How do I replace the lamp on the HD803?

Turn off and unplug the projector, wait for it to cool. Remove the lamp cover screw, open the cover, disconnect the lamp connector, remove the old lamp, insert the new one, reconnect, and close the cover. Reset the lamp timer in the menu.

What is the maximum projection size?

The maximum diagonal screen size is approximately 9.14 meters (30 feet), depending on distance and zoom.

Does the HD803 support 3D?

No, the HD803 does not support 3D projection.

Can I mount the projector on the ceiling?

Yes, it is ceiling mountable. Use a compatible mount and ensure secure installation. The projector has built-in ceiling mount threads.

What type of lamp does the HD803 use?

It uses a P-VIP 200W lamp. The replacement lamp kit model is SP.83R01GC01.

How do I clean the air filter?

Turn off the projector and unplug. Locate the air filter on the side, slide it out, gently vacuum or wash with mild soap and water, dry completely, and reinstall.

In normal mode it is around 30 dB, and in eco mode it drops to 28 dB.

Can I connect a laptop via VGA?

Do not put it in an enclosure, such as a bookcase or a cabinet that may keep air from flowing through its ventilation openings.

B. Do not use this projector near water or moisture. To reduce the risk of fire or electric shock, do not expose the projector to rain or moisture.

C. Do not install near any heat sources, such as radiators, heaters, stoves or other apparatus (including amplifiers) that produce heat.

1. Clean only with a dry cloth.

2. Only use attachments/accessories specified by the manufacturer.

3. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel. Servicing is required when the projector has been damaged in any way:

Please follow all warnings, precautions and maintenance as recommended in this user's guide.

Warning-

Do not look into the projector's lens when the lamp is on. The bright light may hurt your eyes.

To reduce the risk of fire or electric shock, do not expose this projector to rain or moisture.

When replacing the lamp, please allow unit to cool down, and follow all replacement instructions. See page 41.

Warning-

This projector will detect the life of the lamp itself. Please be sure to change the lamp when it shows warning messages.

Warning-

Reset the "Lamp Reset" function from the on-screen display "System | Lamp Setting" menu after replacing the lamp module (refer to page 35).

Warning-

When switching the projector off, please ensure the cooling cycle has been completed before disconnecting power. Allow 90 seconds for the projector to cool down.

Warning-

Do not use lens cap when projector is in operation.

Warning-

When the lamp is approaching to the end of its life time, the message “Replacement suggested” will show on the screen. Please contact your local reseller or service center to change the lamp as soon as possible.

When the lamp reaches the end of its life, the projector will not turn back on until the lamp module has been replaced. To replace the lamp, follow the procedures listed under "Replacing the Lamp" section on page 41.

Usage Notice

Do:

■ Turn off the product before cleaning.
■ Use a soft cloth moistened with mild detergent to clean the display housing.
■ Disconnect the power plug from AC outlet if the product is not being used for a long period of time.

Do not:

■ Block the slots and openings on the unit provided for ventilation.
■ Use abrasive cleaners, waxes or solvents to clean the unit.
■ Use under the following conditions:

• Extremely heat, cold or humidity.
• In areas susceptible to excessive dust and dirt.
• Near any appliance generating a strong magnetic field.
• In direct sunlight.

Usage Notice

Eye Safety Warnings

Avoid staring directly into the projector beam at all times.
Minimize standing facing into the beam. Keep your back to the beam as much as possible.
A stick or laser pointer is recommended to avoid the need for the user to enter the beam.
Ensure that projectors are located out of the line of sight from the screen to the audience; this ensures that, when presenters look at the audience, they do not also have to stare at the projector lamp. The best way to achieve this is by ceiling-mounting rather than floor or table-mounting the projector.
When projector is used in a classroom, adequately supervise students when they are asked to point out something on the screen.
In order to minimize the lamp power needed, use room blinds to reduce ambient light levels.

