How do I enable 4K HDR output on my Panasonic DMP-UB200?

Connect the player to a 4K HDR-capable TV using a High Speed HDMI cable (18 Gbps). Go to Setup > Player Settings > HDMI. Set Resolution to 'Auto' or '4K', and 4K60p Output to '4K/60p(4:4:4)' or '4K/60p(4:2:0)'. Ensure HDR Output and HLG/PQ Conversion are set to 'Auto'. If your TV supports HDR, the player will output HDR automatically.

How do I update the firmware on the DMP-UB200?

Connect the player to the Internet via wired or wireless LAN. When a new firmware is available, a message will appear on screen. Select 'Yes' to download and install. Alternatively, download the latest firmware from the Panasonic support website to a USB drive, insert it into the player, and follow the on-screen instructions. Do not disconnect power during the update.

Does the DMP-UB200 support 3D Blu-ray playback?

What should I do if the remote control stops working?

First, replace the batteries (2 x AA) and ensure there’s no obstruction between the remote and the player. If the issue persists, check the remote control code: on the player, press any remote button and note the number displayed. Press and hold OK and that number for 5 seconds to resync. You can also reset the unit by holding POWER on the main unit for 3 seconds.

How do I reset the DMP-UB200 to factory defaults?

Go to HOME > Setup > Player Settings > System > Restore Default Settings and select 'Yes'. This resets most settings but retains network, ratings, and language settings. For a full factory reset including all settings, while the unit is on, press and hold OK, Yellow, and Blue buttons on the remote for 5 seconds, then repeatedly press ▶ until '08 FIN' appears, then hold OK for 5 seconds.

Does the player support Dolby Atmos or DTS:X?

Yes, the DMP-UB200 can output Dolby Atmos and DTS:X bitstream via HDMI to a compatible AV receiver. In Setup > Player Settings > Audio > Digital Audio Output, set Dolby D/Dolby D+/Dolby TrueHD to 'Bitstream' and DTS/DTS-HD to 'Bitstream'. Also set BD-Video Secondary Audio to 'Off'.

Can I stream content from my PC or NAS to the player?

Yes, via the Home Network feature. Ensure your PC/NAS is on the same network and has DLNA server software (e.g., Windows Media Player). On the player, press HOME, select Home Network > Network Contents Playback, choose your server, and browse files. Supported formats include MKV, MP4, JPEG, MP3, etc.

How should I clean the lens of the Blu-ray player?

Use a lens cleaner disc (not supplied) specifically designed for Blu-ray/DVD players. Insert the disc and follow the instructions. For the exterior, wipe with a soft dry cloth. Do not use alcohol, thinner, or abrasive cleaners.

To enjoy Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc featured with High Dynamic Range (HDR)

If you see a message about High Dynamic Range (HDR) compatible issue while an Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc is played back, please check your TV settings as follows.

An example of the message: "This player is not connected to a High Dynamic Range (HDR) compatible TV."

1) If you are using a Panasonic TV compatible with 4K and High Dynamic Range (HDR) released in 2015 or 2016, please check your TV settings as follows.

- Switch the TV to the HDMI input.

- Press "MENU" button of your TV remote control

- Select "HDMI HDR setting" in "Setup"

- Select "On" in "HDMI HDR setting"

2) If you use a TV not from Panasonic, compatible with 4K and High Dynamic Range (HDR), please refer to the operating instructions of the TV.

3) When you play a High Dynamic Range (HDR) disc on a TV without High Dynamic Range (HDR) capability, the disc can be played back (in non-HDR quality) even if the message appears.

Finalize

Any DVD-R/RW/R DL, +R/+RW/+R DL and CD-R/RW that are recorded by a recorder need to be finalized by the recorder to play on this unit. Please refer to the recorder's owner's manuals.

BD-Video

This unit supports high bit rate audio (Dolby® Digital Plus, Dolby® TrueHD, DTS-HD High Resolution Audio™ and DTS-HD Master Audio™) adopted in BD-Video.

3D

3D videos and 3D still pictures can be played back when this unit is connected to a 3D compatible TV using a High Speed HDMI Cable.

Music CD

• Operation and sound quality of CDs that do not comply with CD-DA specifications (copy control CDs, etc.) cannot be guaranteed to work.
• The digital audio content side of a DualDisc does not meet the technical specifications of the Compact Disc Digital Audio (CD-DA) format so playback may not be possible.

USB device

• Connect a USB device while the Home screen is displayed.
• This unit does not guarantee connection with all USB devices.
• This unit does not support USB device charging.
• FAT12, FAT16, FAT32, and NTFS file systems are supported.
• The USB port on the front of the unit supports USB 2.0 High Speed and the USB port on the rear of the unit supports USB 3.0 Super-Speed.
• The USB port on the rear of the unit supports an HDD formatted in FAT32 and NTFS. If the HDD is not recognized, the power to the HDD may not be supplied. Supply power from an external source.
• It is not possible to use two USB devices simultaneously. (=> 30)
• For playback of 4K videos stored on a USB device, use USB 3.0 port on rear of the unit and USB device conforming to USB 3.0.

