Frequently Asked Questions - PAF-101 Whynter

How do I replace the filters?
To replace filters, unplug the unit, remove the front cover by lifting the three hinges, remove the old pre-filter, activated carbon filter, HEPA filter, and photocatalyst filter. Insert new filters in the correct order, replace the cover, and plug back in. Always replace filters with genuine Whynter parts.
How often should I replace the filters?
The pre-filter is washable and should be cleaned when dirty. The activated carbon and HEPA filters should be replaced every 2,000 hours of use. The photocatalyst filter should be replaced every 6 months (approx. 4,500 hours). The UV lamp has an average life of 3-5 years and should only be replaced by a qualified technician.
Can I wash the HEPA filter?
No, the HEPA filter is not washable. Do not wash or reuse the HEPA filter. It must be replaced when it reaches the end of its lifespan (every 2,000 hours). Washing can damage the filter media.
How do I clean the air purifier?
Clean the exterior surfaces with a dry cloth. For stubborn stains, use a damp cloth. Clean the air inlets and outlet with a dry cloth or vacuum cleaner. Do not use harsh detergents or solvents. The pre-filter can be rinsed with warm water (max 100°F) and dried completely before reinstalling.
What is the coverage area of the Whynter PAF-101?
The Whynter PAF-101 is designed to purify air in rooms up to 150 square feet (approx. 14 square meters). For optimal performance, ensure the unit is placed in a central location with at least 6 inches of clearance on all sides.
Can I replace the UV lamp myself?
No, the UV lamp should only be replaced by a qualified technician. The average service life of the UV lamp is 3-5 years. Do not attempt to replace the UV lamp on your own to avoid electrical shock or damage.
Can I use essential oils with this air purifier?
Yes, the Whynter PAF-101 has a scent sponge feature. Open the front cover, locate the scent sponge, and add one to two drops of your favorite scented oil. Do not overfill as excess oil may damage the unit.
Why is the unit not turning on?
Check that the power supply is securely connected and the outlet has power. Also, ensure the front cover is properly installed – the unit has a safety interlock that prevents operation if the cover is not correctly attached. If the problem persists, contact Whynter support.
What is the noise level of the air purifier?
The noise level is less than 45 dB, making it quiet enough for use in bedrooms or offices. On low speed it is even quieter, while high speed produces a slightly higher but still minimal sound.
What is covered under the warranty?
The Whynter PAF-101 comes with a 1-year limited warranty for the original owner in the 48 continental states. It covers defects in material and workmanship for the unit itself. Filters, accidental damage, misuse, and unauthorized repairs are not covered. Freight costs for returns after two months are the customer's responsibility.
