Caution for AC Mains Lead

For your safety, please read the following text carefully. This appliance is supplied with a moulded three pin mains plug for your safety and convenience.
A 5-ampere fuse is fitted in this plug.
Should the fuse need to be replaced, please ensure that the replacement fuse has a rating of 5 amperes and that it is approved by ASTA or BSI to BS1362.
Check for the ASTA mark or the BSI mark on the body of the fuse.
If the plug contains a removable fuse cover, you must ensure that it is refitted when the fuse is replaced.
If you lose the fuse cover, the plug must not be used until a replacement cover is obtained.
A replacement fuse cover can be purchased from your local dealer.
CAUTION!
IF THE FITTED MOULDED PLUG IS UNSUITABLE FOR THE SOCKET OUTLET IN YOUR HOME, THEN THE FUSE SHOULD BE REMOVED AND THE PLUG CUT OFF AND DISPOSED OF SAFELY. THERE IS A DANGER OF SEVERE ELECTRICAL SHOCK IF THE CUT-OFF PLUG IS INSERTED INTO ANY 13-AMPERE SOCKET.
If a new plug is to be fitted, please observe the wiring code as stated below.

The wires in this mains lead are coloured in accordance with the following code:
Blue: Neutral, Brown: Live.
As these colours may not correspond with the coloured markings identifying the terminals in your plug, proceed as follows:
The wire which is coloured Blue must be connected to the terminal which is marked with the letter N or coloured Black or Blue.
The wire which is coloured Brown must be connected to the terminal which is marked with the letter L or coloured Brown or Red.
WARNING: DO NOT CONNECT EITHER WIRE TO THE EARTH TERMINAL WHICH IS MARKED WITH THE LETTER E, BY THE EARTH SYMBOL OR COLOURED GREEN OR GREEN/YELLOW.

How to replace the fuse
The location of the fuse differs according to the type of AC mains plug (figures A and B). Confirm the AC mains plug fitted and follow the instructions below.
Illustrations may differ from actual AC mains plug.
- Open the fuse cover with a screwdriver.

- Replace the fuse and close or attach the fuse cover.

Safety precautions
Placement
Set the unit up on an even surface away from direct sunlight, high temperatures, high humidity, and excessive vibration. These conditions can damage the cabinet and other components, thereby shortening the unit's service life. Do not place heavy items on the unit.
Voltage
Do not use high voltage power sources. This can overload the unit and cause a fire. Do not use a DC power source. Check the source carefully when setting the unit up on a ship or other place where DC is used.
AC mains lead protection
Ensure the AC mains lead is connected correctly and not damaged. Poor connection and lead damage can cause fire or electric shock. Do not pull, bend, or place heavy items on the lead.
Grasp the plug firmly when unplugging the lead. Pulling the AC mains lead can cause electric shock. Do not handle the plug with wet hands. This can cause electric shock.
Foreign matter
Do not let metal objects fall inside the unit. This can cause electric shock or malfunction.
Do not let liquids get into the unit. This can cause electric shock or malfunction. If this occurs, immediately disconnect the unit from the power supply and contact your dealer.
Do not spray insecticides onto or into the unit. They contain flammable gases which can ignite if sprayed into the unit.
Service
Do not attempt to repair this unit by yourself. If sound is interrupted, indicators fail to light, smoke appears, or any other problem that is not covered in these instructions occurs, disconnect the AC mains lead and contact your dealer or an authorized service center. Electric shock or damage to the unit can occur if the unit is repaired, disassembled or reconstructed by unqualified persons.
Extend operating life by disconnecting the unit from the power source if it is not to be used for a long time.