Powering On/Off the Projector

Powering On the Projector

1. Remove the lens cap. ①

2. Ensure that the power cord and signal cable are securely connected. The Power LED will turn red.

3. Turn on the lamp by pressing " ⏻ button on the control panel. ② And the Power LED will turn blue.

The startup screen will display in approximately 30 seconds. The first time you use the projector, you can select your preferred language from quick menu after the startup screen display.

1. Turn on your source (computer, notebook, video player, etc.). The projector will detect your source automatically within "Setup" menu, check that "Source Lock" has been set to "Off".

If you connected multiple sources at the same time, press the "Source" button on the control panel or direct source key on the remote control to switch between inputs.

Turn on the projector first and then select the signal sources.

Powering Off the Projector

1. Press the “ ⏻ button to turn off the projector lamp, you will see a message displayed on the projector’s screen.

Press the “💡” button again to confirm, otherwise the message will disappear after 5 seconds.

1. The cooling fans continue to operate for about 60 seconds for cooling cycle and the Power LED will flash blue. When the lights solid red, the projector has entered standby mode.

If you wish to turn the projector back on, you must wait until the projector has completed the cooling cycle and has entered standby mode. Once in standby mode, simply press "button to restart the projector.

1. Disconnect the power cord from the electrical outlet and the projector.

2. Do not turn on the projector immediately following a power off procedure.

Warning Indicator

When the “LAMP” indicator lights solid red, the projector will automatically shut itself down. Please contact your local reseller or service centre. See page 47.

When the "TEMP" indicator flashes red, it indicates the projector has overheated. The projector will automatically shut itself down.

Under normal conditions, the projector can be switched on again after it has cooled down. If the problem persists, you should contact your local dealer or our service center. See page 47.

When the "LAMP" indicator flashes red, it indicates the fan has failed. Please contact your local dealer or our service centre. See page 47.

Adjusting the Projected Image

Adjusting the Projector's Height

The projector is equipped with elevator feet for adjusting the image height.

To raise the image:

1. Press the elevator button ①.

2. Raise the image to the desired height angle ②, then release the button to lock the elevator feet into position.

3. Use screw in feet ③ to fine-tune the display angle.

To lower the image:

1. Press the elevator button.

2. Lower the image, then release the button to lock the elevator feet into position.

3. Use screw in feet ③ to fine-tune the display angle.

Installation

Adjusting the Projector's Zoom / Focus

Turn the Zoom Lever to zoom in or zoom out. To focus the image, turn the focus ring until you see a clear image. The projector will focus at distances from 4.9 to 39.4 feet (1.5 to 12.0 meters) and the projection screen size from 0.775m\~7.62m (30.5"\~300") at 16:9 mode with mechanical travel.

Control Panel & Remote Control

There are two ways for you to control the functions: Control Panel and Remote Control.

Using the Control Panel

Power	Refer to the “Power On/Off the Projector” section on pages 13-14.
Source	Press “Source” to choose DVI, RGB, Component-p, Component-i, S-Video, Composite Video, HDTV and HDMI sources.
Menu	Press “Menu” to launch the on-screen display (OSD) menu. To exit OSD, Press “Menu” again.
Four Directional Select Keys	Use ▲▼teSelect items or make adjustments to your selection.
Enter	Confirm your item selection.
Re-Sync	Automatically synchronizes the projector to the input source.

