Frequently Asked Questions - Beogram CD 5500 BANG & OLUFSEN

How do I clean the CD lens on the Beogram CD 5500?
Use a CD lens cleaner disc specifically designed for CD players. Do not use alcohol or abrasive materials. Insert the cleaner, follow its instructions, and repeat monthly if needed.
My Beogram CD 5500 won't read a disc. What should I check?
First, check the disc for scratches or dirt. Clean it with a soft cloth from center to edge. Ensure the disc is inserted correctly (label side up). Try a different disc. If problem persists, the laser lens may need cleaning or the unit may require service.
Can I connect the Beogram CD 5500 to other Bang & Olufsen components?
Yes, it supports Beolink system integration. Use the appropriate Beolink cable for control and audio connection with compatible B&O receivers, amplifiers, and speakers.
What audio outputs does the Beogram CD 5500 have?
It has analog RCA stereo outputs and a digital optical (Toslink) output for connection to external DACs or digital amplifiers.
How do I program the playback order of tracks?
Press the PROGRAM button on the remote or front panel. Use the number keys to select track numbers in desired order, then press PLAY. You can usually store up to 20 tracks.
Is the Beogram CD 5500 compatible with CD-R and CD-RW discs?
Yes, it can play commercially pressed CDs as well as CD-R and CD-RW discs. However, recordable discs with severe scratches or errors may not play reliably.
What does the 'Repeat' function do?
Press REPEAT on the remote. Choose between Repeat One (repeat current track) or Repeat All (repeat entire disc). Press REPEAT again to cycle modes, or press STOP to cancel.
How do I clean the exterior of the player?
Use a soft, dry or slightly damp microfiber cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners. Do not spray liquid directly onto the unit. The aluminum front can be gently polished with a non-abrasive metal cleaner.
The disc tray does not open. What should I do?
Check if the unit is powered on. Try pressing the OPEN/CLOSE button firmly. If it still does not open, there may be a mechanical jam or motor failure. Do not force the tray; contact Bang & Olufsen service.
Where can I find spare parts or service for the Beogram CD 5500?
Authorized Bang & Olufsen service centers can provide spare parts and repair services. Check the B&O website for local service partners. Some third-party specialists may also work on vintage B&O components.

Setting up

Adjustment to room temperature

If the compact disc player is exposed to low temperatures, for instance during transport, and is then placed in a warm room, condensation can occur within the mechanism. If this happens, it will not play until the humidity falls to an acceptable level.

Therefore, allow the compact disc player to acclimatise to normal room temperature for at least an hour or two before use.

Making the compact disc player ready for use

Removing disc tray protection:

Press the left-hand side of the aluminium front panel to pop out the disc tray, then remove the cardboard. Keep the cardboard in a safe place for later use.

Removing transport screws:

Carefully turn the compact disc player upside down. Loosen the two transport screws on the base and place them in their storage holes as indicated by the drawing on the base.
