1. Description

1.1 Intended purpose

With the Powerfix PTW 1500 A1 patio heater, you can generate a warming infrared light.

It is not suitable for warming up nappy changing tables or pets.

This appliance is intended for private use and is not suitable for commercial purposes.

1.2 Scope of supply

1.3 Symbols on the appliance

The adjacent symbol 11 warns against infrared radiation:

• CAUTION risk category 2
• This product emits infrared radiation
- Avoid exposing the eyes
- Use a suitable screen or eye protection
- Do not look at the lamp for longer periods when in operation
- A distance of at least 1 m must be left between persons and the patio heater, to prevent the risk of injury due to infrared radiation.

1.4 How it works

The high-quality infrared tubes of the patio heater produce infrared radiation. The advantage of infrared radiation is that it scarcely heats the ambient air, preventing heat from being lost in the breeze. Instead,

only the surfaces that the infrared radiation comes into contact with are heated.

A built-in reflector bundles the infrared radiation, further reducing heat losses.

This guarantees a short heating-up time and a high energy yield.

The weather-proof aluminium casing in IP65 makes the patio heater insensitive to weather conditions such as rain or snow.

The supplied fastening elements allow the patio heater to be affixed to the wall such that it can be swivelled.

Children should always be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the device.

4.3 Protection against electric shock

Warning! The following safety information is intended to protect you against electric shock.

- Only plug the appliance into a correctly installed socket outlet with earthing contact.

- The appliance must be supplied via a residual current device (RCD). The rated current must be no larger than 30 mA.

- Do not use the appliance if it has fallen on the floor, received a hard blow or fallen into water. In this case, please contact our Service Centre. The contact data can be found in "Service Centre" on page 11.

- The appliance must not under any circumstances be used if it is damaged. Have the device repaired in such cases by a qualified specialist. The contact data can be found in "Service Centre" on page 11.

- Regularly check the mains cable 5 for damage.

- If the mains cable 5 for this appliance is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer or a person with similar qualifications in order to avoid a hazard. The contact data can be found in "Service Centre" on page 11.

- Never insert fingers or any objects through the protective guard 7 into the inside of the appliance.

- Never touch the appliance, the mains cable 5 or the mains plug with wet hands.

- Always unplug the mains cable 5 by gripping the plug. Never pull on the cable itself.

- Make sure that the mains cable 5 is not kinked or squashed.

- Make sure that the mains cable 5 is not damaged on sharp edges.

- Keep the mains cable 5 away from hot surfaces such as the top of a stove.

- Make sure that the mains cable 5 is not touching the appliance or in the radiated zone.

- Avoid using extension cables. An extension cable may only be used under very specific conditions:

- the extension cable must be suitable for the current rating of the appliance;

- the extension cable must be routed across surfaces or the floor (not allowed to hang in mid air); ensure the cable is out of the reach of children and does not pose a tripping hazard;

- never use a damaged extension cable;

- do not connect any other appliances to the mains socket as this could overload the mains supply (do not use multi-sockets).

- The appliance must not be operated with an external time switch or separate remote control system, such as a wireless remote control socket.

4.4 Protection against the danger of fire

Warning! As the appliance works at high temperatures, please observe the following safety information to prevent fire.

- While the appliance is operating, there must be no flammable objects (e.g. curtains, paper) in the immediate vicinity of the appliance.

- Never use the appliance to dry textiles or other items on, over or in front of the appliance.

- The appliance gets very hot during operation. Make sure that flammable material cannot be blown into or onto the appliance.

- To avoid overheating, the appliance must never be covered.

- Only mount the appliance using the supplied fastening bracket 10, to ensure the necessary distance from the rear wall.

- Ensure sufficient distance from the wall (min. 50 cm at the sides), ceiling (min. 20 cm), floor (min. 1.8 m), fixtures (min. 1 m) or other appliances (min. 1 m), to prevent damage or the risk of fire.

- Never operate the appliance in rooms where there is a risk of explosion or in the vicinity of flammable gases or liquids.

- The appliance must never be placed immediately beneath a wall socket, as the heat it generates could damage the electrical installation.

- Always check that air can freely enter and escape. Heat might otherwise build up inside the appliance.

- Never leave the appliance running when it is unattended. The presence of odour is almost always an indication of damage. If you notice any such odour, unplug the mains plug immediately and have the appliance inspected. The contact data can be found in "Service Centre" on page 11.

4.5 Protection against injury

Warning! To avoid injury, please observe the following information.

- Make sure that no one can trip over, get caught in or step on the mains cable 5.

- The appliance gets very hot during operation:

- Therefore never touch it when it is on:

• Never adjust the swivel angle during operation. If you need to alter the angle, wait for the appliance to cool down.
• The protective guard 7 takes a few minutes to cool down completely.
• Never touch the infrared tubes 2.

4.6 For the safety of your child

Warning! Children often cannot assess dangers correctly and are injured as a result. Please therefore observe the following:

• This product may only be used under adult supervision to ensure that children do not play with the appliance.
  • Always take care to ensure the appliance is kept out of the reach of children at all times.
• Ensure that the packing foil does not become a deadly trap for a child. Packing foils are not toys.

5. Unpacking and installing

Note As the appliance and heating elements are supplied with a thin film of grease, there might be a small amount of smoke and odour the first time the appliance is used. This is not harmful and will stop after a short while. Please ensure in the meantime that there is sufficient ventilation.