• It may not be possible to play the above media in some cases due to the type of media, the condition of the recording, the recording method, and how the files were created.
• The producers of the disc can control how discs are played, so you may not always be able to control play as described in this Owner's Manual. Read the disc's instructions carefully.

You can operate the TV using the unit's remote control.

1 Input the 2-digit code (⇒ 36) while pressing [☐] of TV operation button on the remote control.

2 Test by turning on the television.

- If your television brand has more than one code listed, select the one that allows correct operation.

CAUTION

Do not place objects in front of the unit. The disc tray may collide with objects when it is opened, and this may cause malfunction.

- When inserting a media item, ensure that it is facing the correct way, which is the right side facing up.

- If you connect a Panasonic product with a USB connection cable, the setup screen may be displayed on the connected equipment. For details, refer to the instructions for the connected equipment.

Connecting to a TV

4K images can be played back when this unit is connected to a 4K compatible TV.

• Before making any connections, please disconnect all the units from AC power. (Connect the AC power supply cord after making all connections.)
• Use High Speed HDMI cables. Non-HDMI-compliant cables cannot be utilized.
• This unit consumes a small amount of AC power (=> 34) even when turned off in standby mode. For the purpose of energy conservation, the unit should be disconnected if you will not be using it for an extended period of time.

■ Enjoying 4K output

• To enjoy images in 4K/60p, you need an HDMI cable that supports 18 Gbps. When outputting 1080p or 24p (4K) signal, please use HDMI cables 5.0 meters (16.4 ft.) or less. It is recommended that you use Panasonic's HDMI cable.
• If you connect this unit to a 4K-compatible TV and perform “Easy Setting”, 4K/60p will be automatically selected. (⇒ 13, 28)
• To view Ultra HD Blu-ray content in 4K/HDR format, connect to the HDMI terminal of a device that supports HDCP2.2, 4K/60p (4:4:4), and HDR signals that meet Ultra HD Blu-ray standards.

- About ARC:

When using the TV or amplifier/receiver that does not have the indication of “(ARC)” (non-ARC-compatible) on the HDMI terminal, the amplifier/receiver and TV must also be connected using an optical digital cable or coaxial cable in order to enjoy the TV’s sound through the amplifier/receiver.

Connecting an amplifier to a 4K-compatible TV

3D or 4K images can be played back when this unit is connected to a 3D or 4K compatible TV.

• This connection only supports up to 5.1ch. - To connect a TV and amplifier with an HDMI cable, connecting terminals on both the TV and amplifier must be ARC-compatible. (⇒ above, "About ARC")

Wireless LAN connection

This unit has built-in wireless LAN and can be connected to a wireless router.

• For additional information about this unit, refer to http://shop.panasonic.com/support
• The unit is not compatible with public wireless LAN services. • See page 3 for the precautions of wireless LAN connection.

LAN cable connection

• Use category 5 or above straight LAN cables (STP) when connecting to peripheral devices.
• Inserting any cable other than a LAN cable in the LAN port can damage the unit.

Settings

The following settings can be performed anytime in the Setup menu. (See pages 26, 28)

Easy Setting

After connecting your new player for the first time and pressing [⏻], the basic settings screen will appear.

Preparation

Turn on the TV and select the appropriate video input.

1 Press [⏻].

Setup screen appears.

2 Follow the on-screen instructions to continue with the settings.

(e.g., "Quick Start")

- Certain recent models of Panasonic TVs (VIERA) may automatically apply their language setting to this unit.

■ When connected to a 4K/60p-compatible TV

When connected to a 4K/60p-compatible TV, you can set the video output format.

Follow the on-screen instructions to set the format.

- To reconnect this unit to a 4K/60p-compatible TV after connecting this unit to a 2K-compatible TV and completing "Easy Setting", set "4K60p Output" to "4K/60p(4:4:4)" or "4K/60p(4:2:0)". (⇒ 24)

Easy Network Setting

After completing "Easy Setting", you can perform "Easy Network Setting".

Follow the on-screen instructions to establish your connection settings.

Select "Wired" or "Wireless" and press [OK].

■ About the wireless connection

To obtain your network name (SSID*1) and encryption key (password).

The default settings may be printed on the router. If the SSID and password have been changed, consult the person responsible for setting up your network.

If your SSID is not displayed:

Search again by pressing the red button on the remote control.

Stealth SSIDs will not be displayed; in this case, enter manually in the following order.