Using the Remote Control
Power	Refer to the “Power On/Off the Projector” section on pages 13-14.
Brightness	Adjust the brightness of the image.
Contrast	Control the degree of difference between the lightest and darkest parts of the picture.
Image AI	Switch the Image AI function ON/OFF. (refer to page 32-33)
Gamma	There are 10 preset gamma curves. After the initial setup and fine tuning is completed, utilize the Gamma Adjustment steps to optimize your image output.
IRIS	Refer to “IRIS” function on page 33 for more information.
Brite Mode	Increase the brightness of the image. (refer to page 35).
Image Shift	Shifts the projected image position vertically.
Edge Mask	Choose “On” to mask off a few pixels on each edge of the image to be displayed. Use Edge Mask “On” if image source happens to have encoding error near any edge of the displayable image.
Mode	Select the display mode from Cinema, Bright, TV, sRGB and User.
Menu	Press “Menu” to launch the on-screen display (OSD) menu. To exit OSD, Press “Menu” again.
Four Directional Select Keys	Use ↑↓←to select items or make adjustments to your selection.
Enter	Confirm your item selection.
Overscan	Mask off a few pixels on each edge of the image to be displayed. Use this function to adjust if image source happens to have noise near any edge of the display image.
4:3	Scale the image at a 4:3 aspect ratio.

16:9 16:9	Scale the image at a 16:9 aspect ratio.
N Native	The input source will be displayed without scaling.
L Letter-Box	Enable the viewing of the letterboxed non-anamorphically enhanced movie at full screen width. Part of the original image will be lost if the image aspect ratio is less than 2.35:1.
DVI	Press “DVI” to choose Analog and Digital Signal source from DVI connector.
HDMI1	Press “HDMI1” to choose source from HDMI1 connector.
HDMI2	Press “HDMI2” to choose source from HDMI2 connector.
YPbPr	Press “YPbPr” to choose Component video source.
Video	Press “Video” to choose Composite video source.
S-Video	Press “S-Video” to choose S-video source.

User Controls

On-screen Display Menus

The Projector has multilingual On-screen Display menus that allow you to make image adjustments and change a variety of settings. The projector will automatically detect the source.

How to operate

1. To open the OSD menu, press "Menu" on the Remote Control or Control Panel.

2 When OSD is displayed, use ▲ keys to select any item in the main menu. While making a selection on a particular page, press▶ or “Enter” key to enter sub menu.

1. Use ▲▼ keys to select the desired item and adjust the settings by ◀▼key.

2. Select the next item to be adjusted in the sub menu and adjust as described above.

3. Press "Enter" or "Menu" to confirm, and the screen will return to the main menu.

4. To exit, press "Menu" again. The OSD menu will close and the projector will automatically save the new settings.

Mode

There are many factory presets optimized for various types of images.

Cinema: For home theater.
Bright: For the brightest possible image, Use if ambient light is present.
TV: For watching analogue or digital TV images.
sRGB: For standard color.
User: Memorize user's settings.

Contrast

The contrast controls the degree of difference between the lightest and darkest parts of the picture. Adjusting the contrast changes the amount of black and white in the image.

Press the to decrease the contrast.
Press the ▶ to increase the contrast.

Brightness

Adjust the brightness of the image.

Press the ◀o darken image.
Press the ▶ to lighten the image.

Color

Adjusts a video image from black and white to fully saturated color.

Press the to decrease the amount of color in the image.
Press the ▶ to increase the amount of color in the image.

Tint

Adjusts the color balance of red and green.

Press the ◀o increase the amount of green in the image.
Press the ▶ to increase the amount of red in the image.

Sharpness

Adjusts the sharpness of the image.

Noise Reduction

The motion Adaptive Noise Reduction reduces the amount of visible noise interlaced signals. The range is from "0" to "10". (0:Off)

Gamma

This unit comes with 10 preset gamma curves. After the initial setup and fine tuning is completed, utilize the Gamma Adjustment steps to optimize your image output.

Degamma

This allows you to choose a degamma table that has been fine-tuned to bring out the best image quality for the input.

True Vivid

This adjustable item utilizes a new color-processing algorithm and enhancements to enable the picture's vividness to be significantly increased. The range is from "0" to "5".

