Frequently Asked Questions - SF26010N SWAN

How to prepare the griddle for first use?
Wash the non-stick plate with warm soapy water, rinse and dry thoroughly. Then heat the griddle for about 10 minutes on the highest setting to burn off any manufacturing residues. Let it cool, then wipe with a damp cloth. First use seasoning helps extend the non-stick life.
Can I use metal spatulas?
No, metal utensils can scratch the non-stick coating. Use silicone, wood, or plastic utensils to avoid damage.
How do I clean the griddle?
Unplug and let it cool completely. Wipe the plate with a damp cloth or sponge. Do not submerge in water or put in dishwasher. For stubborn residue, use a non-abrasive cleaner. Never use abrasive pads.
Why does the indicator light go on and off?
The thermostat cycles to maintain the set temperature. The light turns on when heating and off when the set temperature is reached. This is normal operation.
Can I cook frozen food directly on the griddle?
Yes, but the cooking time will be longer. Thawing first is recommended. Avoid placing very cold food on a hot surface to prevent thermal shock to the non-stick coating.
What is the maximum temperature?
The adjustable thermostat goes up to approximately 230°C. The exact temperature may vary.
Is the cooking plate removable?
No, the plate is fixed to the base for stability. Clean it in place. Do not attempt to remove.
How should I store the griddle?
Ensure it is completely cool. Wrap the power cord around the base or use a cord wrap. Store in a dry place, upright to save space. Do not place heavy items on top.
What should I do if the griddle stops heating?
Check the power outlet and plug. If the auto shut-off has activated, press the reset button (if available). If still not working, contact Swan customer service.
Can I use the griddle on an induction hob?
No, this is a self-contained electric appliance with its own heating element. It cannot be used on an induction hob or any other heat source.

HOW TO USE

Remove all packaging before using.

Next job, make some pancake batter! It is important to us that your first experience with the product is a positive one, so we recommend that for first time operation, use pancake/crepe batter ready mix from supermarket. It is inexpensive, and gives good results with very little waste.

Make up the pancake/crepe batter according to the instructions on the packet (we have included a couple of recipes later on if you want to make your own batter).

The important thing here is CONSISTENCY. The best mix consistency for using this type of machine is something similar to single cream

There are two methods. The first is best for pancakes, The second is best for thinner crepes

Method 1 (Pancakes)

Place on a flat stable surface. Connect the pancake maker to the mains, switch on and allow to preheat for a few minutes. The indicator light will go out when it has reached correct cooking temperature. Please do NOT touch the cooking surface as it becomes very hot of course.

Refer to images below for best technique.

Allow to cook for a couple of minutes then use the spatula to carefully turn it over.

Use the spatula again to fold the pancake and remove to a serving plate. If it is difficult to fold [too thick], add a little more milk to your mixture and try pouring a little quicker!

HOW TO USE

Method 2

This method is great for making those wafer thin crepes! It take a little practice though.

Hand using a black electric fan to lift a white circular object on a plain surface (no text or symbols visible)

Pour the mixture into a suitable dinner plate. Dip the inverted crepe maker into the mixture for 2 to 3 seconds

Hand holding a magnifying glass over a circular white object on a plain background (no text or symbols visible)

Lift out, hold for a second or two then turn over. There will be a very thin crepe applied to the cooking surface. Leave to cook for around 3 minutes.

Person using a spatula to spread food from a pan on a table (no text or symbols visible)

Carefully fold the crepe over on to itself. No need to flip as cooking from one side is sufficient. Remove to plate & repeat.