1 To display the SSID input screen:

2 Enter your SSID.

If the wireless router supports the PUSH button method ^*2:

You can connect to and configure the security settings of your wireless LAN device with ease by pressing the Link button on the router.

If your wireless network is encrypted:

Enter your encryption key (password).

- You can switch between capital and lower case letters by pressing the "Shift" key.

• Refer to the owner's manuals of the hub or router. - Do not use this unit to connect to any wireless network for which you do not have usage rights. Using these networks may be regarded as illegal access. - If you have trouble getting online on your PC after performing network settings on this unit, perform the network settings on your PC. - Please be aware that connecting to a network without encryption may result in the leaking of data such as personal or secret information.

1 An SSID (Service Set IDentification) is a name used by wireless LAN to identify a particular network. Transmission is possible if the SSID matches for both devices.

2 The PUSH button method is a connection method which allows you to set encryption for a wireless LAN connection with ease.

You can connect to a wireless LAN network by pressing a certain button on the wireless access point [Link button, WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup™) button, etc.].

Firmware updates

This unit is capable of checking the firmware automatically when connected to the Internet via a broadband connection. 3

When a new firmware version is available, the following message is displayed.

Select "Yes" to start downloading the firmware. When the firmware update starts after the downloading is finished, a black screen is displayed and the POWER LED flashes rapidly.

You cannot operate the unit until the update is complete. Don't remove the AC power supply cord during the update. Removing the AC power supply cord while the update is in progress may damage the unit.

After the firmware is installed, unit will restart and the following screen will be displayed.

- You can also download the latest firmware from the following website and store it to a USB device to update the firmware.

When the update is complete the POWER LED will stop rapid flashings and start flashing in a repeating pattern of three flashes. Turn off and on the unit. (⇒ 33)

• DISCS CONTINUE TO ROTATE WHILE MENUS ARE DISPLAYED. Press [■STOP] when you have finished playback to protect the unit's motor, your TV screen, and so on.
• When the following conditions are met, still pictures are played back in 4K regardless of the image quality.
• The unit is connected to a 4K compatible TV.
• "Resolution" is set to "Auto" or "4K" (see page 24).
• This unit cannot output 4K images when playing back in 3D.
• It is not possible to play back AVCHD and MPEG2 videos that have been dragged and dropped or copied and pasted to the media.
• To enjoy BD-Video that supports Dolby Atmos or DTS:X™ (see page 25).

Operations during playback

Some operations may not work depending on the media and contents.

Stop

Press [■STOP].

The stopping point is memorized.

Resume play function

Press [▶PLAY] to restart from this point.

- The point is cleared if the media is removed.

- On BD-Video discs including BD-J, the resume play function does not work.

Pause

Press [IPAUSE].

- Press [■■PAUSE] again or [▶ PLAY] to restart play.

Search/Slow motion

Search

While playing, press [SEARCH◀◀] or [SEARCH▶▶].

- Ultra HD Blu-ray, MKV, MP4 and MPEG2: Audio is not heard. (When "Voice Guidance Setting" is set to "On", audio is not heard regardless of the media.)

Slow motion

While paused, press [SEARCH◀◀] or [SEARCH▶▶].

• BD-Video and AVCHD: [SEARCH▶▶] only.
• MKV, MP4 and MPEG2: Not effective.

The speed increases up to 5 steps.

• Music, MP3, etc.: The speed is fixed to a single step.
• Press [▶PLAY] to revert to normal playback speed.

While playing or paused, press [◀◀] or [▶▶].

You can enjoy the playback of Ultra HD Blu-ray discs with this unit.

Preparation

- For 4K/HDR viewing, connect to a device and terminals that support HDCP2.2*1, 4K/60p (4:4:4) and HDR signals that meet Ultra HD Blu-ray standards. (⇒ 10)

Due to copyright restrictions, it may not be possible to play back certain discs unless this unit is connected to the Internet.

• When connected to a device or terminal that does not support HDCP2.2*1, this unit applies Dynamic Range Conversion*2 to HDR signals to output them in 2K resolution. In addition, depending on the disc, it may not be possible to perform playback correctly.
• When connected to a device or terminal that supports 4K/60p (4:2:0/8 bit) and lower, this unit plays back 60p content by applying Dynamic Range Conversion *2 to its HDR signals to output them.
• When connected to a device or terminal that does not support 4K resolution, this unit applies Dynamic Range Conversion*2 to HDR signals to output them in 2K resolution.
• When connected to a device or terminal that does not support HDR, this unit applies Dynamic Range Conversion*2 to HDR signals to output them. In addition, depending on the disc, it may not be possible to output content in 2K resolution or perform playback correctly.

*1 HDCP is a technology designed to prevent illegal copying. "2.2" represents a version.

*2 Dynamic Range Conversion is a function that converts HDR video signals into video signals suited to TVs that do not support HDR input.