Edge Enhance

There are 3 pre-set modes and one user mode for advanced edge enhancement filter. You can easily switch between the modes to achieve different effects. (0:Off)

B/W Extension

Black and White Extension can stretch the black and white levels to automatically increase the contrast of input image. This unit has 2

"B/W Extension" can't support when source is HDMI, analog or digital RGB via DVI port.

User Controls

Color Temp.

Adjust the color temperature. At cold temperature, the screen looks colder; at warm temperature, the screen looks warmer.

Use this function to choose your desired aspect ratio.

4:3: This format is for 4x3 input sources not enhanced for Wide-screen TV.
16:9: This format is for 16x9 input sources, like HDTV and DVD enhanced for Widescreen TV.
Native: This format displays the original image without any scaling.

LBX: This format is for non-16x9, letterbox source and for users who use external 16x9 lens to display 2.35:1 aspect ratio using full resolution.

Detail informations about LBX mode :

1. Some Letter-Box DVDs are not enhanced for 16x9 TVs. In this situation, the image will not look right when displayed in 16:9 mode.

In this situation, please try to using the 4:3 mode to view the DVD.

But if the content itself is not 4:3, it will have black bars around the image in a 16:9 display. For this kind of content, you can use LBX mode to fill the image in the 16x9 display as much as possible.

1. If you use an external 16x9 lens, this LBX mode also allows you to watch a 2.35:1 content (include Anamorphic DVD and HDTV film source) that support anamorphic wide is enhanced for 16x9 Display in a wide 2.35:1 image.

In this case, there are no black bars, the full lamp power and vertical resolution is fully utilized for maximum viewing effects.

Other than these two occasions, one should stay with 16:9 and 4:3 modes for most viewing experiences.

(*) Each I/O has different setting of "Over-scan".

(*) "Image mode-->TV" will support automatically "Overscan" with step "2" as default.

(*) "Overscan" and "Edge mask" can't work at same time.

(*) "H Image shift" only support in format "4:3" and "Native". If source is 1080i/p, "H Image shift" only support in format "4:3".

Overscan

Overscan function removes the noise in a video image. Overscan the image to remove video encoding noise on the edge of video source.

Edge Mask

Press the ◀ to reduce the size of an image.

Press the ▶ to magnify an image on the projection screen.

H Image Shift

Shifts the projected image position horizontally.

V Image Shift

Shifts the projected image position vertically.

Press the ◄ or ▶ to adjust image distortion vertically and makes a squarer image.

Language

Choose the multilingual OSD menu. Press ◀ or ▶ into the sub menu and then use the ▶ or ▶ key to select your preferred language. Press "Select (Enter)" to finalize the selection.

Input Source

Enable input sources. Press ◀ or ▶ into the next menu as below and then use ▲ or ▼ to select. Press "Select (Enter)" to finalize the selection. The projector will not search inputs that are de-selected.

Source Lock

When this function is turned off, the projector will search for other signals if the current input signal is lost. When this function is turned on, it will search for a specified connection port.

User Controls

High Altitude

Choose "On" to turn on High Altitude mode. Operates the fans at full speed continuously to allow for proper high altitude cooling of the projector.

Auto Power Off

Sets the interval of power-off of the system, if there is no signal input. (In minutes)

RGB/HDTV Source Video Source

Signal

Phase: Changes the display data frequency to match the frequency of your computer's graphic card. When you experience a vertical flickering bar, use this function to make an adjustment.
Tracking : Synchronizes the signal timing of the display with the graphics card. If you experience an unstable or flickering image, use this function to correct it.
H Position: Adjusts the horizontal position.
▶ V Position: Adjusts the vertical position.
White Level: Allow user adjust White Level when inputting S-Video or Video/CVBS signals.
Black Level : Allow user adjust Black Level when inputting S-Video or Video/CVBS signals.
Saturation : Adjusts a video image from black and white to fully saturated color. Press the ◀o decrease the amount of color in the image. Press the ▶to increase the amount of color in the image.

"Signal" don't support when source is HDMI or DVI-D.

