How do I install the Vello BG-S8 on my bike?

Mount the bracket on the handlebar or stem using the provided rubber shims and zip ties. Attach the sensor to the front fork and magnet to the spokes. Pair the computer with the sensor by spinning the wheel.

How do I replace the battery?

Open the battery compartment on the back using a coin or screwdriver. Remove the old CR2032 battery and insert a new one with the positive side up. Close the cover securely.

Is the Vello BG-S8 waterproof?

Yes, it has an IPX7 rating, meaning it can withstand immersion in up to 1 meter of water for 30 minutes. However, avoid prolonged submersion.

How do I reset the trip distance?

Press and hold the mode button for 3 seconds until the trip distance resets to zero. This clears the trip data but not the odometer.

Can I use the BG-S8 with a heart rate monitor?

Yes, the computer is compatible with ANT+ heart rate monitors. Pair it via the settings menu on the device.

Why is my speed reading erratic or zero?

Ensure the sensor is aligned with the magnet on the spoke (1-3 mm gap). Check battery in both sensor and computer. Re-pair the devices if needed.

How do I switch between km/h and mph?

Go to the settings menu by pressing the mode button for 5 seconds. Use the set button to toggle between units. Press mode again to save.

What does 'Odometer' mean and can it be reset?

The odometer is the total distance ever traveled. It cannot be reset by the user; it only resets when the battery is removed for a long time. To preserve data, change battery quickly.

Can I install the BG-S8 on a carbon handlebar?

Yes, but use the provided rubber pad to prevent slipping. Avoid overtightening the zip ties to protect the carbon.

How do I clean and maintain the computer?

Wipe the device with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use alcohol, ammonia, or abrasive cleaners. Remove the battery if storing for extended periods.

The Vello BG-S8 battery grip offers extended shooting time and a comfortable hand position when shooting in a vertical (portrait) orientation. It's compatible with the Sony a6600 mirrorless camera, and it accepts up to two Sony NP-FZ100 rechargeable batteries. Its alternate shutter-release button works with the included Multi-Terminal cable.

Precautions

1. The BG-S8 should be used only with compatible devices specified in this manual.
2. Use only with the batteries and battery holders recommended in this manual.
3. If you notice smoke, noise, or an unusual smell from the battery pack, discontinue use immediately. Remove the batteries and take the device to a Vello authorized reseller.

4. The battery level may not display properly if batteries are installed before mounting the grip.

5. Remove batteries from the grip when not in use.

6. Do not attempt to disassemble.

Attaching the Battery Grip

1. Ensure that the camera power is turned off.

1. Open the camera's battery chamber door, and insert the battery pack adapter.

1. Open the camera's connection plate cover, and close the battery chamber door. This will leave the battery pack adapter's contacts exposed.

1. Align the camera's tripod socket with the BG-S8's mounting screw, and insert the camera's connection plate cover into the recess.

1. Rotate the thumbwheel counterclockwise until it's firmly tightened.

1. Connect the shutter release cable from the 2.5 mm socket on the battery grip to the Multi-Terminal port on the camera body.

Inserting the Batteries

1. Lift and rotate the battery tray's lock counterclockwise and remove the tray from the grip.

1. Align the contacts of the first battery with slot 1, and slide the battery in and down until it clicks. Repeat this step for the second battery.

1. Insert and lock the battery tray inside the battery grip.

1. Turn on your camera and switch the battery grip's power switch to the ON position.

Note: When removing the grip, turn off the grip and camera power, and remove the batteries.