Preparation

Connect this unit to a 3D compatible TV. (⇒ 10)

• Perform the necessary preparations for the TV.
• Play back following the instructions displayed on the screen.
• 3D Settings (⇒ 23, 26)

• Please refrain from viewing 3D images if you do not feel well or are experiencing visual fatigue. In the event that you experience dizziness, nausea, or other discomfort while viewing 3D images, discontinue use and rest your eyes.
• 3D video might not output the way it is set in "Resolution" and "24p Output" (⇒ 24).
• When playing back 3D photos from "Photos" screen, select from the "3D" list. (Still pictures in "2D" are played back in 2D.) If "2D" and "3D" indications are not displayed, press the red button on the remote control to switch the view of playback contents.

Enjoying BD-Live

With "BD-Live" discs, you can enjoy bonus contents that use Internet access.

For this BD-Live function, connection of a USB device is necessary along with Internet connection.

1 Perform network connection and settings. (⇒ 12, 13) 2 Connect a USB device with 1 GB or more free space.

- The USB device is used as the local storage.

3 Insert the disc.

■ Deleting data on the USB device

Select "BD-Video Data Erase" in the HOME menu (⇒ 15) and press [OK].

• The usable functions and the operating method may vary with each disc, please refer to the instructions on the disc and/or visit their website.
• "BD-Live Internet Access" may need to be changed for certain discs. (=> 27)

Slideshow

Play a slideshow of photos and adjust various settings during the playback.

1 Insert the media. 2 Select "View Photos". 3 Select an item and press the green button.

The following items can be set.

Start Slideshow	Start the slideshow. You can display still pictures in the selected folder one by one at a constant interval.
Display Interval	Change the display interval.
Transition Effect	Select the effect when sliding pictures.
Repeat Play	Set whether to repeat the slideshow.
Soundtrack	Set whether to play background music.• FLAC and MP3, etc., on the USB device can be played back during the slideshow of JPEG on the USB device.
Soundtrack Folder	Select the folder from which the music files are played.
Shuffle BGM	Background music is played in random order.

• Still pictures displayed as "X" cannot be displayed as thumbnail with this unit.
• You cannot play back AAC and ALAC as background music.

Network Service (Enjoying NETFLIX, etc.)

Network Service allows you to access some specific websites supported by Panasonic, and enjoy Internet contents such as photos, videos, etc. from Network Service home screen.

- Some services, such as NETFLIX require a registered account.

For details of your NETFLIX account, refer to NETFLIX.

- Netflix can be accessed directly by pressing [NETFLIX] button.

• In the following cases, settings are possible using the Setup menu items.
• When restricting the use of Network Service (→ 28, "Network Service Lock")
• When the audio is distorted (→ 27, "Audio Auto Gain Control")
• When wrong time is displayed (→ 27, "Time Zone", "DST")
• When using a slow Internet connection, the video may not be displayed correctly. A high speed Internet service with a speed of at least 6 Mbps is recommended.
• Be sure to update the firmware as soon as a firmware update notice is displayed on the screen. If the firmware is not updated, you may not be able to use Network Service function properly. (→ 14)
• Network Service Home Screen is subject to change without notice.
• The services through Network Service are operated by their respective service providers, and service may be discontinued either temporarily or permanently without notice. Therefore, Panasonic will make no warranty for the content or the continuity of the services.
• Some features of websites or content of the service may not be available.
• Some content may be inappropriate for viewers.
• Some content may only be available for specific countries and may be presented in specific languages.

Home Network feature

Before using the following features, be sure to configure the connected equipment on your Home Network.

Playing back contents on the Network Contents server

You can share photos, videos and music stored in the Network Contents server ^*1 [PC, smartphone, etc.] connected to your home network.

- About support format of Network Contents ( ⇒ 35)

1 Press [HOME]. 2 Select "Home Network" and press [OK]. 3 Select "Network Contents Playback" and press [OK].

• The list can be updated by pressing the green button on the remote control.
• The selected equipment can be deleted from the list by pressing the red button on the remote control.
• The connection method can be switched to Direct Access ^*2 by pressing the yellow button on the remote control.

4 Select the equipment and press [OK]. 5 Select the item to play and press [OK].

- You may be able to use convenient functions depending on the content by pressing [OPTION].

To exit from Home Network

Press [HOME].

Using the Digital Media Controller

You can use a smartphone or tablet as the Digital Media Controller (DMC) to playback contents from Network Contents server*1 on the Renderer (this unit).

Possible applications:

1 Press [HOME]. 2 Select "Home Network" and press [OK]. 3 Select "Media Renderer" and press [OK]. 4 Select "Home Network" or "Direct Access"*2 and press [OK], then follow the indications on the screen. 5 Operate the DMC compatible devices.

To exit from Media Renderer screen, press [HOME].

