Frequently Asked Questions - SS-306 DAP-Audio

How do I connect the speaker to a 100V line?
Connect the black wire to the COM terminal and the red wire to one of the three power taps (7.5W, 15W, or 30W) depending on your desired output. Ensure the amplifier is turned off during connection.
What is the maximum power this speaker can handle?
The speaker can handle up to 30W continuous power. It offers three selectable power taps: 7.5W, 15W, and 30W.
Can I install this speaker outdoors?
Yes, the speaker has an IP55 rating, making it resistant to dust and water jets. However, it should not be submerged or exposed to heavy rain. It is suitable for covered outdoor areas.
How do I clean the speaker?
Clean the speaker only with a dry cloth. Do not use water or cleaning solvents, as they may damage the ABS material or internal components.
What should I do if there is no sound?
First, check all cable connections and ensure the amplifier is powered on. If the problem persists, verify that the correct power tap is selected and that the speaker wires are not damaged. Refer to the troubleshooting section in the manual for further steps.
How do I select the correct power tap?
Choose the power tap (7.5W, 15W, or 30W) based on the desired volume and the amplifier's output capability. Connect the red wire to the corresponding terminal. The black wire always connects to COM.
What type of cable should I use?
Use appropriate gauge speaker wire for 100V systems, typically 2-core stranded cable. For long runs, use a thicker gauge to avoid signal loss. Ensure correct polarity throughout the system.
Can I paint the speaker?
The speaker is factory-finished in white ABS. Painting is possible but may affect performance if paint enters the grille or affects the cone. If you must paint, mask the driver and use non-conductive paint.
Does the speaker require a separate amplifier?
Yes, the speaker is passive and requires a 100V line amplifier. It is not a self-powered unit. Connect it to a compatible 100V amplifier output.
Is the speaker suitable for use in bathrooms or high humidity?
With IP55 rating, it can withstand humidity and water splashes, making it suitable for bathrooms, saunas, or covered patios. However, avoid direct water spray or immersion.

Troubleshooting

No Sound

Always check if all the cables and cords are connected. Always turn off power to the area before checking the wires, to prevent electric shock.

If everything works properly and there is still no sound, revisit the manufacturer's instructions to make sure they were followed during installation. If everything was installed correctly and there is still no sound, you may want to consider bringing in a professional to take a look at your speakers.

Low and Poor Sound

If your ceiling speakers are working but the sound volume coming from them is low, check the speakers to see if they are well insulated. If the speakers were installed and there was no insulation around or behind them, you are going to want to add some. Adding insulation will help to buffer the sound and stop it from going up into your attic. It will also make sure that the speakers are secure in the holes, and won't vibrate.

Uneven Sound

If you put the insulation in unevenly, then this could result in uneven sound. Make sure to put in the same amount of insulation around each speaker. If some speakers are packed tightly, while others just have the insulation loosely around them, then you will end up with different levels of sound absorption.

Sound Warping

If the sound coming out of your ceiling speakers is loud enough, but seems to be warped or distorted, your treble or bass levels may need to be adjusted.

If there are not many pieces of furniture in the room and the floor has no carpet or rug, then you will most likely have to set your treble to minus. With very little in the room to absorb the sound, too much treble can make the sound bounce off of fixtures in the room, making it tinny sounding.

With the bass, if the speakers are too close to a wall and are not aimed properly, then you will need to set the bass to minus, to stop the low tones from bouncing off of the walls or large pieces of furniture.
