Frequently Asked Questions - PM100X1K Rockford Fosgate

How do I connect my speakers to the PM100X1K?
Connect speaker wires to the output terminals ensuring positive to positive and negative to negative. Use a minimum 12-gauge wire for best performance. Refer to the manual for proper wiring diagrams.
What does the red Protect LED mean?
The red Protect LED indicates a fault condition such as a short circuit or too low impedance at the speaker connections. The amplifier will automatically shut down to prevent damage.
What is the input impedance switch for?
The 2/4 ohm input switch matches the amplifier's input impedance to your source unit's capability. Selecting 2 ohms may damage a radio that is not 2 ohm stable.
Can I use this amplifier with a factory radio?
Yes, but you may need a line output converter (LOC) to interface with the factory radio's speaker-level outputs. Set the input switch to 4 ohms unless the radio is 2 ohm stable.
What power wire gauge should I use?
Use at least 4 AWG power and ground wires for the PM100X1K. Ensure the wire is rated for the amplifier's current draw (estimated 120A). Fuse the power wire within 18 inches of the battery.
What is the recommended speaker impedance?
The amplifier supports both 2 ohm and 4 ohm loads. For maximum power, use a 2 ohm load. Ensure your speakers are compatible.
How do I set the input sensitivity (gain)?
Start with the gain control at minimum. Play a dynamic track at 3/4 volume on your source unit. Slowly increase gain until you hear distortion, then back off slightly. Use a digital multimeter for precise setting.
Does the amplifier have a low-pass crossover?
Yes, it likely includes a built-in low-pass filter (LPF) for subwoofer use. Adjust the frequency (typically 50-250 Hz) to blend with your speakers.
Can I bridge two channels?
No, this is a mono amplifier with a single channel. Bridging is not applicable. For dual subwoofers, wire them in parallel or series to achieve the desired impedance.
What should I do if the amplifier overheats?
Ensure the amplifier is mounted in a well-ventilated area with at least 1 inch of clearance around the heatsink. If overheating persists, reduce the gain or check for a lower impedance load than recommended.

Amplifier Quick Setup

LED - Power / Protect

Power LED illuminates blue when the unit is turned on.

Protect LED illuminates red if a short circuit or to low of an impedance is detected at the speaker connections. The amplifier will automatically shut down if this occurs.

PM100X1 PWR / PROTECT FREQ. Hz 60 80 100 INPUT 4Ω 2Ω Crossover - 60/80/100 Hz Selectable 12dB/Oct HP Butterworth Crossover at 60, 80, and 100 Hz.

Input - 2/4 ohm

Selectable input switch for impedance capability of the source unit (radio).

CAUTION: Selecting 2 ohm may damage the radio if it's not 2 ohm stable.

IP67 - Water Resistant The rubber switch cover needs to be installed to prevent water and dirt intrusion into the amplifier. Failure to install the covers will leave the amplifier susceptible to damage from moisture and dirt. PM100X1 PWR / PROTECT FREQ. Hz 60 80 100 INPUT 4Ω 2Ω