• Direct Access *2 connection while using Home Network feature is only temporary, and the network connection method returns to the original setting when exiting.
• Depending on the device or connection environment, the data transfer rate may decrease.
• Depending on the contents and the connected equipment, playback may not be possible.
• Items displayed in gray on the display cannot be played back by this unit.

*1 DLNA compatible server, etc. *2 Direct Access is a function which allows you to wirelessly and directly connect wireless LAN-equipped devices to each other without a wireless router in between. You can connect devices such as those that support Wi-Fi Direct®. *3 DMC compatible software should be installed.

VIERA Link

What is VIERA Link?

VIERA Link is a convenient function which will link the operations of this unit and a Panasonic TV (VIERA) or other device under "VIERA Link".

You can use this function by connecting the equipment with an HDMI cable. See the owner's manuals for connected equipment for operational details.

Automatic input switching Power on link

When the following operations are performed, the input channel of the TV will be automatically switched and the screen of this unit will be displayed.

If this unit is on and the TV is off, the TV automatically turns on.

- When play starts on the unit

- When you display a menu, such as the HOME menu or Setup menu

Power off link

When you set the TV to standby mode, this unit is also automatically set to standby mode.

Playing music continuously even after turning off the TV

When the unit is connected to a Panasonic TV (VIERA) that supports VIERA Link and an amplifier/receiver supports VIERA Link.

Easy control only with VIERA remote control

Only when TV supports "VIERA Link"

By using the TV remote control, you can perform various playback operations and settings.

See the owner's manuals of the TV for more details.

• If you set "VIERA Link" to "Off", set it to "On" (⇒ 28). (The default setting is "On".)
• The buttons and functions that you can use for this unit vary depending on the TV. For details, refer to the owner's manuals of the TV.
• The operation of this unit may be interrupted when you press certain buttons on the TV remote control.
• VIERA Link, based on the control functions provided by HDMI which is an industry standard known as HDMI CEC (Consumer Electronics Control), is a unique function that we have developed and added. As such, its operation with other manufacturers' equipment that supports HDMI CEC cannot be guaranteed.
• Please refer to individual manuals for other manufacturers' equipment supporting VIERA Link function.

Option menu

A variety of playback operations and settings can be performed from this menu.

Available options differ depending on the playing contents and the condition of the unit.

Video Settings

These settings are also displayed by pressing [VIDEO SETTING].

Switch "Set 1", "Set 2" or "Standard" by using [◀, ▶].

• You can register desired settings to "Set 1" and "Set 2". Settings for BD Video playback and settings for the playback of other types of media are registered separately. (The default settings for "Set 1"/"Set 2" are the same as the settings for "Standard".)
• You cannot change the "Standard" settings.

■ Display

Select a setting suitable for your screen.

■ Picture Type

Select the picture quality mode during play.

■ Sharpness Adjustment

Adjust the sharpness of images. The greater the value is, the sharper images will be.

Noise Reduction

Reduce unnecessary noise in videos. The greater the value is, the less noise will appear.

■ Luminance/Color Adjustment

Adjust the contrast, brightness, tone curve (white/black), color saturation and hue.

■ Bandwidth Limitation

Adjust the bandwidth limitations.

■ Dynamic Range Adjustment

Set the brightness of the entire screen when outputting HDR (High Dynamic Range) video to a connected HDR-compatible TV.

■ Dynamic Range Conversion Adjustment

When this unit is connected to a TV that does not support HDR (High Dynamic Range) input, HDR video is output converting to a SDR (Standard Dynamic Range) video signal. If you set a smaller value, their contrast will be reproduced more faithfully, but the entire screen will appear darker. To increase the brightness, set a larger value.

■ Progressive

Select the method of conversion for progressive output to suit the type of material being played.

- When the content is distorted, change the settings from "Auto" to "Video".

■ Reset to Default Video Settings

Return "Video Settings" of the selected tab ("Set 1" or "Set 2") to the factory preset.

Audio Settings

■ Sound Effects*

Select the sound effect.

- Night Surround :

Enjoy a movie with powerful sound even when the volume is kept low at night. The audio is set in such a way that it can be heard easily.

■ DSD Decode Sampling Frequency

Select the settings that suit your sound quality preferences.

■ DSD LPF Setting

Select the settings that suit your sound quality preferences.

■ Dialog Enhancer*

The volume of the center channel is raised to make dialog easier to hear.

* This function is effective only when "Digital Audio Output" is set to "PCM" ( ⇒ 25).

3D Settings

■ Signal Format

Original Keep original picture format.
Side by side	3D picture format comprising of left and right screens.

■ Pop-Out Level

3D position for the Option menu or message screen, etc. can be adjusted during 3D playback.

Setup menu

Change the unit's settings if necessary. The settings remain intact even if you switch the unit to standby.