When you select this function, the projector reverses and turns the image upside down at same time. You can project from behind a translucent screen with ceiling mounted projection.

Image AI

Image AI improves the contrast of the picture by optimizing the brightness of the lamp according to the picture content.

On: The dynamic image performance manager is active in making sure your greatest pleasure from seeing a movie dynamically

with the most dark details revealed, vivid and bright image performed all the way.

IRIS

The iris function adjusts the contrast optically by opening and closing the lens aperture. The iris can be switched between Off (Close) and On (Open).

When you press the IRIS button, the current setting appears. When pressing it again while the setting is being displayed, the setting can be changed. It takes about 6 seconds for the iris to shift between Off (0) state and On (1-16) state.

1-16: When 1-16 steps is selected, black levels of the image are reproduced with more clarity though the brightness is lowered. There are 16 step for you adjust.

0: When 0 is selected, the image becomes brighter.

Test Pattern

Displays a test pattern. There are Grid, White pattern and None.

Background

Use this feature to display a "Dark Blue", "Black", "Gray" or "Start Logo" screen when no signal is available.

12V Trigger

STD: When "STD" is selected, 12V Trigger will send 12V when projector turn on.
LBX: When 12V trigger set as "LBX" --
1. Format change to "LBX", 12V trigger port will send 12V.
2. Format is "4:3", "16:9", or "Native", 12V trigger port won't send 12V, it will be 0V.

Lamp Hour

Displays the cumulative lamp operating time.

Lamp Reminder

Choose this function to show or to hide the warning message when the changing lamp message is displayed. The message will appear up 30 hours before suggested replacement of lamp.

Brite Mode

Choose "On" to increase the brightness. Choose "Off" to return normal mode.

Lamp Reset

Reset the lamp life hour after replacing the lamp.

Troubleshooting

If you experience a problem with your projector, please refer to the following information. If a problem persists, please contact your local reseller or service center. (See page 47 for details)

Image Problems

No image appears on-screen

Ensure all the cables and power connections are correctly and securely connected as described in the “Installation” section.
▶ Ensure the pins of connectors are not crooked or broken.
Check if the projection lamp has been securely installed. Please refer to the "Replacing the lamp" section.
Make sure you have removed the lens cap and the projector is switched on.

? Partial, scrolling or incorrectly displayed image

Press "Re-Sync" on the control panel.
▶ If you are using a PC:

(*) The resolution: HDMI's 1920 x 1080 i/p and component's 1920 x 1080 i is recommended for this projector.

For Windows 95, 98, 2000, XP:

1. From the "My Computer" icon, open the "Control Panel" folder, and double click the "Display" icon.
2. Select the "Settings" tab.
3. Verify that your display resolution setting is lower than UXGA (1600 x 1200). (*)
4. Click on the "Advanced Properties" button.

If the projector is still not projecting the whole image, you will also need to change the monitor display you are using. Refer to the following steps.

1. Verify the resolution setting is lower than or equal to UXGA (1600 x 1200) resolution. (*)

(*) The resolution: HDMI's 1920 x 1080 i/p and component's 1920 x 1080 i is recommended for this projector.

1. Select the "Change" button under the "Monitor" tab.
2. Click on "Show all devices." Next, select "Standard monitor types" under the SP box; choose the resolution mode you need under the "Models" box.
3. Verify that the resolution setting of the monitor display is lower than or equal to UXGA (1600 x 1200). (*)

If you are using a Notebook:

1. First, follow the steps above to adjust resolution of the computer.
2. Press the toggle output settings. Example: [Fn]+[F4]

If you experience difficulty changing resolutions or your monitor freezes, restart all equipment including the projector.

The screen of the Notebook or PowerBook computer is not displaying your presentation

If you are using a Notebook PC:

Some Notebook PCs may deactivate their own screens when a second display device is in use. Each has a different way to be reactivated. Refer to your computer's manual for detailed information.

