Frequently Asked Questions - VM-98-SHL Watson

How do I check the battery level?
Press the battery level check button on the battery. The 5-segment LED meter will illuminate to show remaining capacity. When capacity is below 9%, the bottom LED will flash.
Can I charge the battery while using it to power a device?
Yes, the battery supports pass-through. You can connect a charger to the D-tap or use the USB output while charging, but ensure the charger and load do not exceed the battery's maximum ratings.
What devices are compatible with the Watson VM-98-SHL battery?
It is designed for professional cameras and accessories with a V-Mount interface. Additionally, it can power USB devices (5V/1A) and 12V accessories via the D-tap port (12V/10A max).
How long does the battery last on a single charge?
The average runtime is approximately 2.5 hours at a 35W load. Actual runtime depends on the power consumption of your equipment.
Is the battery protected against damage?
Yes, it has a built-in intelligent control circuit with protection against over-current, low voltage, overheating, and short circuits. It also includes a self-resetting fuse.
How should I store the battery if not used for a long time?
For long-term storage (over 4 months), charge the battery to 50% and store in a cool, dry place at 23°F to 86°F (-5°C to 30°C) with 45-75% relative humidity. Recharge to 50% every 4 months.
What is the difference between V-Mount and 3-stud mount?
The VM-98-SHL uses a V-Mount interface, common on many professional cameras. The AM-98-SHL model uses a 3-stud mount for different equipment. Both have identical electrical specifications.
Can I use the USB port while the battery is powering a camera?
Yes, the USB port provides 5V/1A independently, so you can charge a smartphone or power a small device while the D-tap or main output runs your camera.
How do I clean the battery?
Use a clean, soft, dry cloth to wipe the battery case and terminals. Do not use liquids or abrasive cleaners. Ensure the battery is disconnected from any equipment before cleaning.
What should I do if the battery gets hot?
It is normal for the battery to be warm during use or charging. If it becomes excessively hot, stop using it immediately and allow it to cool in a safe area. Check for any damage and contact support if needed.