HDMI

■ Resolution

The items supported by the connected devices are indicated on the screen as “*”. When any item without “*” is selected, the images may be distorted.

- If "Auto" is selected, the best suited output resolution to the connected TV is automatically selected.

4K60p Output

This unit automatically chooses to output images in 4K*1 60p when connected to a 4K/60p compatible TV.

• This item is available only when "Resolution" is set to "Auto" and "4K".
• To connect to a TV that supports 4K/60p (4:4:4/8 bit) or 4K/60p (4:2:2/12 bit), select "4K/60p(4:4:4)". Images will not be output correctly with an HDMI cable that does not support 18 Gbps.
• To connect to a TV that supports 4K/60p (4:2:0/8 bit), select "4K/60p(4:2:0)".

24p Output

Content recorded at 24p ^*2 , such as BD-Video films, is output at 24p when played back.

• When this unit is connected to TV compatible with 4K/24p and "Resolution" is set to "Auto" or "4K", images will be output in 4K/24p.
• When this unit is connected to a TV compatible with 1080/24p and “Resolution” is set to “Auto”, “1080i” or “1080p”, images will be output in 1080/24p.
• If images output in 24p are distorted, change the setting to "Off".

■ Advanced Settings

Press [OK] to show the following settings:

Color Mode

This setting is for selecting color-space conversion of the image signal.

Deep Color Output

Set the output method to be used when this unit is connected to a TV that supports Deep Color.

HDR (High Dynamic Range) Output

Output images in HDR (High Dynamic Range) format depending on the content and connected device.

HLG / PQ Conversion

Set whether or not to convert HDR (High Dynamic Range) videos in HLG format to PQ format before outputting them when this unit is connected to a TV that supports only HDR (PQ) format.

- When "HDR (High Dynamic Range) Output" is set to "Off", this setting is disabled.

Contents Type Flag

Depending on the playback content, the TV will output adjusting to the optimal method when a TV that supports this function is connected.

¹ A high resolution image/display technology of approximately 4000 (width) × 2000 (height) pixels. ² A progressive image recorded at a rate of 24 frames per second (motion-picture film). Many BD-Video movie contents are recorded in 24 frames/second in accordance with the film materials.

Video

■ Still Mode (paused video)

Select the type of picture shown when you pause playback.

Auto	Automatically selects the type of picture shown.
Field	Select if jittering occurs when “Auto” is selected.
Frame	Select if small text or fine patterns cannot be seen clearly when “Auto” is selected.

Seamless Play

The chapter segments in playlists are played seamlessly.

- Select "On" when the picture freezes for a moment at the chapters segment in playlists.

Audio

■ Dynamic Range Compression

You can listen at low volumes but still hear dialog clearly.

(Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus and Dolby TrueHD only)

- "Auto" is effective only when playing Dolby TrueHD.

■ Digital Audio Output

Press [OK] to show the following settings:

Dolby D/Dolby D +/Dolby TrueHD

DTS/DTS-HD

Select the audio signal to output.

• Select "PCM", when the connected equipment cannot decode the respective audio format. This unit decodes the audio format and transmits to the connected equipment.

BD-Video Secondary Audio

Select whether or not to mix the primary and secondary audio (including the button click sound).

• AVCHD playback
• Playback of secondary audio (including the button click sound).

■ Audio Delay

Synchronization between picture and sound is corrected by adjusting the delay time of the audio output.

■ Voice Guidance Setting

Voice Guidance reads aloud various on-screen information, such as menu items, explanatory text, and currently-selected items. (It is also possible to display the "Voice Guidance Setting" screen by pressing and holding the [HOME] button for at least 5 seconds while the HOME menu is displayed.)

• Information is read aloud in PCM audio format. - Audio with sampling frequencies above 48 kHz are down-sampled to 48 kHz or lower. - When "On" is set, this unit operates in the manner described below. - “Dolby D/Dolby D +/Dolby TrueHD” and “DTS/DTS-HD” in “Digital Audio Output” are fixed to “PCM”. - If still unable to turn the unit off, disconnect the AC power supply cord, wait 1 minute, then reconnect the AC power supply cord.

General operation

This unit is turned off when the input for the TV is switched.

This is a normal phenomenon when using VIERA Link. For details, please read the owner's manuals for the TV.

The remote control doesn't work properly.

Change the batteries in the remote control. (⇒ 5) The remote control and this unit are using different codes.

Turn on this unit by using [⏻/l] on the main unit, and check "Remote Control □", which is displayed on the screen when you press a button on the remote control.

Press and hold [OK] and the displayed number ("☐") for more than 5 seconds.

This unit is turned off automatically.

To save on electricity, this unit is turned off automatically depending on the media if there is no button operation for about 20 minutes when not playing back (such as when paused or displaying the menu, displaying still pictures, etc.).