■ Handling precautions
- Do not attach labels or stickers to discs (This may cause disc warping, rendering it unusable).
- Do not write on the label side with a ball-point pen or other writing instrument.
- Do not use record cleaning sprays, benzine, thinner, static electricity prevention liquids or any other solvent.
- Do not use scratch-proof protectors or covers.
- Do not use the following discs:
– Discs with exposed adhesive from removed stickers or labels (rented discs etc).
– Discs that are badly warped or cracked. - Irregularly shaped discs, such as heart shapes.
STEP 1 Connection to a television
- Do not place the unit on amplifiers or equipment that may become hot. The heat can damage the unit.
- Do not connect through the video cassette recorder. Due to copy guard protection, the picture may not display properly.
- Turn off all equipment before connection and read the appropriate operating instructions.
- Connect the terminals of the same colour.
- Unless otherwise indicated, illustrations are of the models for areas except the United Kingdom. (The United Kingdom: There is no S VIDEO OUT terminal on the unit.)

DVD-K32 only
■ Connect to the ground terminal
Ground the unit by connecting a copper wire to the screw on the back of the unit and the ground terminal to prevent static electricity buildup caused by the karaoke microphone.

STEP 2 The remote control
■ Batteries
- Insert so the poles (+ and -) match those in the remote control.
- Do not use rechargeable type batteries. Do not:
- mix old and new batteries.
- use different types at the same time.
- heat or expose to flame. • take apart or short circuit.
- attempt to recharge alkaline or manganese batteries.
- use batteries if the covering has been peeled off.
Mishandling of batteries can cause electrolyte leakage which can damage items the fluid contacts and may cause a fire.
Remove if the remote control is not going to be used for a long period of time. Store in a cool, dark place.
Use
Aim at the remote control sensor (→ page 8), avoiding obstacles, at a maximum range of 7 m directly in front of the unit.
STEP 3 Setting up the unit
Changing the unit's setting to suit your television.

Preparation
Turn on the television and select the appropriate video input on the television to suit the connections for the player.
1 Press [⏻] to turn on the unit. 2 Press [SETUP] to display "MAIN" menu.

Selecting menu language
Choose the preferred language for these menus and the on-screen messages (Default setting is "ENGLISH").
3 Press [▲▼] to select "DISPLAY" tab and press [ENTER]. 4 Press [▲▼] to select "LANGUAGE" and press [ENTER]. 5 Press [▲▼] to select the language and press [ENTER].

Selecting aspect ratio
Select the TV type and how to show images (Default setting is "4:3PAN&SCAN").
3 Press [▲▼] to select "VIDEO" tab and press [ENTER]. 4 Press [▲▼] to select "TV ASPECT" and press [ENTER]. 5 Press [▲▼] to select the item and press [ENTER].
To select how to show images made for 16:9 aspect screens on a 4:3 aspect television.
4:3 PAN & SCAN:
The sides of the picture are cut off so it fills the screen (unless prohibited by the disc).
4:3 LETTERBOX:
Picture is shown in the letterbox style.
4:3 ZOOM:
If you select 4:3 PAN & SCAN and there is no effect, select this and the image will display in 4:3 PAN & SCAN.



To select how to show images made for 4:3 aspect screens on a 16:9 aspect television.
16:9 NORMAL:
The picture is displayed as a horizontally stretched 16:9 image.

16:9 SHRINK:
The picture is displayed as a 4:3 ratio image in the center of the screen.

16:9 ZOOM:
The picture is adjusted horizontally to display a full screen image in 16:9 aspect ratio.

- Press [RETURN] to go back to the previous screen.
- Press [SETUP] to exit the screen.

Standby/on switch (⏻/l)
Press to switch the unit from on to standby mode or vice versa. In standby mode, the unit is still consuming a small amount of power.
Standby/on indicator (⏻)
When the unit is connected to the AC mains supply, this indicator lights up in standby mode and goes out when the unit is turned on.
Note
- DISCS CONTINUE TO ROTATE WHILE MENUS ARE DISPLAYED. Press [■] when you finish to preserve the unit's motor and your television screen.
- Total title number may not be displayed properly on R/+RW.

Displaying current playback condition (Quick OSD)
Press [QUICK OSD].

Current playback number
Press [▲▼] to change current/elapsed play time.

