Frequently Asked Questions - PDT-1415C Middle Atlantic

How do I configure the power strip for single or dual circuit operation?
For single circuit operation, connect the red and black wires together (line) and the gray and white wires together (neutral). For dual circuit operation, the black and white wires form circuit 1 (dark orange outlets) and the red and gray wires form circuit 2 (light orange outlets).
What is the difference between isolated and non-isolated ground?
In non-isolated ground, the green wire from outlets is connected to the J-box grounding stud along with the branch circuit ground. For isolated ground, the green wire is disconnected from the stud and connected to an isolated ground wire from the branch circuit, while the chassis is grounded separately. Isolated ground stickers are provided for identification.
What is the supplemental bonding point used for?
The supplemental bonding point allows bonding of the power strip to the metal rack or enclosure to enhance performance of electronic systems by reducing ground loops and interference.
What models are available?
The PDT Series includes models with 20A or 15A receptacles. Both are prewired with 12AWG wire. Corded models are also available. The number and type of receptacles vary by model.
Can I install this power strip myself?
No. Installation must be performed by qualified personnel (licensed electrician) to comply with safety codes and ensure proper grounding.
What are the safety precautions I should follow?
Do not use near water. Clean only with dry cloth. Do not run cord under carpeting or cover with rugs. Keep away from traffic areas. Do not expose to dripping or splashing. No user serviceable parts inside.
How do I clean the power strip?
Clean only with a dry cloth. Do not use any liquids or cleaning agents.
What is the warranty period and what does it cover?
The 3-year limited warranty covers defects in material or workmanship. It does not cover damage from acts of God, accident, misuse, abuse, negligence, modification, or improper installation. The remedy is limited to refund, repair, or replacement at the company's option.
Does the power strip come with a cord?
Corded models are available in the PDT Series. Check the specific model number to determine if it includes a cord.
Can this power strip be mounted in a standard rack enclosure?
Yes, it is designed for enclosure mounting. Use the provided mounting clips to install through slots or fixed position holes in a Middle Atlantic enclosure. Gently tap with palm to insert.

FIELD CONFIGURATION

GROUNDING

NON-ISOLATED GROUND RECEPTACLES:

The green wire extending from the outlets into the J-box is to be connected to the J-box grounding stud along with the ground wire from the incoming branch circuit. (Ground jumper on stud provided for ease of connections). If there is no ground conductor contained in the incoming branch circuit, a metallic conduit connection will act as the equipment grounding conductor. Although this metallic conduit grounding method is allowed by the National Electrical Code, this is not recommended for audio/video applications which should have an insulated grounding conductor run with the branch outlet circuit conductors.

ISOLATED GROUND RECEPTACLES:

The green wire extending from the outlets into the J-box must be disconnected from the J-box grounding stud. This wire is to be connected to an "isolated" (insulated) ground wire coming from the isolated ground branch circuit. This isolated ground wire will only be connected to the ground prongs in the receptacles. The power strip chassis must be connected to a separate ground wire, connected to the internal J-box grounding stud, or this chassis ground may be provided by a metallic conduit connection. Isolated ground stickers are provided. These stickers are to be applied adjacent to each receptacle to identify that the power strip has been wired using the isolated ground method. Although this metallic conduit grounding method is allowed by the National Electrical Code, this is not recommended for audio/video applications which should have an insulated grounding conductor run with the branch outlet circuit conductors.

CIRCUIT ARRANGEMENT

DUAL/SINGLE CIRCUIT OPERATION:

For single circuit operation, connect the red and black wires together (line) and connect the gray and white wires together (neutral).

For dual circuit operation, the black and white wires are circuit 1 (dark orange outlets). The red and gray wires are circuit 2 (light orange outlets).