You have forgotten your ratings password. You want to cancel the ratings level.

The ratings level returns to the factory defaults.

① While the unit is on, press and hold [OK], the yellow button, and the blue button on the remote control at the same time for more than 5 seconds. - The POWER LED starts to flash, and "00 RET" is displayed on the screen. ② Press [▶] (right) repeatedly on the remote control until "03 VL" is displayed on the screen. ③ Press [OK].

The TV screen turns black.

In the following cases, HDMI authentication takes place and a black screen is displayed: - When "24p Output" is set to "Auto". - When the display is switched between 2D and 3D images. - When you quit the 4K playback by displaying another screen, including the HOME menu.

This unit does not recognize the USB connection correctly.

➢ Disconnect and re-connect the USB cable. If it still does not recognize the connection, turn this unit off and on again. USB devices may not be recognized by this unit when connected using the following: - a USB hub - a USB extension cable. If you connect a USB HDD to this unit, use the USB cable that is supplied with the HDD. If the USB HDD is not recognized, the power to the USB HDD may not be supplied. Supply power from an external source. If you connect a second USB device while a screen other than the Home screen is displayed, it will not be detected. Display the Home screen and reconnect the USB device you want to use.

Images from this unit do not appear on the TV screen, or they are distorted.

An incorrect resolution is selected in "Resolution". Reset the setting as follows: The connected devices are changed. Reset the setting as follows: ① While the unit is on, press and hold [OK], the yellow button, and the blue button on the remote control at the same time for more than 5 seconds. - The POWER LED starts to flash. ② Press [8] and the blue button on the remote control at the same time for more than 5 seconds. Set the item again. (⇒ 24) - When Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, and DTS-HD® audio are not output properly, select "Yes" in "Restore Default Settings" (→ 28) and make proper settings. - "4K60p Output" will be set to "Off". Make the correct setting again. (⇒ 24) When "3D BD-Video Playback" in the Setup menu is set to "Auto", images may not be output depending on the connection method. After removing the disc from this unit, select "Set before play" in the Setup menu, and select "2D Playback" in the setup screen displayed when playing 3D discs. (⇒ 26) When outputting in 4K, images may be distorted depending on the HDMI cable. Use an HDMI cable that supports 18 Gbps.

Video is not output in 4K or high-definition.

➢ Confirm that "Resolution" in the Setup menu is set properly. (⇒ 24) ➢ Confirm the HDMI cable, related connections, and the compatibility of the TV video input. To output images in 4K, connect the HDMI cable to a 4K compatible terminal of the connected device. (⇒ 10) To enjoy images in 4K/60p, set "4K60p Output" to "4K/60p(4:4:4)" or "4K/60p(4:2:0)". (⇒ 24) If "4K60p Output" is set to "4K/60p(4:4:4)", check to see if the connected HDMI cable supports 18 Gbps. (⇒ 10, 24) If 4K images are not output from the connected 4K-compatible TV, set "4K60p Output" to "4K/60p(4:4:4)" or "4K/60p(4:2:0)". (⇒ 24)

Cannot output video in HDR quality even when connected to an HDR-compatible TV.

When connected to a device or terminal that does not support HDR, this unit applies Dynamic Range Conversion to HDR signals to output them. In addition, depending on the disc, it may not be possible to output content in 2K resolution or perform playback correctly. (⇒ 17) Video may not be output from your TV in HDR quality, depending on the content. Set "HDR (High Dynamic Range) Output" and "HLG / PQ Conversion" to "Auto". (→ 24)

3D video is not output.

➢ Connect to a 3D compatible device (e.g., TV and amplifier/receiver). When a non-3D compatible amplifier/receiver is connected between this unit and a TV, 3D video is not output. (⇒ 11) ➢ Confirm the settings on this unit and the TV for 3D. (⇒ 17)

3D video is not output correctly as 2D.

Select "Set before play" in the Setup menu, and select "2D Playback" in the setup screen displayed when playing 3D discs. (⇒ 26, "3D BD-Video Playback") ➢ Discs that have recorded titles with Side by side (2 screen structure) and that can be enjoyed in 3D are played back in accordance with the settings of the TV.

No subtitles.

When progressive output is on, closed captions/subtitles cannot be displayed.

The subtitles overlap closed captions recorded on discs.

➢ Turn off the subtitles or the closed captions. (⇒ 22, 26)

Closed captions are not displayed.

➢ Confirm that the source content supports CC. ➢ Confirm the “Closed Caption Display” is set to “On”. (⇒ 22, 26) ➢ Change the “Closed Caption Type” setting. (⇒ 22, 26) ➢ Confirm the “Analog CC” or “Digital CC” is set properly (⇒ 22, 26).

Cannot play back videos on the USB device smoothly.