- To exit the screen, press [QUICK OSD].


Convenient when you want to skip commercials etc.
During play, press [M.SKIP] or [CM SKIP].
- This may not work depending on the play position.


Press [QUICK REPLAY] to skip back a few seconds.
- This may not work depending on the disc's recording.
- This does not work with +R/+RW.

2 Press [ZOOM] to select the zoom ratio.

②Start playing the Karaoke disc.

- Adjust the volume of the connected equipment (e.g. Television).
③Turn [VOLUME] (microphone volume controller) to adjust the volume of the microphone.

To turn on or off of vocal
1 Press [FUNCTIONS] several times to display the On-Screen Menu as below.
e.g. DVD-V (Karaoke discs)

2 Press [◀▶] to select “”.
3 Press [▲ ▼] to turn on or off of vocal.
- Depending on the type of disc, the settings may be different. Please read the disc's instructions for more details.
- If the picture is distorted when you enjoying karaoke, set Attenuator to "ON" (→ page 13, On-Screen Menu 2).
Changing the play sequences

Program play (up to 20 items)
1 While stopped, press [PLAY MODE] several times to select "OOO PROGRAM".
- When playing a disc with both MP3 and JPEG recorded, select "MUSIC PROGRAM" for MP3 or "PICTURE PROGRAM" for JPEG pictures. You cannot set both "MUSIC PROGRAM" and "PICTURE PROGRAM".
e.g. DVD-V
2 Press [▲▼] to select an item and press [ENTER].
- Repeat this step to program other items. - To select all items in a disc, title, or group, select "ALL" and press [ENTER]. - Press [▲▼] several times to go to the next page or previous page if any. - Press [RETURN] to return to the previous menu.

3 Press [▶] (PLAY) to start play.
Clearing the program
Press [▶] and then press [▲ ▼] to select the item and press [RETURN].
Clearing the whole program
Press [▶] several times to select "CLEAR ALL" and press [ENTER]. The whole program is also cleared when the unit is turned off or the disc tray is opened.
To exit the program screen
Press [PLAY MODE] several times.

Random play
CD VCD (up to 20 tracks)
MP3 JPEG (up to 24 groups/999 contents)
1 While stopped, press [PLAY MODE] several times to select "OOO RANDOM".
- When playing a disc with both MP3 and JPEG recorded, select "MUSIC RANDOM" for MP3 or "PICTURE RANDOM" for JPEG pictures.

Transfer Mode
If you have set "VIDEO OUT (I/P)" to "PROGRESSIVE"

- When the tray is opened, the setting will return to AUTO or AUTO1.
When playing PAL discs
AUTO: Automatically detects the film and video content, and appropriately converts it.
VIDEO: Select when using AUTO, and the content is distorted.
CINEMA: Select this if the edges of the film content appear jagged or rough when AUTO is selected. However, if the video content is distorted as shown in the illustration to the right, then select AUTO.

When playing NTSC discs
AUTO1 (normal): Automatically detects the film and video content, and appropriately converts it.
AUTO2: In addition to AUTO1, automatically detects film contents with different frame rates and appropriately converts it.

Troubleshooting guide
Before requesting service, make the following checks. If you are in doubt about some of the check points, or if the solutions indicated in the chart do not solve the problem, consult your dealer for instructions. (Reference pages are shown in parentheses.)
Power

■ Clean this unit with a soft, dry cloth
- Never use alcohol, paint thinner or benzine to clean this unit.
- Before using chemically treated cloth, read the instructions that came with the cloth carefully.

DVD-R/RW
• Discs must conform to UDF bridge (UDF 1.02/ISO9660). - This unit is not compatible with multi-session. The default session only is played.
CD-R/RW
• Discs must conform to ISO9660 level 1 or 2 (except for extended formats). - This unit is compatible with multi-session but if there are a lot of sessions it takes more time for play to start. Keep the number of sessions to a minimum to avoid this.