? Unstable or flickering image

Use "Tracking" to correct it. See page 30 for more information.
Change the monitor color setting on your computer.

? Image has vertical flickering bar

Use "Phase" to make an adjustment. See page 30 for more information.
Check and reconfigure the display mode of your graphic card to make it compatible with the projector.

? Image is out of focus

Make sure the Lens cap is removed.
Adjusts the Focus Ring on the projector lens.
Make sure the projection screen is between the required distance 4.9 to 39.4 feet (1.5 to 12.0 meters) from the projector. See page 16.

The image is stretched when displaying 16:9 DVD title

When you play anamorphic DVD or 16:9 DVD, the projector will show the best image in 16:9 format on projector side.

If you play the LBX format DVD title, please change the format as LBX in projector OSD.

If you play 4:3 format DVD title, please change the format as 4:3 in projector OSD.

If the image is still stretched, you will also need to adjust the aspect ratio by referring to the following:

Please setup the display format as 16:9 (wide) aspect ratio type on your DVD player.

? Image is too small or too large

Adjust the zoom lever on the top of the projector.
Move the projector closer to or further from the screen.
Press [4:3 4:3], [16:9 16:9], [L Letter-Box], [N Native] button on the remote control or [Menu] on the projector panel, go to "Display-->Format". Try the different settings.

? Image has slanted sides:

If possible, reposition the projector so that it is centered on the screen and below the bottom of the screen.
Use "Display-->V.Keystone" from the OSD to make an adjustment.

? Image is reversed

Select "System-->Projection" from the OSD and adjust the projection direction.

Intermission Problems

The projector stops responding to all controls

If possible, turn off the projector, then unplug the power cord and wait at least 20 seconds before reconnecting power.

Lamp burns out or makes a popping sound

When the lamp reaches its end of life, it will burn out and may make a loud popping sound. If this happens, the projector will not turn on until the lamp module has been replaced. To replace the lamp, follow the procedures in the “Replacing the Lamp” section on page 41.

Remote Control Problems

? If the remote control does not work

▶ Check the operating angle for the remote control is approximately ±22.5^ .
Make sure there are not any obstructions between the remote control and the projector. Move to within 6 m (20 ft) of the projector.
Make sure batteries are inserted correctly.
Make sure batteries are exhausted. If so, replace weak batteries in the remote control.

Replacing the lamp

The projector automatically detects the lamp life. When the lamp life is nearing the end of use, you will receive a warning message.

Warning: Lamp compartment is hot! Allow it to cool down before changing lamp!

When you see this message, please contact your local reseller or service center to change the lamp as soon as possible. Make sure the projector has been cooled down for at least 30 minutes before changing the lamp.

Warning: To reduce the risk of personal injury, do not drop the lamp module or touch the lamp bulb. The bulb may shatter and cause injury if it is dropped.

Lamp Replacing Procedure:

1. Switch off the power to the projector by pressing the Power button.
2. Allow the projector to cool down at least 30 minutes.
3. Disconnect the power cord.
4. Use a screwdriver to remove the screw from the cover.①
5. Push up and remove the cover.②
6. Remove the 2 screws from the lamp module.③
7. Pull out the lamp module. ④

To replace the lamp module, reverse the previous steps.

1. Turn on the projector and do "Lamp Reset" after the lamp module is replaced.

Ceiling Mount Installation

1. To prevent damaging your projector, please use the ceiling mount package for installation.

2. If you wish to use a third party ceiling mount kit, please ensure the screws used to attached a mount to the projector met the following specifications:

Please note that damage resulting from incorrect installation will invalidate the warranty.

Warning:

1. If you buy the ceiling mount from other company, please ensure that there is at least 10cm distance between the bottom cover of the projector and the ceiling.

2. Avoid placing the projector near sources of heat such air-conditioning units and heaters otherwise it may overheat and shut down automatically.