Use the port on the rear side of this unit, which supports USB 3.0.

A black band is displayed around the edge of the screen.

The aspect ratio of the screen is abnormal.

Adjust the aspect setting on the TV.

There is a lot of image lag when playing video.

Audio

Cannot hear the desired audio.

Check the connections and the “Digital Audio Output” settings. (See 11, 25)

There is no sound coming out.

Refer to “Connecting to an amplifier/receiver” (See 11) to check the audio output settings suited to the connections of your device.

Playback

Disc cannot be played.

The disc is dirty. (See 5) The disc is not finalized. (See 7) Depending on the Ultra HD Blu-ray disc, it may not be possible to perform playback unless this unit is connected to the Internet.

Still pictures (JPEG) do not play back normally.

The images that were edited on the PC, such as Progressive JPEG, etc., may not be played back.

I can't play back BD-Live.

Confirm that this unit is connected to the broadband Internet. (See 12) Confirm the "BD-Live Internet Access" settings. (See 27) Confirm a USB device is connected to the USB port. (See 9)

Network Messages on the screen

I can't connect to the network.

Confirm the network connection and settings. (See 12, 13, 26) There may be interference that prevents the unit from detecting your home network. Place the unit and the wireless router closer to each other. This unit may be able to detect your network name (See 14, "SSID").

Check the owner's manuals for each device and connect accordingly.

When using wireless LAN connection, video from the Network Contents server* is not played back or video frames are dropped during playback.

A higher transfer rate router such as 802.11n (2.4 GHz or 5 GHz) wireless router may solve the problem. If you use an 802.11n (2.4 GHz or 5 GHz) wireless router, it is necessary to set the encryption type to "AES". Simultaneous use with a microwave, cordless telephone, etc. at 2.4 GHz may result in connection interruptions or other problems. On the "Wireless Settings" screen (=> 26), the continuous lighting of at least 4 "Reception" indicators is the target for a stable connection. If 3 or fewer indicators are lit or the connection is being interrupted, change the position or angle of your wireless router and see if the connection state improves. If there is no improvement, connect to a wired network and perform the "Easy Network Setting" (=> 13) again.

The disc may be upside down.

This operation is not available.

Some operations are unsupported by the unit. (For example, reverse slow motion, etc.)

IP address is not set.

The "IP Address" in "IP Address/DNS Settings" is "---, ---, ---, ---". Set the "IP Address", "Subnet Mask", and "Default Gateway". (Select the automatic address acquisition if necessary.)

The current wireless network security setting is weak. It is recommended to change to a stronger security setting.

Set a stronger network security level referring to the wireless router owner's manuals.

POWER LED

When the POWER LED is flashing other than during power up or down of this unit, check the message on the TV screen. If a message is not displayed on the TV screen, determine the type of the error by checking the way the POWER LED is flashing.

The remote control and this unit are using different codes. Turn on this unit by using [∅/I] on the main unit, and check "Remote Control □" which is displayed on the screen when you press a button on the remote control. Press and hold [OK] and the displayed number ("☐") for at least 5 seconds.

The unit fails to operate properly. Press [⏻/l] on the main unit for 3 seconds to switch the unit to standby, then switch back on.

The copyright protected disc cannot be played back. One of the devices connected to this unit (TV, amplifier, etc.) does not support copyright protection. ➢ Temperature of this unit is hot and the unit switches to standby for safety reasons. Wait for about 30 minutes. Install or place this unit with good ventilation. A firmware update is in progress.

The disc in use cannot be played back since the copyright information is invalid. A firmware update using a USB device is complete.

Limited Warranty Coverage (For USA Only)

If your product does not work properly because of a defect in materials or workmanship, Panasonic Corporation of North America (referred to as "the warrantor") will, for the length of the period indicated on the chart below, which starts with the date of original purchase ("warranty period"), at its option either (a) repair your product with new or refurbished parts, (b) replace it with a new or a refurbished equivalent value product, or (c) refund your purchase price. The decision to repair, replace or refund will be made by the warrantor.

Include a letter detailing the complaint, a return address and provide a daytime phone number where you can be reached. A valid registered receipt is required under the Limited Warranty.

IF REPAIR IS NEEDED DURING THE WARRANTY PERIOD, THE PURCHASER WILL BE REQUIRED TO FURNISH A SALES RECEIPT/PROOF OF PURCHASE INDICATING DATE OF PURCHASE, AMOUNT PAID AND PLACE OF PURCHASE. CUSTOMER WILL BE CHARGED FOR THE REPAIR OF ANY UNIT RECEIVED WITHOUT SUCH PROOF OF PURCHASE.

Limited Warranty Limits and Exclusions

This warranty ONLY COVERS failures due to defects in materials or workmanship, and DOES NOT COVER normal wear and tear or cosmetic damage.
