Frequently Asked Questions - 73BH Alcon

How do I adjust the volume on my Alcon 73BH telephone?
Use the volume control buttons on the side of the handset or base. During a call, press the up arrow to increase earpiece volume or the down arrow to decrease. For ringer volume, adjust when the phone is idle using the same buttons.
Can I store contacts in the phonebook?
Yes, the Alcon 73BH can store up to 50 names and numbers. To store a contact, press MEM, enter the number, press MEM again, then enter the name using the keypad. Press SAVE to confirm.
How do I use the speakerphone feature?
During a call, press the SPEAKER button on the base. The speakerphone will activate, allowing hands-free conversation. To return to handset mode, lift the handset or press SPEAKER again.
Why is my phone not ringing?
Check if the ringer switch on the base is set to ON. Also ensure the ringer volume is not turned down. If the line cord is loose or damaged, it may prevent ringing. Try connecting the phone to another wall jack to isolate the issue.
How do I view missed calls?
Press the CALL LIST button on the base. The display will show the call log entries. Use the arrow keys to scroll through missed, received, and dialed calls. Press DELETE to remove an entry.
Can I mount the Alcon 73BH on a wall?
Yes, the base has wall-mounting slots. Remove the handset cradle tab and rotate it 180 degrees (if applicable). Secure the base to wall screws (not included) and snap the handset into place. Refer to the manual for detailed instructions.
How do I change the ringtone?
Press the MENU button, navigate to RINGER SETTINGS using the arrow keys, then select RINGTONE. Choose from 8 available tones and press SAVE to confirm. You can also adjust the ringer volume from this menu.
What should I do if the display shows 'Line in Use'?
This indicates that another device on the same line is off the hook. Check if an extension phone is in use or if the line is engaged. If no other phone is active, disconnect the line cord and reconnect after 30 seconds. If the problem persists, contact your telephone service provider.
How do I set a pause in a number for PBX access?
While entering a phone number, press the PAUSE button (often labeled P) to insert a 2-second pause. This is useful when dialing an outside line prefix (e.g., '9') before the number. You can store such numbers in the phonebook with the pause included.
Is the Alcon 73BH hearing aid compatible?
Yes, this telephone is Hearing Aid Compatible (HAC) and meets FCC standards. It produces minimal radio frequency interference, allowing hearing aids in 'T' (telecoil) mode to couple with the handset for clearer audio.

  2. Fix the cable securely using cable clamps and run the cable to the base station unit, then connect it to back.

Note: The coaxial cable distance can be longer than the 20M available (provided you use the same or similar specification of cable), but the recommended length is 30M or less (the less length the better.).

  1. When securing the coaxial cable, we recommend you turn the coaxial cable once to make a small loop (about 15 to 25 ~cm in diameter) near the antenna support to prevent excessive load from the cable on the antenna connection and to protect the coaxial cable and antenna connection from being damaged when accidentally pulled. See illustration for more details.

◆ TECHNICAL INFORMATION

This cordless telephone uses radio frequencies to allow mobility. Take note of the following points which could affect operation of your system.

1. NOISE

Electrical pulse noise is present in most homes at one time or another. This is most intense during electrical storms. Certain kinds of electrical equipment such as light dimmers, fluorescent bulbs, motors, fans, etc., also generate these noise pulses. Because radio frequencies are susceptible to these, on occasion, you may hear them in your handset. In general, they are a minor annoyance and should not be interpreted as a defect in your system.

2. RANGE

The effective range between the base unit and handsets will vary according to the topography and the environment. High frequencies will have shorter ranges in valleys and around concrete walls and metal objects. It is important to place the base unit antenna as high as possible for maximum performance.

3. INTERFERENCE

Electronic circuits activate a relay to connect the cordless telephone to your telephone line. These electronic circuits operate in the radio frequency spectrum. While several protection circuits are used to prevent unwanted signals, there may be periods when these unwanted signals enter the base unit. You may hear clicks or the relay may activate while you are not using the cordless handset. If this starts occurring frequently, it can be minimized or eliminated by lowering the height of the base unit antenna or relocating the base unit.
