with lag bolts. Install channel covers and end caps. Then attach the display using the ClickConnect mechanism. Always follow the manual's safety warnings.
What is the maximum weight capacity of this mount?
The MWH6045B has a weight capacity of 100 lbs (45.36 kg). Ensure the combined weight of your display and any accessories does not exceed this limit.
Is this mount compatible with my display?
The mount supports VESA 200x200mm patterns directly. For other patterns, you need a custom interface bracket. Also verify that your display weight is within 100 lbs and that the wall structure can support five times the total weight.
How do I adjust the tilt of the display?
Tilt adjustment is done by tightening or loosening two screws on each side of the mount using a 5/32" hex wrench. The tilt range is +5° to -15°.
How do I adjust the roll (horizontal level) of the display?
Loosen the roll tension adjustment nut on the back of the faceplate, level the display, then tighten the nut. The roll adjustment range is ±2.5°.
How do I adjust the swing arm tension?
Locate the adjustment bar and wrench. Insert the bar into the socket head cap screw at the swing arm pivot. Turn clockwise to increase tension or counterclockwise to decrease. Make 1/8 turn adjustments and test until desired tension is achieved.
Does the mount include cable management?
Yes, the MWH6045B has cable clamps and channels in the arms. Use the provided cable ties to secure power, audio, and video cables. Ensure cables do not run through pinch points.
Can I install this mount on a concrete wall?
The manual only covers installation on wood studs. For concrete walls, you must use appropriate concrete anchors (not included). It is crucial that the wall can support five times the total weight. Consult a professional if unsure.
What tools are needed for installation?
You will need a stud sensor, a pencil, a drill with a 7/32" (6mm) drill bit, a Phillips screwdriver, a hex wrench (5/32"), and a open-ended wrench. Most hardware is included.
How do I remove the display from the mount?
Lift the display slightly to disengage the ClickConnect mechanism, then lift it off the mounting buttons. If a padlock is used, remove it first. Always use two people and lift carefully.

Mount Installation

Chief MWH6045B - Mount Installation - 1

WARNING: IMPROPER INSTALLATION CAN LEAD TO MOUNT FALLING CAUSING SERIOUS PERSONAL INJURY OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT! It is the installer's responsibility to make sure the structure to which the MWH is being installed is capable of supporting five times the combined weight of the mount and all attachments.

  1. Determine mounting location taking into consideration display size and mount movement.
  2. Using a stud sensor locate stud. (See Figure 2)
  3. Using two people, place mount against wall and level mount aligning mounting holes in upper and lower wall channels with stud. (See Figure 2)

NOTE: Horizontal location can be adjusted right or left as long as the upper and lower mounting holes align with one another on stud.

  1. Use a pencil mark two mounting holes making sure mounting holes are located as close as possible to center of stud. (See Figure 2)

  2. Drill two pilot holes where the mounting holes were marked using a 7/32" (6mm) drill bit. (See Figure 2)

  3. Install one 5/16" x 2-1/2" lag bolt (G) and one 5/16" flat washer (H), through mounting holes in upper wall channel and into pilot hole. DO NOT tighten at this time. (See Figure 3)

  4. Using two people place mount against wall aligning mounting holes in upper wall channel with lag bolt and hang mount on lag bolt making sure washers are located in front of mount.

  5. Install one 5/16" x 2-1/2" lag bolt (G) and one 5/16" flat washer (H), through mounting holes in lower wall channel

and into pilot hole. (See Figure 3)

  1. Tighten all hardware. DO NOT overtighten!

Display Installation

If the mounting pattern of the display being installed is a VESA standard 200 x 200 pattern the mounting buttons can be installed directly to the back of the display. If the display has any other mounting pattern an interface bracket must be obtained before proceeding. Consult a Chief Customer Service representative if an interface bracket is required by calling 1-800-582-6480 or visit www.chiefmfg.com.

Chief MWH6045B - Display Installation - 1

WARNING: IMPROPER INSTALLATION CAN LEAD TO MOUNT FALLING CAUSING SEVERE PERSONAL INJURY OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT. Displays can weigh in excess of 40 lbs (18.1kg). ALWAYS use two people and proper lifting techniques when installing display.

Chief MWH6045B - Display Installation - 2

WARNING: IMPROPER INSTALLATION CAN LEAD TO MOUNT FALLING CAUSING SEVERE PERSONAL INJURY OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT. Make sure mounting buttons on display are properly seated in mounting holes in faceplate.

To install display:

  1. Move mount faceplate to extended position by grasping faceplate and pulling outward away from wall. (See Figure 5)
  2. While supporting both sides of display, align four mounting buttons on display or interface bracket with four mounting holes in faceplate. (See Figure 5)
  3. Lower display into place listening for audible "click" to ensure recessed area of mounting buttons are properly seated in lower area of mounting holes and "click lock" mechanism has engaged. (See Figure 5) and (See Figure 6)

Technical diagram showing a mechanical assembly with numbered components and directional arrows indicating movement or force.

Figure 5

NOTE: Holes are provided in the faceplate for use with a padlock or similar locking device, if desired. In addition, the pin and nut may be removed from the upper holes and moved to the lower holes for use as a more permanent locking device. (See Figure 6)

Remove pin and nuts and move to lower holes. A padlock or bolt may be placed through latch holes

CABLE MANAGEMENT

Chief MWH6045B - CABLE MANAGEMENT - 1

WARNING: IMPROPER INSTALLATION CAN LEAD TO SERIOUS PERSONAL INJURY OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT! Make sure cables do not run through pinch points.

  1. Loosen front and rear cable clamps on top arm. (See Figure 7)
  2. Thread cable ties (E) under cable clamps and secure clamps to top arm. (See Figure 7)
  3. Route power/audio/video cables through the cable channel in top arm (See Figure 7), allowing sufficient slack in cables for left/Right movement of display and swing arm and also swing arm extension and retraction.
  4. Secure cables to top arm using two cable ties (E).
  5. Repeat steps 1 through 4 for lower arm.

Roll Adjustment

The MWH allows for the horizontal alignment (Roll) of the display to be adjusted up to 2 deg. right or left to level the display after installing.

To adjust Roll:

  1. Loosen the roll tensions adjustment nut located on the back side of the faceplate assembly. (See Figure 9)
  2. Level display.
  3. Tighten roll tension adjustment nut. (See Figure 9)

Figure 9

Swing Arm Tension Adjustment

Swing arm tension is pre-set at the factory and is adjusted to accommodate displays with weights near the top of the mounts capacity.

If smaller displays are used it may be difficult to reposition the display after mounting. Swing arm tension can be adjusted to compensate for smaller display by:

The display must be mounted prior to adjusting swing arm tension.

  1. Locate the adjustment bar (H) and adjustment wrench (J).
  2. Place adjustment bar (H) into socket head cap screw located at swing arm pivot point. (See Figure 10)

NOTE: The display may need to be repositioned in order to gain access to the tension adjustment screw(s).

  1. Check swing arm tension. If desired tension is present, tension adjustment is complete. If additional tension adjustment is required, repeat steps 2 thru 4 until desired tension is achieved.

NOTE: If changing from a smaller display to a larger display may be necessary to increase swing arm tension.