5.1 Unpacking the appliance

1. Take the appliance out of the packaging.
2. Remove the transport packaging.
3. Carefully remove the foam strips from the protective guard 7.
4. Check that the appliance shows no signs of damage.

5.2 Fixing to the wall

Warning! To prevent damage or the risk of fire:

- Ensure a sufficient distance from the wall (min. 50 cm at the sides), ceiling (min. 20 cm), floor (min. 1.8 m), fixtures (min. 1 m) or other appliances (min. 1 m).

- Only use the fastening bracket 10 provided for fixing the appliance to the wall, to ensure the necessary distance from the rear wall.

1. Select a place to put the appliance:

2. which complies with the safety instructions (see "4. Safety instructions" on page 4 and following);

3. no more than 5 m from the wall socket or wall connection

4. which is somewhat sheltered, so that the appliance is not shaken excessively by strong winds;

5. which enables the appliance to be swivelled down by 45^irc ;

6. at least 1 m from people, animals and plants;
   – with a wall that is sufficiently strong;
7. which complies with the distances shown in the sketch below:

Note: The appliance is manufactured entirely of rust-proof materials and can be exposed to normal environmental influences.

1. Drill 3 holes with diameter 10 mm in the wall, to match the holes in the fastening bracket 10. The drilling depth is approx. 55 mm.
2. Clean the drill hole from the drilling dust because the wall plugs 9 could otherwise jam.
3. Insert the wall plugs 9 into the holes. You can help with light hammers. The thread may not be damaged thereby.
4. Firmly screw in the fastening bracket 10.

Note: We recommend fastening the appliance to a solid wall of masonry or concrete.

1. Secure the appliance to the fastening bracket 10 using the supplied wing nuts with bolts 8.
2. Adjust the appliance to the desired swivel angle.
3. Tighten all bolts.

Note: You should make regular checks to see whether any bolts have loosened. Re-tighten the bolts if necessary.

5.3 Electrical connection with plug

Insert the mains plug into a wall socket that complies with the technical data (see "3. Technical data" on page 4).

Notes:

• The appliance consumes up to 7 amps (1500 watts) of electricity. If you have plugged other power consumers into the same circuit, check that the maximum load for the installed fuse is not exceeded, as otherwise the fuse will trip.
• Pay attention to regulations applicable to electrical connections in your country. If necessary, call in an electrician.

6. Operation

1. Switch the appliance on by inserting the plug into a mains socket that conforms to the technical data (see "3. Technical data" on page 4).

2. Switch the appliance off by removing the plug from the mains socket.

7. Cleaning

To ensure your product gives you lasting service, you should clean it regularly.

Warning! To avoid the danger of an electric shock or burning:

- Remove the mains plug before each clean.

- Allow the appliance to cool down.

- Never immerse the appliance in water.

1. Clean the appliance with a damp cloth. A little washing-up liquid may also be used.

Caution! Never use caustic or abrasive cleaning agents, as they could damage your appliance.

1. Wipe off with fresh water.

2. Do not use the appliance again until it is fully dry.

8. Disposal

8.1 Appliance

The symbol with the crossed-out rubbish bin on wheels means that within the European Union, the product must be disposed of to a sorted rubbish collection. This applies to the product and all accessories which are marked with this symbol. Marked products must not be disposed of via the regular domestic waste but must be handed in to a recycling centre for electrical or electronic devices. Recycling helps to reduce the use of raw materials and to relieve the environment. It is therefore imperative that you follow the disposal regulations applicable in your country.

8.2 Packaging

If you would like to dispose of the packaging, please observe the corresponding environmental regulations in your country.

You have a warranty on this product which is valid for 3 years from the date of purchase. In the event of this product being defective, you have statutory rights against the seller of the product. These statutory rights are not limited by our warranty as set out below.

9.1 Warranty conditions

The warranty period begins with the date of purchase. Please keep the original till receipt in a safe place. This is required as your proof of purchase.

If a defect in materials or workmanship occurs within three years of the date your product was purchased, we will repair or replace the product at our discretion at no charge to you. This service under warranty assumes that the defective product and the proof of purchase (till receipt) are submitted within the three-year period and that a brief description in writing is provided of what the defect is and when it occurred.

If the defect is covered by our warranty, the repaired product or a new one will be sent back to you. There is no new warranty period following repair or replacement of the product.

9.2 Warranty period and statutory claims relating to defects

The warranty period is not extended when a service is provided under warranty. This also applies to replaced and repaired parts. Any damage or defects present at purchase must be reported immediately the product is unpacked. Repairs incurred once the warranty period has expired are chargeable.

9.3 Scope of warranty

The product has been carefully manufactured in accordance with strict quality guidelines and was thoroughly checked before being delivered.

The warranty applies to defective materials or workmanship. This warranty does not extend to product parts exposed to normal wear and tear (and which can therefore be considered wear parts) or to damage to fragile parts such as switches, batteries or parts made of glass.

This warranty is void if the product is damaged or if it is not used or maintained properly. All the information in the operating instructions should be observed precisely to ensure that the product is used properly.

It is essential to avoid intended uses and actions which are discouraged or warned against in the operating instructions.

The product is intended for only private use and not for commercial purposes.

The warranty is void in the event of misuse, incorrect treatment, use of force or interference by anyone other than our authorized service centre.
